- Rakshitha Raju is a Paralympian, an Asian Para Games medalist & World Para Athletics Grand Prix medalist.
Born visually impaired, she was raised by her grandmother, who is also a person with disability. As a child, her dream of boarding a train inspired her PT teacher to encourage her to run. This sparked her initial motivation to race locally. Her PT master took her to national meets, where she met her Sowmya & was later introduced to Rahul Balakrishna.
Under them, she trained rigorously to perfect her skills on the track. In 2017, she qualified for the Youth Asian Para Games but couldn't attend due to logistical issues. The next year, she made history by winning Gold in the 1500m at the Asian Para Games, becoming one of the first female athletes in her category to achieve this.
Rakshitha's dedication led her to multiple national and international accolades. She excelled by winning gold in the 1500m and 800m events at the World Para Athletics Junior Championships.
She won the gold in the 1500m T11 event in the 2023 Asian Para Games, showcasing her talent on a grand stage.
She has been with the foundation since 2019, & we have supported her with guide runner fees, on-ground physiotherapy, and spikes, thanks to our partners. Aspiring to be an IAS, Rakshitha is all set to break new ground at the Games, we wish her all the best.
