      Great memories of 1966-68! And most of those 80 page giants were high quality square-bound books!

      They are absolutely wonky and cartoon-ey, a big difference from the dark and serious Batman of today. The art styles and colors are a lot of fun! Thank you for watching doctor!

    😎A haBAT MANuall for those wanting to understand the excitement and enjoyment the Silver Age produced for us , Leo. A majority of Bat fans weren't happy with a non permanently situated Gotham City costumed detective which led to $ales drops that almost led to Batman's printed cancellation. What a twist of fate that the very fun based adventures that were complained about became the style of the pop cultural phenomenon known as Batmania! I myself favor that time of traveling Batman adventures. If William Dozier had been a few years earlier in his producing the Batman TV series we would have been treated to Batwoman , Blonde Batgirl, Redhaired Vicki Vale , BatMite , Bat hound , outer space aliens , weird creatures and Gotham City's Rogues Gallery. For fans of this era of Batman I highly recommend the 1957 Dean Martin ( who was an avid comic book reader and hard core fan of Batman) and Jerry Lewis film "Artists and Models" which deals with the comic book controversy of the precode era and revolves around the comic book sci-fi/horror super heroine The Bat Lady. The World's Finest adventures from this period were SUPERb haBAT MANterpieces!

      Your comments are always a BAT MANsterpiece as they are most fun to read and equally informative. Thank you for the tid bit about Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis- fascinating! The 1966 Batman craze was before my time but I enjoy looking at the art and even the trading card series related to it. All the reason to maintain my time machine and travel back in time! Thank you as always for your insights Anthony! It is always a joy seeing you here!

    This excellent retrospective episode is very ''meta'' in a way. It's a time travelling episode about time machines! Because that's what those giant-sized annuals were: paper time machines to Batman's Golden Age. And back in the days before the internet, trade paperbacks and other collected editions, these reprints were the only way, us young comic book fans, could afford to read Batman's earliest tales. I find it impressive that you have the whole set! I only have the the collected editions that DC published around 2009, the two affordable volumes of their DC Comics Classics Library that reprinted all those big annuals. Even if I was a Bronze Age Kid (being born in 1965 and starting to read around 1970), and that I therefore I grew up with the more ''realistic'' and ''serious'' dark detective era of Neal Adams and Jim Aparo, I was always fascinated by any Golden Age Batman reprints DC would throw at us in those thick 48, 52 or 100-pagers that were popular in the 70's. The early issues of Batman Family (a favorite series of mine) comes to mind. Back then, I didn't like the crude art in most of DC Golden Age superhero reprints, except for the Batman stories. The reruns of the Batman 1966 tv series might have made me more familiar with this more ''innocent'' and friendly version of the Space Age era Batman. But a big part was the art of Dick Sprang (often inked by the underappreciated Charles Paris) who remains, to this day, my favorite Golden Age superhero artist. Happy New Year Leo! All the best! And thank you!

      Happy New Year Rangersly! Thank you for watching as always! I agree that the reprints and annuals were a way to catch up on what was missed. The reprint books were thick and generally ad free and one felt as if they truly had something! I liked how the early Batman jumped into different themes- jungle, space, pre-historic, medieval, and one of my favorites- miniature world. It was all very cartoon-ey and fun which is a stark contrast to the dark Batman of today! I have to read up more about Charles Paris, the inker, as you mentioned it. May the year be good to you Rangersly! Thanks again for your knowledge and comment!

    I still wish modern comic book readers, fans, and even some store owners, would admit, that even with the best modern comic book art inside work, IT IS NOT as good as those early and Siver/Bronze age comic books. Even with the ones you showed, which were not on the par with Neil Adams, they are a lot better than MANY "independent " comic books titles that I see in stores today. The artwork is simply not there. There are some exceptions, but it just ins't there.

    • @timetravelcomics
      @timetravelcomics 5 місяців тому +1

      The art of the silver and bronze age gives you a special feeling of wonder and contentment. The initial glances trigger joy in the brain. I agree, the newer artwork you can feel the computer generating the shades and line weights. The comics of the past had collage and mural like qualities, whereas a cover today features just a single character on a mute background. Neil Adams, Gene Colan, John Romita, Jack Kirby, Dick Ayers... I can go on and on, is they understood form and just the right amount of detail for us to read as comic readers.

    • @lukeyznaga7627
      @lukeyznaga7627 5 місяців тому

      Sir, that is an EXCELLENT sxplantion of why the older art is better than the computer art. An artist can customize his colors, depth, and style and shades, weights. computer generated art is more strict, more procedural if you will or programmed. There are great graphic computer programs out there, but they are expensive and the artist or publisher is NOT GOING to use those kind of coloring computer models.@@timetravelcomics

    Loving your channel again brother I love it that you didn't change what the story was about about the Indians and the Batman annual where most of these comic UA-camrs now would call them native Americans and make it sound like it was racist or something like the book was racist I hate when they point that stuff out it was not racist Indians called themselves Indians I can't stand it when people point stuff like that out now keep up doing the great work brother My favorite channel by far I love time traveling with you

      Thank you for watching as always BruceWayne! I really enjoyed the stories in the Giant Batman series. I liked how Batman took on different roles including being a part of a tribe to help. The story created a dilemma between people and a resolution was found. The message was positive in that story. And that is what I think it is all about- resolutions and of course happy endings in comics!
