Thank you for introducing the Sufi heritage of Tunisia to the rest of the world. It makes me think about the fact that the most iconic Tunisian song with an international fame is called "Sidi Mansour". It's originally an old folk song dedicated to the Tunisian Sufi saint Sidi Mansour, whose name was Mansour Ghulam, and lived prior to the 15th century. He was a native of the Tunisian city of Sfax, where his tomb is. Numerous variants of the song exist with similar lyrics dating back hundreds of years. I'm tunisian and i was unaware, or dismissive of the connection btw our saints and sufism. I guess there s a general disdain in modern times for such things that are considered superstious from the rational poeple (as was my case) , or mainly hostility from the religious poeple who consider such worship of saints blasphemous (in opposition to the worship of one true god). The Hadra, though, has different reception (in my perception) than the saints themselves and their zawia.. I guess that made it possible for me to respect our Hadra patrimoine while also disregarding the saints tradition. I was unaware they were erudit teachers before they were sanctified by the masses (again that elitist sentiment rears its head).. I expected the cause of their elevation to be some supernatural none sense attributed to these poeple.. I bet there s also that, poeple visit these saints to get blessings after all
Thank you. I'd very much welcome a similar video about the city of Alexandria which, a meeting place of religions, rituals and spiritual practices (Gnostics, Neoplatonism, early Christians, Egyptian rites, sufism, Jewish communities). Never been there but read a lot about the history of the city.
What a magnificent piece of art (this mini documentary). Love it fully. Indeed, after watching your video multiple times, I feel like my ''Iman'' increased. ❤️
Great video as always. I'm glad you got to visit Tunisia and shown something other than its tourist traps, very beautiful landscapes and spiritual resonance. You should come to Algeria next time, it also has, I'm sure you know, a rich tradition of sufism. You can visit the mausoleum of Abu Madyan el ghawth in Tlemcen and many other places. You'll be the most welcome !
Sufism despite its Islamic appearance, violates fundamental Islamic beliefs. Sufis believe in the powers of the "righteous" people to: 1- Grant pardon and forgiveness to sinners. 2- Fulfilling seekers' requests for wealth, children, or any other request seekers may have. 3- Believing that the dead righteous ones can hear, respond, and fulfill seekers' requests. Thus the rise of graves-worshipers / tomb-worshipers. By doing so, Sufis impose devine attributes (which mainstream Islam considers them exclusive attributes of Allah) to humans. In Islam followers believe that: 1- only Allah giveth and taketh. 2- only Allah has the right and power to forgive / punish. 3- all humans are created equal and none of them can posess attributes exclusive to Allah. Thus all humans are created to worship Allah and no one else or with Allah. Accordingly, there are no mediators in Islam between humans and Allah. Humans can ask Allah directly whatever they may need. 4- only Allah judges who goes to hell and who goes to heaven, each according to his/her deeds. 5- for that reason, Allah gave us the road map that must be followed (to earn salvation) in the form of: 1- Quran, the word of Allah, and 2- Sunna, the prophet's tradition and teachings. Any other description of Sufism is a decieving "Halo" aimed at the gullible.
I believe Sufism are one of the sole reason behind corruption of the understanding of Islam by syncretising many elements of pantheism and polytheism from other beliefs
This was 👏Perfect. I wasn't watching just a video. It was like a journey to a different space and time and I felt something very special that I couldn't express. Wonderful 👏
I lived in Tunis briefly 7 years ago. Unfortunately I had to leave early, because the combination of food and climate made my European bowels go insane 😂, but I will never forget the weird, specific atmosphere of Tunis. I lived close to Sidi Bou Said and visited it every second day, I was constantly drawn into it. And to the ruins of Carthage. There is something meditative about this area.
I'm a Tunisian and I've been following you for a few years now but I've never expected you to make an entire video about sufism in my country so thank you. Tunisia is very attached to sufi traditions and and many of the things that we do or that you see in the country are linked in some way or another to it so thank you for showcasing that and I wish that you would come back again and visit other saints in other parts of Tunisia and know their stories because each city has a patron saint and many other saints as well.

Of course there are patron saints in each, in Monastir it's 'El Mezri' but I encourage you to visit Sidi belhassen mentioned in the video, sidi Bou said (the city was named after the saint), sidi mehrez (Tunis) and sidi Sahbi (Kairouan).

Timecode 16 : I can recognise the end of "Hizbu al-Bahr", one of the most powerful incantations of Shadhiliya. Greetings from Tunis ! I discovered your channel in January. Great content, thank you very much !
this is the way of Tunisians and Zaitouna throughout history :
Concerning the tenets of belief of (Imam) al-Ash`ari, the jurisprudence of (Imam) Malik, | and the path of Junayd, the
(spiritual) traveler.
thank you for this video
The word "Hadhra" refers also to "Hudhur", which literally means "Presence".
I never thought about it that way before
Watching from Nigeria bearing Sufism path. Thank you so much 🥰
I've been following your channel for quite a while. Your videos are really informative and well researched. I'm from Tunisia, I'm glad you visited ! Hope your stay was enjoyable :D
It was very enjoyable! Thank you for having me!
While you were sitting and watching the sea, I was there with you. Thank you Filip. Peace be with you.
As a Tunisian I’m impressed with all the informations you gathered in this video about Sufism. You nailed it man, good job
Excellent video, I would certainly enjoy a visit to Tunisia to see the legacy of these figures for myself one day.
Beautiful episode, Filip. I hope someday I can visit Tunisia to go and pray in those sites 🙏🏻
Highly recomended!
Wow I've been a big fan of your work for a while as Sufi, but now you are also talking about my country, I am sending. Love and peace your way brother.
Thank you for this wonderfull document. Your calm natation added beauty to the image. I hope that my fellow Tunisian Will like and share your work messively. Hope you success in your futur documentaries.
These videos are worth million’s . I wish you could make a video on, “Buddhism in relation with Islam”.
Then I recommend Rabbi Jacobson and his Lao Tzu UA-cam video. I will teach you some Aramaic. It's the slang of Hebrew. Schlama means peace. Malkuth means heaven. Hubba means love.
So Hubba Hubba means love love?

Yeah he really should
@@vanessajoycecollett6607 okie dokie I live on N Van Ness Avenue, Hollywood. Recently
Filip, you've knocked it out of the park once again with this video. I loved the documentary style too, it has increased my desire to visit Tunisia. Incredible work!
Have experienced group zikir sessions in family gatherings in Indonesia. Would be interesting if you could make a video about Sufism in Indonesia or Southeast Asia all together. Also javinism is interesting topic.
Thank you! I am a history teacher at a Jesuit institute in Santo Domingo. I ve been to Tunisia in 1973, and still remember the perfum of the air, from the Sahara I imagined, and the call of the street vendors "digla ya digla". I liked your presentation very much. Shukran!
Wow! I can't believe you were just a few hundred meters away from my house! As someone who's been an avid viewer of your videos for years, it's a bit disappointing that I missed the chance to talk to you in person. Nonetheless, your video was fantastic, as always, and I appreciate the effort you put into producing such high-quality content. Your videos have taught me so much, including about my own culture, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from you. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to watching more of your videos! 😊
Beautiful country!
Apart from being Tunisian, this video is MAJESTIC ♡♡
Every time I watch one of your videos on Sufism I feel the desire to learn Arabic and delve into the works of these great mystics myself.
Beautiful job once again jazakallahu khayr may Allah open our hearts to islam and tasawwuf
I bet there s also that, poeple visit these saints to get blessings after all
I am so glad such vidios are made they bridge between different faith and inspiringly increase understanding of essence of other faith.
Thank you. I'd very much welcome a similar video about the city of Alexandria which, a meeting place of religions, rituals and spiritual practices (Gnostics, Neoplatonism, early Christians, Egyptian rites, sufism, Jewish communities). Never been there but read a lot about the history of the city.
Oh that would be really cool!
As a Tunisian, thank you for making such a beautiful video 🤲
What a magnificent piece of art (this mini documentary). Love it fully. Indeed, after watching your video multiple times, I feel like my ''Iman'' increased. ❤️
Great video as always. I'm glad you got to visit Tunisia and shown something other than its tourist traps, very beautiful landscapes and spiritual resonance. You should come to Algeria next time, it also has, I'm sure you know, a rich tradition of sufism. You can visit the mausoleum of Abu Madyan el ghawth in Tlemcen and many other places. You'll be the most welcome !
This guy gives so much important knowledge in Islam, I’m particularly interested in Ibn Arabi’s teachings.
I'm from tunisia and i like to say very nice video sir , so well detailed and presented stuff.
Sufism despite its Islamic appearance, violates fundamental Islamic beliefs.
Sufis believe in the powers of the "righteous" people to:
1- Grant pardon and forgiveness to sinners.
In Islam followers believe that:
1- only Allah giveth and taketh.
5- for that reason, Allah gave us the road map that must be followed (to earn salvation) in the form of:
1- Quran, the word of Allah, and
2- Sunna, the prophet's tradition and teachings.
Any other description of Sufism is a decieving "Halo" aimed at the gullible.
Thank u for your comment i see lot of my partisans in this section that clearly believe in this thus is extremely haram
There is something meditative about this area.
.😊😊
Although I'm no longer a Muslim I'm still so proud of this legacy and I hold so much respect for Muhammad and the rashidun caliphate
Thank you for the comment brother, may i ask why are you no longer a muslim? Out of respect brother Jazakhallah
Is there Sufi places in Hammamet or Monastir?
@@esmamrahorovic5904 Yes! In every city there are at least 2-3. Of course there are patron saints in each, in Monastir it's 'El Mezri' but I encourage you to visit Sidi belhassen mentioned in the video, sidi Bou said (the city was named after the saint), sidi mehrez (Tunis) and sidi Sahbi (Kairouan).
@@bevhirmilos7850 thank You for answer! Do you know the name of sufi place in Hammamet?
So grateful that places like this still exist. Thank you Filip.
Such a beautiful and interessting Video - tks a lot - love from Berlin!
Impressive and even as Tunisian citizen I learned from you and visited through your trip places I didn’t know about . I really appreciate Thank you
By the way I m a follow of chedhelia tariqua
there is a saying in tunisia, "Tunis el mahroussa", meaning the guarded tunis. as the walis guard and grace the city.
in tunisia, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of zawaya all over the country. each is protecting and gracing a city, a region, or a group of people.
Tears...thankful for this gift today. I was just there not 3 months ago!...also to be with the Sufi tradition in the land. It means a lot to see it all again.
Which tariqat did you spend time with? 😊
amazing video. i am so happy to see such a detailed video about my country's spirituality.
I listened to the video because I was on the bus. Beautiful stuff. Will watch it when I get home god willing.
Wow, I love watching this channel, and to my surprise I find a video about my country! Your research is amazing, very accurate and well informed. Keep up the great work!
I would also like to know if you've ever heard of Sufi enneagrams? They are very interesting and I would love to hear your take on them!
This video was a balm for my heart, I am very grateful to you for highlighting Syeda Manoubia (RAA) and the other female Sufi teachers. I hope to hear more about them!
Beautiful work! Thank you
Thank you!
Fascinating video!
Been in Tunisia once, but only for a day, some harbor city, 35 years ago.
I have a good friend who spend a lot of his childhood there, so it was fascinating to see your recordings and hear about it.
History of religion is pretty fascinating!
The town with the blue windows looked very beautiful!
im just patiently waiting for the alevism video
Sir, good morning! Can you do another video about Dasuqiyya Sufi order from Egypt? The master of that Sufi order was led by Shaikh Mukthar (late) a famous scientist and Engineer. And he wasused to talk about the Oneness of humanity and spiritual freedom for all. He just passed away on this 2020 Dec 9th. You can narrate him with plenty of latest informations....❤
Thank you so much Felip for connecting us, the Tunisians, to our wonderful Sufi heritage 🙏🏼 Nour ala Nour ✨✨
Thank you for helping people discover this unkown part of Tunisia.
I hope next time you come here you'd visit other cities which also have some very famous saints.
For sure, would love to come back! I was in Kairouan and al-Jam too, but only briefly.
@@LetsTalkReligion I invite you to come to Béja in the northwestern part of Tunisia, there is also Sousse, Monastir and Gabes that have a rich mystical heritage!

OMG Fillip !! Finally a video on Tunisia'a saints ! Thank you !!
Thank you Filip. Thank you for showing this side of our beautiful religion. I loved every minute of this ❤️
Tunisia didn't wait for the Islamic conquest to shine, take a look at Roman Africa Proconsularis, whether pagan or Christian.
Terence, Cyprian of Carthage, Augustin of Hippo, Tertullian and many thinkers.
Thank you very much
God bless you
I am right now in Tunisia and was looking for the foot prints of Sufi’s in this country
Your video helped me a lot
🙏
Tunisian people have such a beautiful culture. Fascinating how Sufism impacted them. Thanks for this.
Looks like I’ve got to add Tunisia to my travel bucket list!
You have so much amazing content, but this might be one of the best videos you have made.
However impressive and significant current religious culture may seem , we all know that is very unlikely to be permanent , why ?? ......wel just look at how many religions and Gods have allready dissapeared.
21:07 it isn't exclusively for women IT'S ALSO FOR CATS (was what I thought you were gonna say lol)
I'm a tunisian and thank you for your video
I used to live in La Marsa and walked to Sidi Bou Said often. It is very beautiful
There was a touring sufi troupe of 'performers' who did shows and it was very powerful- there was percussion, dhikr, flag waving and chanting etc. The audience would get involved and many people had ecstatic experiences
I'm following you for a long time and I didn't see this coming. It made me happy that you come to Tunis and. This video depicted my country in a new and a beautiful way ❤❤❤
I've been watching your videos for over a year now and I've never expected a video about my country on this channel. Huge fan of your work btw
people need to stop saying the 'fourth holiest city in Islam' because there is no such a thing. in Islam Macca, Medina and Jerusalem are the three holiest cities. no other city has any significant religious value in Islam
I am a longtime student of the larger prajnaparamita sutras, but I am very interested in the Quran and Sufism. Your videos have been very helpful to me. It's nice to see a rational, even minded fellow in such a chaotic and polarized world..continue the excellent work. PS, if you haven't read Conze's translation/compilation Larger Prajna Sutra, I highly recommend it.
This is such an outstanding video; your work really is fantastic.
It's also cool seeing a heap of appreciative Tunisians in the comments; I think that there's something really beautiful about people getting excited about the sharing of the culture and history of their environment. Thank you for your work.
Everyone should check ' al ziara tounes' if you wanna hear authentic tunisian sufi music
