Most people watching this are going to be among the biggest tri fans and yea, I would pay the 5 for some premier events but it would be a huge barrier for the casual fans that need to be captured to grow the sport. Honestly there is a lot to love about this pro series. I love the mayhem of 80 pros starting. I love the simplicity of the point scoring. By the time Kona/Nice rolls around, there are going to be tons of complicated but very obvious scenarios in which pros can win the series
I doubt there would be that many people paying $5 to make a big enough difference across, say top 10 F and M finishers. Every time I watch a stream on YT there are less than 5k viewers at a time . Surely IM has $25k they could divvy out instead.
I'd be willing to pay to see the larger purses for the athletes. I'd be interested to see the response if IM even made it OPTIONAL. Like my crazy DuoLingo account... pay if you can. Cats on here with $5k bikes who love the sport... IJS.
I’m pumped for Oceanside! I did it last year. Miles 23-43 are so hilly on the bike so look for that section to break apart the field. The first 23 miles flat and is tight at points going on a bike path. It’ll be interesting to see if that’ll impact the stronger biker passing in a big field.
Ironman should increase the prize money. 120 pros and 3000 age groupers. Hell no I would not pay! Do most people know how much Ironman charges to do an Ironman or half Ironman. Look it up! It is ridiculously expensive. They are lining their pockets big time. How much does Ironman spent on overhead? How much are they paying their executives especially CEO? It is a joke!
I have so many paid apps and the coverage isn't so important to me so no I wouldn't pay extra. If the men's field is so huge it's going to come down to the swimmer biker I'm my opinion. The biker runner will be so far back that legally passing some 40 to 50 strong men on the bike will be impossible. If you don't get off the bike in the top 25% of the field your done. No Sam Long Miami performances in this race.
@dwahearn he knows he will be far back. I expect with the work he has done on his swimming he will be in the last pack instead of behind it. If he comes out at the front of that pack and has a great transition he will easily bridge up to the middle pack but then get bogged down there. He will end the bike somewhere around middle of the pack and run himself into the 5th to 8th place...
@coachjohn is it just me or is that one of the most exciting things to watch. Hugely disappointing when it doesn't happen but when that dude runs himself up the field kind of like Sam long did the other weekend that has to be one of the most exciting things to watch. Great answer and I hope you're wrong and I hope that dude makes a miracle happened on the swim so he's in contention. Enjoy the race friend!
@dwahearn LS has been putting in the work in the pool. I'm hoping he is in the main pack...if he is he will bike and run to the front...top 5 or podium
There is no way you could charge to watch these races and expect the sport to grow in the future. They need to make their money from advertisements and encourage new people to watch and make it easy for them.
No,,,lol would not pay 5 dollars for the live stream, its so boring, I can only watch high lights, those are perfect, and free, best things in life are free, and me,,,I would prefer a name like heavenly, over the other, lol, your number one dreamer, daytrader, and million dollar race builder:) things like this only happen in heaven, not the other, but I do love to race the demons, so race on guys:)
I’m personally not excited for the 80 deep men’s field. It’s going to be a very boring bike. If they are in a line on the bike with a 12m separation it’s going to be a kilometer long…
A fee would shrink the audience. Ironman definitely needs to up the prize money because this purse is pittance. If they need more revenue to afford it then they need to increase their ad revenue. And that doesn't mean more commercials either. They can increase on screen time for their sponsors (think soccer and NHL). This sport is worth of more money. Now we just need the right business people to organize it.
With so many pros starting, i‘d be very interested to know, how many time will be given to the start of women after the men. If the women catch the men on the water or even bike, it would probably ruin their race.
Expectations always getme into trouble! lets go Lionel! And not with a sprint finish. With a good solid swim , attack on bike and finish with a commanding run. No expectations whatsoever!
Great vid - thanks for the detail! I'm withdrawing from the start list, as Im racing a Paris qualifying event in South Africa instead. Super bummed to be missing it. Catch you all in St. George!
Here in the UK we normally gotta purchase a monthly subscription to watch any event costing more than $5 so I’d rather be given the option to pay $5 each time I wanna watch the race but as long as it’s not too many adverts and commercial breaks with better coverage and more commentators out on the road 🤷🏻♂️
You already have to pay outside plus if you can‘t see live, which happens pretty often outside us. I‘d even pay im an abo for all their transmissions, the problem is, their broadcast ist not very good in my opinion. But to answer the question properly: yes, if a big chunk of the broadcast money would goto the price purse, than yeah, I‘d pay 5 bucks per race.
@@thedailytri wait I might be confused. Aren’t you the same one’s that used to run Obsessed Triathlete ? The fantasy looks exactly the same as theirs used to so I assumed it’s the same. They used to have a way to present live splits during a race but in a far better visualization than Ironman or pto. So they used to timing mat info from the Ironman API but presented it all on one page and just showed gaps between groups. I heard they got cut off from the Ironman API so they stopped, but I can imagine that pto may be more amenable to giving API access
Back in the day the Wildflower triathlon use to attract a huge field of pro athletes. Love to know how it compares the the big 120 pro field. Maybe check into that.
Can’t wait to watch this go down in person! It’ll be my first time seeing an Ironman. I have a couple friends competing too so I’m gonna be there “all day” haha
I actually think he can! California to Singapore isnt too bad on business class and it's two middle distance races so not crazy for someone who trains volume like him!
@@thedailytri I agree that he can definitely do it. What I really meant was if it makes sense strategically - it seems to me that there are so many races this season and you can only perform really well in a limited number of them. I am really curious whether he will show up in both of them and even more if he performs well - meaning better than last year.
@@thedailytri You changed my mind - now it starts to make sense. It’s gonna be a difficult double though both mentally and physically - I mean travelling with your family basically on a business trip that requires you to be in a top shape will be a big challenge.
#EverySecondMatters, so excited for the season kick off at Oceanside! Thank you for breaking it down for our community!

Outside TV has a big problem. Whoever does there coding for streaming stinks. It's so glitch. Bad Kung Fu from that coder
Hey Travis, THX for the news!!! Top job!!!
Thanks Foli!!
i would keep it free and put a donation that will go directly to prize money

From someone not afraid to say it, Jelle Geens (and Tyler Mislawchuk) are both impressively over-rated. They're just not killers.

I would definitely pay the 5 bucks to support the hard working triathletes. But would probably not bring new fans to our sport.

120 Pros? The marshalls are going to have their hands full with drafting penalties

Paying the fiver would be worth it to goose the prize pool and help turn this into a more viable profession
Let's go 🇺🇲💥
I can't wait to see how you do! I'm team Matti all day!

Definitely would pay $5
Competition is now wide open.
Everyone wants a piece of the pie

100% I'd pay $5
I would pay
free 99 only
I've never gambled before, but I'd bet that gambling would attract the largest audience.
And I have a feeling, I will get the best of the best to show up, as 50k is a long way off 1 million:) go shib:)
Now that's a proper stacked field at Oceanside. Yes I'd pay $5 to stream great races.
I like to watch the streams but can never really watch the whole race so I just watch what I can. If I had to pay, I would not watch.
Totally pay $5. But I m a total Tri fan, and if you are trying to gain new viewers it would be a barrier .
Not $5 but would pay $4.99
Haha! Same...
How are you not talking about thomas rodriguez?
Marc dubrick or Trevor foley if not Sam long
You have to pay for Outside if you can't watch the event live.
Will you provide live splits for either Ironman or T100 races like you used to earlier? Your format was so much better than them
What do you mean? On the watchalong?

@@thedailytri that sounds brilliant. I hope you’re able to collaborate with the PTO
Only 3 spots but at least 12 (Sanders, Long, Landry, Dubrick, Foley, Quenet, Sharpe, Currie...) are already qualified so roll down will happen

Please explain how we can watch the live stream and where is it located?

I don’t see Long racing Oceanside and Singapore - there’s just not enough time to recover. What do you think?

10$
green screen rocks!
Green screen is the best $17 dollars I've spent haha yet haha
$5 easy
Sam should either do this race or Singapore
Agree, I don’t think he will race in Oceanside. There’s no incentive for him to do this race.
I think he will be interested in a 70.3 Worlds spot and also Sam just wants to race the best. This race also isnt too far from home in Tuscon!
