I was only surprised by Secret, because they were popular in korea back then, especially Hyosung. Nine Muses was pretty popular too tho, but I knew they didn't quite reach the popular status (I didn't know back then tho). But I definitely relate to listening to a bunch of groups in the past without a clue that they were unpopular or even close to disbandment, like BTS and EXID were (I even went to a BTS concert back in 2014).
I mean 9muses, Secret and Dalshabet were NOT nugu. Dalshabet could even be classified as the Mamamoo of 2nd gen, very big and very influential. BestiE were also quite famous especially cause they were all former EXID members. As for Laboum, they are not nugu anymore cause of Journey to Atlantis blew up in 2021
Alice are somewhat nugu in the sense not many of their songs are famous, but they still book big shows (like top 3 university festivals), and Sohee is VERY VERY popular. Sadly she left them now which will probably make the group disband
People assume that 9Muses were nugu because they never got a music show win, but that is NOT the case. Several of the members are even known by the GP individually.
This era of nugu boygroups is like... boy group royalty to me. I don't think a boygroup can release a catchier song than UNIQ's eoeo or Boys Republics' Get Down.

Being into nugu groups is so painful, in the last 2-3 years I’ve watched like 5 of my favorite groups disband just because they weren’t popular enough. SKYLE is one of my absolute favorites and even though they have only had 1 true comeback other than their debut, they are most likely about to disband because they haven’t come back in almost 2 years (dangerous territory). Da da da is such a masterpiece from them, it is so sad to watch groups like these disband when they have such good music. Some of my favorite groups were Bling Bling Hot Issue Pink Fantasy Bugaboo GWSN (though could be argued not nugu) Although there are also some that are on the verge of disbanding such as SKYLE Ichillin Lightsum Weeekly (though also maybe not considered nugu, just sad after their success with After School) DreamNote (their song “Wish” is what got me into them and was so good. Luckily, they have just announced their next comeback so hopefully that means they won’t disband, although we won’t know until after this next comeback) It is so sad to watch these groups go after you grow such a connection to them. All you can do is wish the members luck on their future endeavors after disbandment, as sad as it is.

I discovered History's "죽어버릴지도 몰라" and Uniq's "EOEO" when they were usually in the same list of videos titled "underrated kpop songs" or something similar. For The Ark, I found out about them when one of their members Kim Euna participated in The Unit as well and that she's really good in what she's doing. Their debut song "The Light" was amazing to listen to and it was very emotional to think that this was a debut song. I searched on why weren't they huge with their song and there were speculations that because of the Sewol Ferry tragedy (2014), their MV (2015) reminded people of that unfortunate incident so it wasn't a big hit at that time (( though a few years later when people were healing, the song caught people's eyes from what i've read online )) and also because one of the members injured their vocal chords (?) if I can remember that correctly. Pink Fantasy was because one of their members participated in one of the I Can See Your Voice episodes with Mamamoo as the guests.

I searched on why weren't they huge with their song and there were speculations that because of the Sewol Ferry tragedy (2014), their MV (2015) reminded people of that unfortunate incident so it wasn't a big hit at that time (( though a few years later when people were healing, the song caught people's eyes from what i've read online )) and also because one of the members injured their vocal chords (?) if I can remember that correctly.
Pink Fantasy was because one of their members participated in one of the I Can See Your Voice episodes with Mamamoo as the guests.

I was a hardcore kpop stan till 2017 and then I stopped listening to music for a few years. I love how this video is so new, yet it almost perfectly summarizes many of my favorite bops from that time

1. since when was 9muses, hellovenus, spica and fiestar a nugu group? 😭 i think 2nd gen stans know them very well?? and speed was actually popular bcs of their choreography

3. MINX is DREAMCATCHER now and they had a complete 180 with their genre hahahahahaha
