So many emotions garnered by this song. Anger, Sorrow, and Defiance. I refuse to go quietly into the light. We strive to survive, we survive by keeping our culture alive. Ku'e my brown brethren. He Hawai'i Au.

I wish I could understand this beautiful language. My dream is to go to Hawaii one day . I would probably never go but my heart just melts to see videos like these . Hawaii is so beautiful from left to right.

Never say never! I never even considered going ((tourist trap)), but I ended up visiting Maui and fell in love... Save your pennies and do it! But don't go to the tourist hubs, try to discover the real essence of the place by learning from the natives and respecting their values. If you take care of the land, the land will take care of you. 🤙🏽

Mar Henriqx: This song was written in 1893 by one of the Queen's Ladies. I've forgotten her name. Part of her name was Pendergast. Kaulana Na Pua means Famous are the flowers (people) of Hawaii and the verses are strong protests to the illegal takeover of Hawaii. It is one of the most
loved songs of the Hawaiian people. It is also referred to as "The Stone Eaters' Song" because there is a verse that says we would rather eat the
stones than accept the paper of annexation to the US. When you go, and you should go, make sure you spend some time at the Iolani Palace to learn about what happened in 1893. The US did to Hawaii exactly what Russia is now doing to Ukraine.

Auntie is very old fashioned, but I think this was very well done. I not mind it being modernized and it may reach a lot of the younger people and keep the mele in their tongues. This is an important mele. Mrs. Pendergast wrote a very powerful mele, one that is so powerful this haole will never sing it because to me it is only for the Hawaiians. Enough has been kakaroached and the least I can do now is not kakaroach this mele. Kaulana na pua o Hawai`i, indeed.

Wanda Certo: I don't think you have to shun this song because you are not Hawaiian. Learn it and especially pay attention to pronunciation and know
verse by verse what the words are saying. Read up on the history so you fully understand the kauna. It is so much more than just a beautiful song and it deserves to be sung widely. Many people came to Hawaii from all over the world and became Hawaiian citizens. Some of them sang it

Famous are the children of Hawai`i
      Ever loyal to the land
      When the evil-hearted messenger comes
With his greedy document of extortion
      Hawaiʻi, land of Keawe answers
      Piʻilani's bays help
      Mano's Kauaʻi lends support
And so do the sands of Kākuhihewa
No one will fix a signature
To the paper of the enemy
      With its sin of annexation
And sale of native civil rights
      We do not value
      The government's sums of money
We are satisfied with the stones
      Astonishing food of the land
      We back Liliʻulani
Who has won the rights of the land
      *(She will be crowned again)
      Tell the story
Of the people who love their land

@noanai1. Also, we had respect with the foreigners that came here. There was even a word for it. (For foreigners that are good people, that is) But it is pretty much obsolete because of so-called forced colonialism. It has destroyed that balanced.
