This should be like a requirement for anyone with a daw. For free, you immediately get access to a near limitless number of patches out there, and the sound is just spot on. I love Dexed
I've had dexed for a long time i normally just use the patches as they are,you have influenced me to play around with it more and the create your own cart tip is spot on i love it thank you.
Ive been trying so hard to understand dexed and there’s so much i’ve learned here. I actually understand how to create and modify sounds and my mind is blown by how many possibilities can be created with this. Thank you so much for the tutorial!
Thank you so much...as a teenager of the 80's...to actually now grab a bit of software like this...and create the same sounds as those from the big rock ballads all those years ago...it just blows me away! Just the ability to stack Dexed patches alone makes Unify an absolute bargain. And that's just a small percentage of what it can do. A million thumbs up from me!
This Unify program looks pretty cool. Definitely something useful to combine various VSTs. As for Dexed it is very cool VST and also utility for DX7 users but also all compatible gear like Volca FM and others.
This is incredible, exactly the sound I'm looking for. I just downloaded Dexed last night and am trying to wrap my head around it. This video helps a lot.
Tuesday Tips has become essential viewing and not just for Unify owners but, as in this case, to get the best out of the other included virtual instruments. Like others here I have had Dexed for ages and used the presets but this is a really handy tutorial on how to tweak it to make your own. blown away at the sounds after grabbing this synth HOWEVER the 'show dir' doesn't open a file explorer, only able to launch file explorer via 'load' (windows 64 bit using reaper) (&&& functions as expected in standalone mode, outside of DAW) ... any way, totally would recommend, super happy with the synth. and kinda worried about infinite bliss while browsing the 3k patches in the 'DX7 All The Web' ... also 17:01 totally reminds me of Rhye's opening for "Phoenix"

I'm a fan of the 4op sounds (DX100 or DX27 etc) Also it's always worth tweaking patches, even just move knobs a tiny amount, you'll be surprised how much more alive patches can become.
I just found out about dexed less than a week ago. I have it installed on 3 Raspberry pi’s. I have 2 DX7’s. One has the Grey Matter add on. I also have a TX816 rack unit full with 8 cards. I also have Absynth and FM8. Just installed it on my iPad 2 Pro. I need to figure out how to get the sound banks on the Raspberry pi’s. I think I know how, just need to try it and see if it works. This was unbelievably helpful. I must say I would have appreciated it if you had taken a few extra minutes to explain and demonstrate each of the different parameters. Of course I can play around with the knobs myself but knowing exactly what each one is doing from a technical sense (which you seem to have knowledge of) would have been very helpful. Could any kind soul please help me with a question? Is it possible to select the default folder when you want to save and load a preset? When I press "save" it takes me to a certain folder and when I press "load" it takes me to a completely different one. I tried loading a patch to see if it saved the path and opened that folder straight away the next time I loaded something, but it still takes me to the same initial default folder😮💨
I've had this VST sitting around on my computer for ages and have just never really done anything with it. I'm also a fairly crap keyboard player so maybe I can improve my playing and my understanding of this synth together. Thanks for the video :)

hey, sometimes while using the dexed and flicking between sounds, a sound will freeze and never go unless i reload the dexed, any idea what is doing it?
Lower Left there is a knob above the wording "MIDDLE C". That will change the reference note - make it C2 or C1 to play lower notes, C4 or C5 to play higher notes and be in the right key (you have 5 octaves range).
One thing I don't think was mentioned is that all of DEXED patches can be used by the original hardware DX7. It is almost like a library editor for the original hardware in that respect.

I've been searching for a solution not but still can't find one. Why does everything sound mono, I've checked every setting and everything is on stereo but every sound from dexed still comes out mono for some reason. Takes away a lot of the beauty from it. HELP, i am using a Casio CTK-350 on my pc with Dexed, but its too slow, the response is not going fast i play a note and 1 second after it play, do you know the problem?

There is - Next to each of the 6 OSC "LEVEL" knob is a knob named "Key Vel" which is the sensitivity to velocity. Make sure you look at the Algorithm because the Key Vel knob controls volume on the operators that show up at the bottom row, but any row above they control the sound going from dark to bright timbre by velocity. Hope this helps.
This is an interesting plugin but my interest in it is layered DX sounds. I can load up two or more instances of Dexed in my DAW, so I'm thinking why should I get Unify? Maybe someone who understands the Unify concept could explain. :) Also, have I understood correctly: Unify can load VST2 plugins? Because that would solve the problem with Cubase 12 not supporting VST2 plugins anymore.
So just to make sure, this is royalty free, correct? If I were to use this vst in my music and release it on a streaming platform, I would not have to pay any royalties to the people who own Dexed?

My problem with dexed are the thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of patches. I can't find the sound that i want and it takes too long to sift through everything.
WHat I still don't understand, do you run dexed inside of a DAW or on it's own? I'm trying to run it on its own but when it opens, it's too big for the screen and I can't resize the window.
Dexed is a plug-in and I don't believe it comes with a standalone version. You need to use Reaper or your DAW of choice, or our own Unify multi-plugin playground that comes as both plugin and standalone. If it doesn't fit your screen you need to increase the resolution of your monitor. Dexed doesn't have any screen resize options.
DEXED doesn't have any built in effects - so it must be something in your DAW's mixer adding reverb. There are some patches that have poorly simulated reverb but for the vast majority, they are totally dry from Dexed.

Hi there - please contact us at unifysupport@pluginguru.com so we can help you directly. The FULL INSTALLER installs Standalone, VST, VST3 and on the Mac AU plugin formats of Unify. I'd suggest doing a full install again - contact us if you need more specific help. :D
When the sustain keeps going for me I'll change the preset to fix it like u said, but sometimes It'll keep playin the same note and sound even on the new preset
Even when the new patch is in the "Current Cart"? Clicking on other patches in the temporary bank WILL sustain notes but from my work with it, clicking a patch in the lower cartridge has always stopped hanging notes. Could be different on your computer because plug-ins sometimes does things like that.... :D
Yes you can.... "Fully supports DX7 input and output Sysex messages; including controller change. This means that you can use this with a native DX7/TX7 as a patch editor and SysEx manager."
@@kr1340 - I am sorry but I don't have experience doing this - I do own an original DX7 but have not done this or used Bome. So google and UA-cam are your friends.... or maybe a forum somewhere...

What sound on Dexed is closest to what New Order used for the synth bassline of True Faith? I've been trying to figure this out for ages.

I was hoping this would send the patches to my dx7. I can only get sounds from the cartridges,but i only have number 3 and 4. What should i do?

For a free synth or in fact for a paid one, Dexed is simply incredible. I actually really prefer it to emus such as the Arturia version.

I would suggest either downloading one of the 20,000 DX7 sysex files and looking thru it or asking on a Dexed forum.

It´s a great software emulation but, until now, it´s only available for Mac and PC (not Android neither iPad a you mention here!)

Why are there multiple knobs, 1, 2 ,3 and 4? and what do these terms displayed mean?
When I got this I had. Hard time to open hyperlink for he dex cart what im did is highlight it or right click and copy link to get it.

Why is the UI so impossibly small? Almost unusable even on a 24" screen. Can it not be scaled to fill any screen?

Yes, the interface is not expandable unfortunately. Nice tip to recommend Magnifier to help see parameters better!

Do you know if you can make sounds on the iOS version and then transfer that somehow to the VST version inside Unify?

When the sustain keeps going for me I'll change the preset to fix it like u said, but sometimes It'll keep playin the same note and sound even on the new preset
Even when the new patch is in the "Current Cart"? Clicking on other patches in the temporary bank WILL sustain notes but from my work with it, clicking a patch in the lower cartridge has always stopped hanging notes. Could be different on your computer because plug-ins sometimes does things like that.... :D

Yes you can.... "Fully supports DX7 input and output Sysex messages; including controller change. This means that you can use this with a native DX7/TX7 as a patch editor and SysEx manager."

@@kr1340 - I am sorry but I don't have experience doing this - I do own an original DX7 but have not done this or used Bome. So google and UA-cam are your friends.... or maybe a forum somewhere...
