I’ve both Tesla and Merc, Tesla is 10x superior and only one which has amazing FSD capacity which no auto company can imagine..waymo has lidar but not scalable and it’s geo fenced …btw lidar doesn’t work in bad weather and rain..
Mercedes and most other car manufacturers have the capability to make the same technology as Tesla but they hold back on this technology to earn bigger profits and play the long term game. Exact reason why Apple waited years before making borderless phones while Samsung was making them much earlier.
As a computer vision engineer, I have to respectfully disagree with your guest, Sabeer Bhatia. LiDAR tends to be noisy and slow. Depth perception can be effectively achieved using multiple cameras-this is the principle behind all AR devices. In fact, depth can even be perceived with a monochromatic camera. Just wanted to clarify this point.

The Tesla comments I disagree with - Mercedes lidar based auto pilot only works on highways at less than 40 mph - which is useless. The WhatsApp comments are also a bit off when you look at relative data. ~30% of usa uses WhatsApp while ~36% of India uses WhatsApp. Smart guy for being first to market in free email but that’s about it.
