Every chemical has a different Infrared absorption signature based on its constituent molecules. Depending on what frequencies are absorbed determines which sensor and bandwidth are most effective at seeing the gas. It shows black because the FLIR sensor is actually detecting the reflected energy. If the gas absorbs the energy, there is nothing to reflect back, so it will appear black on the sensor. When they do "hotspot" measurements, they do an inverse image and apply false color intensities. That's how you get the intensity measurements on the VOC effluent.

No - the C2 or Cat S60 are not capable of seeing gas.
