I'm 18 and I have lived around the block from the Highland Park Bowl my entire life. I am happy that it is being put to good use, just wish it wasn't so expensive.
@@LowEnd31st Those are unquestionably A2s. No other style of pinsetter looks like them. Other than the original As, but nobody runs those outside of museums.
2:28 they say they like it more cause there’s no children when the girl literally starts screaming and doing some sort of fortnite dance for hitting 5 pins down
Ah the Model A and A2 Brunswick A, was 1956, and the A2 was around 1962 Worked on both for many years. A great machine. Had a few close calls but I am still intact :)
I came here once and I never plan to again. 1) So many damn hipsters. 2) For their price I can literally enjoy unlimited play at a modern alley with more drinks. 3) The atmosphere really gives you a “don’t be loud” vibe. This place is for people who have themselves on a high horse.
Man I wish bowling place like this existed nearby me. I would love a bowling place that is only bowling and has this vintage style while also kinda being for older people or people who want space.
Honestly, bowling at an alley that old is a dream of mine. Especially since bowling is my passion and since I’ve dedicated my whole life to it. I dream just to have me swing a HyRoad from 40 all the way out to 5 and see it hit flush pocket on almost 100 year old lanes and pins. The thrill for me would be the best experience of my life 💯
If you want to bowl on Vintage Lanes and know what it was like to bowl in that era, then don't use a HyRoad. Use a real bowling ball. A rubber ball. I plan on going there and will take my vintage rubber ball and enjoy the game the way it was played by the giants of the past.
I have a soft spot for bowling alleys, because my father ran one during my high-school years in the late 1940s. I remember the clatter of the pin-spotters, the rumble of the balls, the smell of chalk, and the enamel on the freshly turned pins.
Yeah, younger people are not picking up bowling and it has been dying out. I grew up in the 60's and 70's, and that was the heyday of bowling. In my town, we had around 30 bowling centers in the heyday and they started closing down in the early 2000's. We only have two bowling centers left.
I used to be the kind of kid who took apart all my mechanical and electrical toys. I'm still that, except for the 'kid' part. I like the non-hidden mechanisms! I'd love to bowl there! But two things make it difficult -- I'm nowhere near LA any more, and I'm not a bowler (yet). What a wonderful place to be, so different in look and feel from the outdoors in LA, from modern commercial/retail design, from most of modern life and chaos. A charming place, maybe a bit antiquey, but a big change of scenery, a visit to a different world almost, a break from everyday.
To clarify, those machines are not original. Back in the day, bowling alleys would have someone in back who set up the pins and threw the ball down the return chute back to you. These automatic machines, which are Brunswick model A, A2, or Jetback, would have been from the late 50s at the oldest. (AMF was first in the early 50s, but theirs are a very different design.) They are mostly mechanical, functioning with switches and buttons triggered by the weight of the pins themselves. Those wood lanes, however, look original and authentic. Modern day lanes are mostly wood-look synthetic material, similar in idea and reason to AstroTurf in outdoor sports: they require less maintenance.
Here in Nashville, we have a new and small bowling and entertainment venue. It has 4 modern lanes and pinsetters and a stage for music performances. It has an older decor feel to it. This place looks like a dive and not that well maintained. For the 60 bucks an hour they charge to bowl there, you would expect a historically restored experience.
I like how there's no tvs. No football games, no electronic score-taking system. If you want to keep score, you need to write it down, making it more personal of a game. I would love to come here some day.
Bro my dad works with this place somehow,I don’t know what exactly he does here cuz he helps with a lot of places but I think he repairs and paints sum type of shit like that, and he has a t shirt I swear
Bet they didn't have to pay the $60/hr fee it cost to bowl there. Gorgeous alley but you cant use your own balls or shoes and the lanes have zero oil on them. Fun to do once, but never again. I will say the pizza is pretty solid though. I'd pop back in for that.
I don't know why they could not save the old qubicaAmf 8230s there are plenty of people here on the tube with refurbished 8230 machines, those would have been awesome, I see it used to be a Qubica place but they made it Brunswick 😁 cool video nonetheless 🙂
Ok the alleys might be that old but the ball returns are not the foul lights are not the gutters would be 3 piece and we all no the pinsetters were not around in that timeline even pin decks have been replaced which usually first thing replaced then the head section any thing else just let me know see ya !

Ya, I bet it's more expensive than a modern bowling alley....
how much did it cost?
I always wondered how the machines do that
You love INSIDER didn’t you?
Sä oot joka paikassa
Their are many different types of machines. These are Brunswick A2s and they function differently as say amf 82-70 machines
@@kmanj4416 are you sure they are a2?

No children but a great place to bring a dachshund
LMFAO "that was actually really good" NO! IT WASNT! 😂
@@bringonthe12thman76 they absolutely cut it and got someone else to throw a strike lol
I love the fake strikes.
yeah, she throws it about 2 mph then it hits at 30 mph and pins go flying.
They make it SOOO realistic 😂
The clip here had knocked down a little bit of bowling pins. 2:30 but later on is only 1 pin standing up. 2:37
Ok, now that's a must-see place
i love that name....
i'm gay by the way....
ok bye!
wait but i'm not bi...
what has my life come to
2:15, throws the ball, goes into the gutter, comes out somehow and hits the pins
It’ll always be Mr. T’s Bowl to me. One of my favorite dives. I saw some great shows there (some of which I snuck into well before I was 21).

Beautiful. Good ole A-2 Pinsetters
Cute video, being from Michigan, bowling centers were huge back in the day… not so much any more.

This does look more mature, I would definitely come here on a date or with my friends
That will be awesome sauce to use this bowling alley,

From a distance, I thought the lanes were all steam-punked
Wow! It's a Brunswick classic "A" pinsetter unit. I always wanted a pair of those lanes.
3:34 on the left it says "BOOBS"

Moving soon to New Bowling Alley in Inglewood Lanes Bowling Center in Inglewood, California by August 2020 to bowl for fun.
The wood floor will go bad before the machines do

Old fashion looks beautiful
Great job, ladies!
I defently have Nostalgia feelings about seeing places like that, i just wish things like a bowling alley will never change.
Them A2's are still the best pinsetters
Where did the "A" salvaged from? I knew Southern California had quite a few of those units in service. Columbus Ohio has dozens of these units.

Wow, that’s almost 93 years old.
Amazing I learned on those very machines
Here before “How to properly clean your metal computer” and “Justin Y”
I think that VR game (Premium bowling) has this alley in the game but it has 4 lanes in the game. So I think they are trying to replicate this place.
This is amazing. Go bowl LA!
Oh yeah yeah
Caroline’s adorable little dance 😍
I love the ball return above
So its technically not that old
Wow I really want to visit here

The only tip I can give bowling alley's in general is having good shoes and a complete variety of different sizes.
I need to know if she threw a strike at the start of the video
Absolutely LOVE IT

I'd like to try my brunswick teal rhino pro reactive resin ball on one of those lanes
"Cousin! This is your cousin, let's go bowling"

Do they oil the lanes

Looks really nice but the pins fall way too easily, like they have no weight to them.
Like the really old ones had some size and heft to them.
Wood lanes?
NCIS filmed scenes here for an episode this season.
I remember The Tom and jerry episodes when they are at a bowling alley lol

If only they had pinboys/pingirls in the back that would make it more authetic.
How many of those 92 years did the bowling alley actually work? Im going to guess only 50
