I ve got mine about 2 years ago. I use it mainly for riding my motorbike . Still in great shape. They are and feel great and the do not need any break in. Why buy leathet when one can buy these? And you ll feel better knowing no one died 😉
Exactly! There is no need to buy real leather again :)
also Wills of london do great stuff
No animal died for real cowhide leather....
Youve had these for a year?! Wow i seriously thought these were new! You have almost no creasing on the nose!
I am quite gentle on my shoes to be fair, but even so they have held up very well!
I’ve had mine 4 years. They look as good as the day I bought them. They’re easy to clean. I’ve worn them doing home remodeling, in the mud, and also daily in my work where I go into some really nasty environments and nothing sticks to them.
I prefer the black eyelets, I wish they would make a vegan one with black ones, as I don't like the contrast.
Emmagination they made them now!Totally black Jadon!
I brought my vegan doc martins in burgundy and the eyelets are black/grey
i just got the vegan jadon platform boot in the dark cherry color and they’re BEAUTIFUL im so excited to wear them
That's awesome! I'm sure you will love wearing them
Omg same
Theodora Martino I’m obsessed with them. Weirdly they weren’t hard to break into maybe a week later I got used to them
Theodora Martino I did the exact same thing even the same size😂 the 5 felt good without fuzzy socks and im planning to also use them over the summer sometimes my foot slides to the front and it’s uncomfortable but otherwise it feels good. I might go a size bigger next time but I’m not sure
Theodora Martino it really be like that sometimes 😂 ummm maybe just when I wear really thick socks or when I run in them and my foot slides to the front
I didn't know you could get these vegan...awesome!
Yeah a lot of people are surprised to hear that!
Thankyou so much for saying that they NEED time to be broken in. I just got mine, but also they hurt a lot and I kept hearing that vegan doc martens dont need to be broken in, so i got really discouraged. I will wait some more weeks and I think that then I will be able to use them normally. Thankyou so much for your video! :)
hiii i've bought the vegan to but it's really painful to wear... what did you do?
@@negarmostafavi i just kept wearing them with really thick socks... just keep going at some point you will notice they will be a little lighter to wear! And in case use plasters if you need them
@@ninaduschek9267 thaank you... I did the same thing and it worked
OMG!!! I'm so glad this video came up. I'm going to the Doc Marten store as soon as it opens. Thank you for the fantastic review.
When u told me that you’ve had them for a year I was like WHaT they look brand new
They hold up very well!
Had them for a year .......Just hadn't worn them! That' s why Lol ...
i don’t like the rings in gold, but i don’t wanna buy non vegan ones so that really sucks😩
Thats a shame :( If it makes a difference, in person the rings are more of a silvery gold, they are not like a bright yellow. Or depending on what style you wanted there are some that don't have any eyelets at all, such as the 2976 Felix boot.
The Life Botanic oh okay thank you!! i guess i’ll just have to try them on in the store then & see if i like them :)
Mine are vegan and the rings are black
Veronica omg where did you buy them??
The vegan ones I saw in the shops didnt have gold rings. Maybe theyve changed since
Perfect video, answered all my questions since I'm looking to switch from my old Timberlands to a vegan alternative.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm changing my timberlands to dr martens too!
I have my vegan 1460 in early 2023. And surprisingly i dont really have an issue to wear that. I expect that will hurt my foot in first time i wear. But its not. This is so comfortable (ofc in boots way not sneakers). This is my best investment in this year ❤
but I have problems with my vegans, because my daily use is a kinda little messy. how do you clean scratches on the front of the shoe?
Unfortunately I had to purchase another style after ten months of fairly hard wear. The leather around the toe began peeling on one shoe (from sitting on concrete with legs crossed at school) so be careful with the leather if you’re one to kick/scrape. The major issue I had was with the sole. It began splitting at the black rubber and sole join on the inside of one shoe. Would not recommend these shoes if you’re not kind to your shoes but the 1460 vegan shoes were great to me for a while.
Sorry to hear that you had to replace them :(
Did dr.martens give you a refund??
Hi there, really nice video. I'd like to know how waterproof they are. I hope they are ideal to wear during rain and slight snow.
You are so pretty! And your outfit at the end is adorable. And Australian accents are so cute. So all around, I think this is my new fave channel
Thank you so much for your support xx
Omg, thanks so much! I just received mine and wondered about the half sole, I thought they were defective! Glad they aren't 🙌🖤
how long did it take you to break them in because i have had mine for about two months now and i wear them three days a week and i still get huge blisters. is that normal or not?
Hey, love the video, thanks for the advice!
I’ve just bought a new pair of vegan 1460 Cherry Red heritage fit DMs (quite a mouthful). In contrast to a former pair of vegan DMs that I had bought maybe four or five years ago the company seems to have changed the upper material from polyurethane to something more appealing. They are made in Vietnam theses days. General fit is very akin to what you’re used from traditional 1460 DMs (they’re probably using the same or a very similar last). I bet they’ll look on the dance floor too!
just bought the vegan molly boots super excited for them to arrive. awesome review!
I was lucky and had no real heel issues, but am currently having a lot of arch issues. I might be getting insoles for this. However the durability is great, the bend at the toe did take a while. With a quick wash mine look very new. I wear them for work.
Mine finally have a crease in the toe now too, but it took well over a year and a half for that to happen and they still look great!
i got the non-vegan docs, i dont remember if where i got them from had vegan ones but the 1460s were about 120 usd at famous footwear, and i mean docs are pricey but i looked up how long they're supposed to last and looks like theyre meant to last anywhere from 5 to 20 years
Yay new video! Btw your house/apartment is gorgeous! You have such good taste in decorating
Thank you so much!
I agree your place is soo cute, those bookshelves look amazing! You should do a house tour video!
I don't know if I'll do a house tour, I think you've seen most of it in my vids already :P Although I do plan on renovating the office so maybe I'll do one after that!
hiii...thanks for sharing your experiment...i've bought my vegan boots but it's really painful to wear...do you have any tips for breaking in them?
Hi just bought a pair of the vegan Chelsea boots . Love them breaking them in at moment. Feel tight with thickish socks I’m a size nine mens was worried I should have got large size say 10 but think I just need to break them in . Oh I read vegan ones are waterproof? What you think . Great video kind regards joe
Watching this in 2020, from web search - just bought a pair and was trying to figure out how to tell if they actually are the vegan ones so now I know - only Doc heads will know, lol. Haven't worn Doc's since school days - was psyched to get home from work and find the box, after I opened the front door.
I had a pair of DM 1460 years ago and I'm happy they create this vegan line, but... being synthetic, what about breathability ? Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with us ♥
Hi Nora, I have not really noticed any difference in that regard between my vegan boots and old leather shoes that I have worn. I have not noticed my feet feeling overheated or feeling sweaty or anything. I hope that's helpful :)
@@TheLifeBotanic Thanks a lot for your kindness and your help ! ♥ I hope I will find them soon ^^
It always surprises me that people have to break in docs haha. I’ve had e few pairs, 3 classic ones(leather) and two of the low ones (also leather) and had NO trouble breaking in luckily. Around two weeks ago I got vegan ones, the ones with only 6 holes for the laces. I’ve only wore them ones to school tho because they squeak when I walk:( When I wore them for the first time I did feel a difference with the sole, it was less soft on the inside, but now I know why:) I don’t have a problem with it to
I wish I didn't have to break mine in. I went through a lot of bandaids at first lol. I guess everyone has different feet :)
I just got my vegan Dr Martens! I was just wondering how you take care of your shoes and especially how you clean them!
Hi Marielle, basically the only effort I really put into taking care of them is making sure they don't get too wet. If I've been out in the rain I will take them off and dry them with a towel when I get back inside. Other than that I just give them a dust with a clean cloth if they get a bit dirty, and that's really it! I hope you love your new boots x
Talking about the lether, I tried vegan ones myself at the store and it seemed that there was a resistance on my ankle when I was walking. Does the synthetic lether «breaks» and gets softer as you break them in? Vs. the ones in soft lether like the Virginia or Nappa model per example. ? Thanks!!
Yes, they absolutely do take a little while to break in but they will get softer after wearing them a few times. In my experience, they "break in" a little more quickly than the actual leather ones do, but I still needed to wear a few band-aids at first so I wouldn't get blisters on my heels.
how its call that model? only 1460? nothing else? thanks
Thanks for the review!! Do you think they would hold well for walking long distances every day, or taking on walks to muddy terrain, forest, etc? These look great, and I'm looking for a boot that can both be a dressy shoe, but also something durable for constant use! THanks!! :)
I just got the vegan burgundy ones, my right pinky toe got a little sore but everything else is perfect
I got these around 8 years ago but the vegan leather started to peel off around the 4 year mark, tryna find a way to fix them and makes me really sad but I still use them tho.
Do you use any care products? If so which ones?
The most beautiful vegan boots user !!!
Thank you for watching! x
I can watch you all day long !!!
I just bought their Vegan Jadon platform boots online. I hope they fit good.
I've purchased some this year exactly because of how resistant they are. I Bought the Jadon II Mono (the platform ones, even though I love the classic boots), but I don't know how I should clean them. I mean, I know I have to use a spray for the rain, for example, and that I don't need any additional care as the leather ones need. But still, what is the best way to clean them? Just with water? Can I use something like baby wipes? ✨
i was thinking the same thing!! my jadon mono II ‘s just came in last night and i don’t have to clean them yet of course but i was wondering how the process would work for me. i’m so glad i’m not the only one lol
I just use water and a soft cloth and be sure to dry them thoroughly afterwards. Baby wipes would probably be fine too.
@@TheLifeBotanic Thank you ✨
How often do you wear them? Is that a year of constant wear, or just a few months/weeks out of the year? I thought you got them yesterday, they’re in such great shape! How are they for keeping clean? Have you spilled coffee or food or anything on them?
Hi Grayson, I would say I wear them a moderate amount, so not everyday but a couple of times a week on average. I do try to keep them out of the rain and mud etc. as much as possible, but no more than I do with any other shoe. In other words, I'm not super careful with them. I don't think I've spilled anything on them either. They also seem to be less likely to crease than the non-vegan ones, I guess because they're softer to start with, so that helps them stay new looking too. Thanks for your questions! :)
The Life Botanic thanks for your reply! I work in a cafe so spilling coffee is inevitable for me.
3 years later, how are they?
What is the best way to clean vegan boots? I recently purchased sum and I got sum sand on them. Most of it wiped right off but I'm curious of mild detergent and sum warm water will do the trick..
Most important thing why I don't like plastic leather is that they don't breathe at all, and my feet sweat a lot so this is a big problem. Do these breathe at all? I really want to get vegan boots, so looking between these and will's vegan store that makes plant based leather(not plastic, but plants).
Great review - thanks! Have you tried the shoes variant?
Hi, thank you for watching! I myself haven't tried any styles other than the one shown unfortunately.
Would you say that the vegan leather material still stretches a bit? I recently got the vegan sandals and am curious if the part that's tight around the end of my feet will loosen over time
Hi Heather, yes they do loosen up and get softer during the breaking in process which can take quite a long time sometimes.
They don't stretch as much as leather, but they definitely become more comfortable. They're more true-to-size than the leather version :)
I’m a size 8.5 US women’s. Should I size down or up??
Hi Savannah, I would say size up and then wear thick socks :)
DoubleJung.x thanks for that, i had the same problem and wasn‘t sure if i made the right decision by sizing down. Cool!
Does anyone have any advice on how to look after my vegan Dr Martens boots please? Pretty much all the care information on Dr Martens website relates to the non-vegan boots. Thanks!!
Can you do a two year update? :)
That was a perfect guide. Thank you so much.
Are the vegan shinier?
Bro! I thought they were brand new from the start!
I'm thinking of doing a follow-up vid now that I've had them for two years to show that they really do hold up very well. The quality is fantastic.
Thank you for all the information!
Once, I bought the vegan chelsea boot online. The "leather" creased very easily, and they generally seemed very fragile. My advice would be to opt for something else, unless you've actually been to the store and tried them.
i just got mine today! i got a size down but i usually wear thick socks :/ should i change it with a bigger size?
I have the 1461 vegan shoes but I’m scared if they don’t stretch because I got a size up and it’s still a bit small at the back, do you think they will stretch? Thanks
- Lauren
Mine definitely felt tight in the back at first because of the stiffness but they softened up over time so you may just need to break them in.
Are you sure the vegan ones are made in England? I'm trying to find a pair on their website but the made in England section seems to be all leather! Please help!
Super helpful video thanks!
How do you keep them clean? my shoes get really dirty because I walk to school everyday😔
I'm just about to buy one. I am worried that the syntetic leather won't let the air in and out as leather would, and my feet can't "breathe". What u think about that?
I haven't noticed any difference between these shoes and genuine leather shoes in that regard. My feet don't overheat or anything, even in summer.
Csenge Zoë Balaton I feel like the vegan ones don't breathe as well as the leather ones, I only wear my vegan ones in the winter and they still feel kind of hot to me
Hello!, your size is 9, but what are your feets in centimeters ?
Although, you don't need to polish or condition them, what would you recommend using to clean them? I bought my first pair in the January sale, you see. Xx
I just use water and a soft cloth and be sure to dry them thoroughly afterwards :)
@@TheLifeBotanic Thank you! Xx
I would love to know how your DR Martens vegan pair aged.
thank you so much! im definitely buying the vegan ones!
hi! was recently gifted a pair. wondering if you've already polished yours. if so, what did you use and how? thank you in advance for your time
Hi and thanks for your comment :) I have not actually gotten around to polishing mine yet because they still look great even after almost 2 years, but I did buy some vegan polish online from the brand Vegetarian Shoes which was recommended to me.
The Life Botanic thanks for the suggestion. i will look up that brand. cheers!
Hi do they get really sweaty? Synthetic leather usually doesn't allow feet to breathe in the way real leather does. Many thanks
Hi Sa, I have not had any problems with them getting sweaty or overheating even after wearing them for an entire day.
Thanks for a nice review!
Thank you for watching :)
I recently got metallic purple docs and they are tight across the top of my foot. Wearing them in at home with no laces to try stretch the top. Omg it killed me the first time i wore them lol
Does it have as much give as the non vegan ones?
My boyfriend had some non-vegan docs (from since before he turned vegan), and the breaking in process seemed to be very similar to my vegan ones. Both kinds were very tight across the top of the foot and on the heel. Bandaids were my best friend when first breaking them in!
@@TheLifeBotanic i have almost broken them in lol
Hairdryer to heat them up then i put on the thickest socks i have and wore them for as long as possible. Theyre much better now
Hi,thanks for sharing,I just got my DM boots 1460 Nappa, there’s a problem really bothers me which is the squeaky sore and the leather rubbing,do you have that problem and any solution for it?Thank you
It sounds like you may just need to break them in a bit more and those problems will probably go away.
How are these 3 years later?
Can you use the wonder balsam on them?
I can see Harry potter books on the back 😅
Btw nice video !!
Omg you're like me! I'm always looking at peoples bookshelves in their videos to try and figure out what they read hahaha xx
I bought a pair of vegan 3989 shoes recently.
Awesome! I hope you love them as much as I love mine
can someone help please im looking at getting these what should i buy for care/making them waterproof xxx
Are they just the 1460 boots, or the 1460 Felix Rub Off Boots? :)
Hi, they are the Felix Rub Off ones. Felix Rub Off is the name of the leather alternative that Doc Marten uses for their black vegan shoes. There are a few other vegan materials they use such as Cambridge Brush for cherry red vegan shoes. Any shoes with these names in them are the vegan kind :)
@@TheLifeBotanic thank you! :)
@@TheLifeBotanic ohhh okay for some reason i thought that the “felix” 1460 was different from the regular 1460💀
Does anyone know of they stretch? Don’t know if I should size up or down
What do you do to remove scuffs?
Are there any green or red coloured boots?
As far as I know there are cherry red, black, and metallic pink, blue, gold and silver colours available in the vegan range. It keeps expanding though so hopefully more colours will be available in the future.
Looking for the best hardy Vegan boots . Thank you ;D
Are they Waterproof
Cute video
Are they only available online or can they be found in stores?
They can absolutely be found in stores, I got mine from a store :) If a store near you only stocks normal Dr Martens but not the vegan ones maybe you can ask them to order them in.
Oh my god I have the 1461s and my foot is on fire from the blisters
Has anyone wore them on cold weather? I'm travelling to Canada next month, and I need to buy boots, because I only have thin-soled shoes. I also want them to be vegan, and not ugly (most winter boots out there aren't both).
+Rick94rr I personally have not worn them in cold weather so can't give any advice unfortunately, hopefully someone else will be able to help you :)
I’ve worn them during winter in northern Sweden. They’re okay as winterboots! Although you might need an extra sock to stay warm, and if it’s really cold the outersoles tend to become hard and plastic-like so be careful if it’s icy :)
Thank you! :3
I ordered mine a week ago a size 8 and they came in today and they are almost 2 sizes too big :( im so sad I have to return them and wait for my refund and then buy them again
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that, hopefully your next pair will fit nicely. All the best xx
Hi, it's unisex, right? I want one!
Yes they are unisex! :)
Such a great video!
+Jessica Hart Thank you so much!
Do u have the experience like your heel fliping out ?
Hi, no I haven't had that experience so I can't comment on that issue, sorry!
Hey, how can I prevent the creasing ??
Buy shoe trees
So what are the made from if not leather?
Plastic
What are they made of?
As far as I know the company is keeping the exact material a trade secret so I'm not sure, sorry!
Honestly I’d recommend buying second hand leather if you’re concerned about the ethics and environmental impact of leather/pleather. It’s good to note that vegan leather is 99% of the time polyurethane(using large amounts of chemicals and non-biodegradable plastics) unfortunately. Leather is biodegradable and a bi-product of the meat industry. And with leather, if you treat it right and resole it, good leather shoes can last you decades instead of just one year. But if you already own leather or pleather shoes, throwing them away to buy new shoes ultimately defeats the purpose of helping the environment, so wear what you have until it’s time for it to go. hopefully helpful words that might help some people.
Leather is not always a byproduct of meat and dairy industry. This is a myth
Vegan not lather??
I wanna make videos with you on this channel, know we would do well together😍
Vegan shoes have been around for years. They are called cheap shoes!
They may be a year old, but clearly they've only been worn a handful of times. Vintage made in England docs are the only ones worth talking about though.
I don't wear them daily but at least 2-3 days per week :)
but they animal skin in them, so not worth it at all.
You brake your health its not breezing! And its hot , its sutable only in cold season ! It should cost half for this unhealthy vertion! The only gore-tex material could compare with leather and stil a doubt
this docs look like mine after a week.
Vegang JUU HURRRRRRD
Is this vegan i can wear for 5 to 10 years? It is as good as the real leather
N some more the hot sunny weather will affect the vegan leather?
I've had mine for about 3 years now and haven't really noticed any difference between the vegan leather and real leather. I plan to do an update video soon, but the only visible wear is some creases on the toe and heel and some scuff marks on the toe where I have kicked the concrete ground with them. They do just fine in hot weather as well.
@@TheLifeBotanic Thanks for the explaination..
you are dam beautiful
Thank you :)
The Life Botanic i own 1460 in black, bought in 2007. It is still rocking :)
Their customer service emails tell you what song they're listening to? That just comes across as pretentious and egotistical. "Lead Vocalist".. what the hell is that?
Yeah it's a bit weird. At my old job our skype would tell people what we were listening to, so I listened on my phone instead.
