I totally thought it was some type of sick rollercoaster ride that takes you up slowly and then once at the top it drops you full force. Like Hell nah. Still looks scary as hell

@@mikeo9219 Me too, for what it's worth, but Wikipedia suggests it tops out at two metres per second, which is very gentle jogging pace at fastest.

It really looks like a rollercoaster- ride and so I looked up for signs of a fast forward/ time lapse. At the end you can see people in time lapse mode. That was helpful. ;-)

Switzerland is such a gorgeous country!! I loved visiting Lucerne years ago. I would probably be panicking on this ride though.

I agree.I went up to Mont Blanc(the tallest mountain in the Alps) many years ago on a cable car for 20 people. .I couldn't do it now. Heights!!!

It is. For looks, it’s the best of Europe. For way of life, it’s a freaky little place. Borderline fascist in the sense that the conformity of behaviour is disturbing. If you want any kind of subversiveness, then Switzerland is just about the last country in Europe you want to go to.😳

Jackhammers, concrete, rails, timber for scaffolding under part of it, rubber for stopping blocks, brakes to come to a stop, granite to build both stations, wire to keep things lit and warm in winter, levels to keep it as smooth as possible and? IMAGINATION, PERSEVERENCE AND HARD WORK.

I thought it was going to let go, since they’re riding backwards at first. I thought, that’s got to be some brave people who want to go down those mountains real fast! Lol.. I love a good roller coaster but yeah, that’ll be too fast and dangerous but those views were amazing all around! I must go there with the hubby! 😁💖

It's time I took a ride on this! I've been on lots of similar lines in Switzerland but this is something else altogether in its rawness and openness. Maybe it's because it wasn't even built for the public but as a construction line for a hydro-electric project in the mountains above.

1. Brakes in the wheels(?) Which doesnt lwt you go the other way if it isnt intended
2. A maximum velocity(?) Which the wheels(?) can endure befire the lock kicks in
3. You see those things in the middle of the trail? Those are brakes too

If you get to PalmSprings,CA ride the tram up to top of the mountain. Its fun but kinda scary thinking one continuous cable runs the whole thing.
Glad i have been there be4 Covid, the lake and falls on top even more spectacular!

I know it has a lot of redundancies and it would probably never happen but my first thought was what a shrieking, hundred mile an hour, king-hell, death-ride it would be if the brakes failed and sprung loose in that ride...

@@Monorail-Beyond-the-Veil When you are there as a tourist, it's very difficult to come into contact with Swiss. Swiss live very much on their own.
@@bartobruintjes7056 I can see how that could be true because most native people don’t go to the same places as tourists.
You just made my day. I've lived here for 11 years (I was born with a Swiss name so thought I'd feel at home here) and don't go out because the locals just aren't normal for me. I even spoke with my psychiatrist about it in the last few days and she said, yes, we Germans feel the same, it doesn't feel normal (it wasn't a judgement, it was a fact). The lack of emotions, the formality, the cold, calculating, always polite, always 'fine' - it feels like talking with AI. The exceptions are so rare you'd think they don't exist (I have less than 5 people I can name).
I've tried to be warm, open, friendly, caring and been traumatised terribly at the lack of reciprocity/lack of relatability/connection. Once I feel stronger I'll go out and see more nature (reason I'm watching this video - it's on the wishlist), but for now, I love love love my little island.
Come visit and bring some normal!! (please...!)

These are climbers on the way downhill, there are some popular routes near the track, for example Fair Hands Line
