► If you're looking to get into retro reviewing or streaming, here's some of the equipment I used for both or either. After years of focusing on the best games for the NES, I decided to change gears and focus on lesser known cartridges that have, for one reason or another, generally escaped the public discussion and general nostalgia. This series highlights many of the relatively unknown, obscure, and unloved titles in the Nintendo Entertainment System's library. Some of these games are at best mediocre. Many are painfully bad, some of the worst NES games around. Most are hilarious for all the wrong reasons! Occasionally, OCCASIONALLY, a handful of them are actually good, borderline hidden gems.
While you won't find any of these on the NES Classic, some of these titles have managed to make their way onto the Nintendo Switch, so if you don't have an original Nintendo console or ROMs escape you ethically or technologically, there are several ways to play them.

It is a mystery to me why it’s not on Nintendo Switch, I would totally double dip just to have all my NES childhood in one portable system. Hopefully with Capcom and Disney working together again with the Marvel arcade collection their is hope!

It’s already been downloaded on my deck OLED. And I’ve been playing an unhealthy amount of the neo geo pocket color games…even docked to a 4K tv 😅.
The first DuckTales was one of my favorites. It’s a bummer that I missed the 2nd one.

I dont even remember what the original retail price was for DuckTales 2. I know these days loose it's $230.00 which is absurd.
For less than that price, I can get a everdrive n8 lol.

As much as I love this game, I don't understand why Capcom would've wanted to make this when they did. The game came out 3 years after the show ended... like what? 😅😂

Wish they'd made a Gummi Bears game too. Lil bears with super jump ability when drinking their gummiberry juice seems ideal for a platformer. :)

Probably didn't know the show was going to end. Given the popularity of the first game a sequel would have been inevitable. But maybe Capcom didn't predict how popular their game would become and soon afterwards greenlit the sequel. Or, their licence was about to expire and wanted to get their moneys worth, or retain the licence if it works like movies.
I really can't say. All I know is me and my best friend at the time use to watch reruns after school.

Dude, you weren't joking about Scrooge's jump swing. I used to rent this game as a kid and would always get stuck on the one spot you HAVE to use the jump swing. I bought a copy a couple years ago and had to look online to figure out what to do. Even now it still takes me like 6 or 7 tries to get the timing right. One of the only flaws in an otherwise perfect game. Thanks for reviewing it!
I somehow got better at it on this playthrough, but that one section I showed took 20 minutes of my life I’ll never get back
I think the games make good bookends. A back to back playthrough of each is a good way to kill an afternoon. Especially if you just bought a real copy of DT2 and are laid up in bed because you had to sell a kidney to get it.

@@BigOleWords I never managed to beat them but maybe one day I will 😁 The exploring was always fun, I had a great DuckTales game on my old 386 PC back in the day that was a lot of fun too, part of that game was where there was trivia and riddles and you played as Huey Duey and Luey, it was a fun game too. The NES games with Scrooge and his pogo stick were really good though 😁

I found this game in a sale bin at Blockbuster when i was a kid and enjoyed it more than the first game. I still have my copy and it's crazy it's rare.

I remember I played this NES game at my closest friends in my childhood.
The music, the upgradable walk stick and the shop after finishing one level are the good points I liked back in the 90's. 🙂
Although I didn't know about the alternative ending, I enjoyed to take down the bosses.

I remember playing Rescue Rangers on the NES when I was 5. I don't think my friend and I ever made it past the first level.

I'm glad this got so much praise. It seems like all the Capcom Disney sequels get a lot of flack as inferior.

The reason they kept on making more nes games well into the 90s is because of how much easier it was for more of the staff to make since the staff have more experience with the older hardware as well have official documents made by their own staff with some from other companies including disney. Also it's more profitable to still make games for the old NES since millions of people still had NES systems in their homes and in the 90s people still bought NES systems simply because NES was still being sold in game stores.
This is a detail I wish alot of people even you actually knew about.
Game companies have always still been supporting old systems for few extra years after they've been succeeded.
Video game systems even back then by past economy was still very expensive to own and the new systems like SNES and later PS1 were way more expensive than the NES, Gameboy, Sega Game Gear and Sega Master System.
Kids like me back in the day who didn't grow up in the 80s but were born in the 90s and got more into gaming in the mid to late 90s I was always excited to play these older games that I wasn't alive to play or too young to comprehend at the time so still having some fresh new games still coming out while still selling those systems was a great idea.
I wish more game devs these days made more simpler designed games like this which can be made in about 8 months to a year or 2 rather than just having these painful 5 to.... Oh god... 10 year dev times.
I'm glad I was able to grow up playing old 2D games of the 80s n 90s with a bunch of awesome games from 2000s and beyond but alot of modern games tho I do love them I hate how long they take to the point I prefer indies now.
Yet another awesome game that suffered from being released way too late in the NES' lifespan and being overlooked in favor of the 16-bit generation.
It baffles me that so many consider this to be inferior to the original.
Sure, the OG DuckTales is super-iconic, but you're 100% correct that DuckTales 2 improves upon it in every way imaginable.

This game was extremely rare at the time of its release, and I only experienced it because I was able to play it "anyway I can." However, I did manage to buy the harder to find Gameboy version at KB Toys a few years before it shuttered. And somehow, the Gameboy version was even MORE solid. It had a similar lay out and was mostly the same, but it added in a couple more mechanics and items that made me think the NES version was incomplete. The map pieces were exclusively hidden in the stages, as well as the extra hit points, so you didn't have to buy them. There were also 3 more treasure chest items that made the game even easier. A pair of X-Ray glasses that would show you were hidden items were, a chest that would reveal signs all over the stages to tell you where the exit was, and another chest that would tell you how many other treasure chests were in the level.
The X-ray specs would be incredibly useful!
I definitely have seen more gb versions of 2! Interesting that they are considered the harder to find ones
@@ggbetz When I bought the game, it was on clearance. I don't know if that was a tell. Then again, like 75% of KB Toys was always new stock clearance.
Played the hell out of both DuckTales games back then. I honestly liked the second one a bit better.

Ducktails Remastered is a Good Game it's a remake of the first Game. it would be a good way to play it.
Old man complaint time: Duck Tales 2 comes from a time when AAA developers cared enough to not only make a game that was like its cartoon counterpart but iterated on the formula from the first game. That's somewhat rare to see in today's AAA gaming world (not so much in the indie game market).
Beating Ducktales 1 was a major NES accomplishment as a kid. I gotta play this one but my skills are beyond diminished lol.

Capcom was recycling game engines back on the NES long before the Call of Duty series. Except when Capcom recycled game engines, they produced far better games that actually improved upon each game instead of being the same thing.
What a shame WayForward never got to remake this like the first game. 😢

I actually owned this one, got it at a bargain price back then! From what I've heard, the Game Boy port actually sold quite well, but of course, the NES game just came out way too late. I like it about as much as the original (Bermuda theme is one of my fav songs in Capcom Disney games, too). Can't go wrong with Capcom Disney games from that era.

I totally agree with you on this one. For me this is the superior Duck Tales game, it has lot of uses with the stick that it’s just more fun to play.

Like Chip n Dale 2, I had no idea back then that a Ducktales 2 existed, but I managed to grab the collection on Steam thanks to the Saturday Morning Disney Collection. Also, why play Ducktales if you're not going to unsolve a mystery, or rewrite history!?

I wasn't a fan of the first Duck Tales game and as a result I've never played the sequel. This video makes me want to try DT1 again so I can move on to DT2.

OK I'm actually playing this now. I remember seeing this launch and obviously never touching it back then. The first one was goat material, if 2 is an improvement on it, then I can't justify not playing it.

Ironically I never played the first one but Duck Tales 2 was a regular in rotation since my neighbor owned (owns) a copy and wasn't shy of letting me borrow it. Agree it's fun to play every now and then without too much hassle.

I got this on an emulator in my 20s and I was kinda sad that I didn't know this existed as kid. I never saw it as a rental or an option at the game counter. Thanx man good job

Quackshoot on the Sega Genesis is 99% a great Ducktales game. In fact it was supposed to be one but I guess Ducktales wasn’t that popular in Japan

I def didn't give this game attention as a kid, once the super nintendo hit, there was no going back.
I beat the Ducktales remake on the Wii U but the NES version is WAY harder!

I do think the original has more distinct/strong level themes and a better soundtrack, but I appreciate the puzzle solving moments and better final boss of the sequel. Shame the bonus stage is all reused assets, though.
Yeah the Basement level isn’t super engaging compared to the rest, but I still like it!
Clash at Demonhead was NES is Hidden Treasure. Even Uncle Scrooge couldn't Find it... All in All Duck Tales 1 & 2 are Awesome Games. I wish they put Uncle Scoorge and the Boys in Kingdom Hearts Saga, they could of use an Indiana Jones Theme for them...
Was never a huge fan of the Duck Tales games myself. They're fine. Just eh, the pogo gameplay just never really hooked me. But it was cool that this (and Chip N Dale 2) got a new audience with being easily playable on the Disney Afternoon Collection released a few years ago for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC. :)
I always thought activating the cane was a bit too involved in the original. Why do you have to imput two commands? Thankfully, in Duck Tales 2, you only have to press B to activate the cane.
@@megamanmarchek8293 Yes, Duck Tales Remastered lets you choose from the two of those control methods even though it's a remaster of the first game. :)

Agreed. DT2 is superior to the first in terms of depth and gameplay. It’s more of the same, but fleshed out. If only it had a comparable moon song…

Yeah most of the rare NES games were like 1991-1994. Not all of those are rare but like it hundred at least are pretty pricy these days including D2

Totally agree on its superiority to the original, though the music in the first is definitely better. The sequel themes are serviceable, but they seem bland even when not comparing. At least the "best" ending is much easier to get.

Just because it was a late release doesn't make it "hidden". It's pretty well known that disney made good nes games with good sequels. Unless you happen to be neighbours with a sponge?
I actually prefer the original. I didn't care so much for what you have to do to get the good ending.

Unlike Chip & Dale 2 which is inferior, Ducktales 2 is better than the first game IMO. Nostalgia is the only reason why people consider it a better game. The Bermuda stage is my favorite theme in the game. It has Iron Maiden Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner vibes.

everybody always hyping up DuckTales as a great game, i couldn't even beat the Amazon stage, enemies keep respawning Ninja Gaiden style, the goat in the snow level is impossible to jump onto or hit, yet it always hits me. i gave up on it.
i have yet to try DuckTales 2 though.

I don't think that DT2 is inferior to the original. This only issue is the release date. Today, it's easy to look back in time and be introduced to these games as you wish, but back in 1993 the Famicom was ancient history and even the Mega Drive was about to enter it's last real relevant year. Even the SFamicom were about to loose a loot of relevance as the fifth gen were about to enter the market.
We had a fourth gen that were very well served with Disney games on both main consoles and I dare to say that a good number of those were far superior than DT2.
To tell the truth, I don't think that DT1&2 were even the best Disney games on the third gen, as Master System's Castle of Ilusion and Famicom's Chip and Dale (1 and 2) plus Darkwing Duck were considerably better.
And, yes, I believe that DT2 could done better on the SNES.
