I feel like the chattiness is part of the show's charm, personally.
It might also be worth noting that this train adventure was largely unplanned. Like, only Shizuru was actually _intending_ on going to Ikebukuro; the other three just kinda jumped on board at the last second on the spur of the moment. It wouldn't surprise me if their nonstop bickering was at least partially a defense mechanism, to feel like they're still in control of _something_ as it becomes increasingly clear that they might've bitten off more than they can chew and can't go back anymore.
it's also a great way to showcase their different characters... and aren't many middle school girls uncontrollably and endlessly chatty? it's also mostly the gyaru making dumb remarks, getting called out by the tiny one, then them getting into some dumb fight, which drags the "mom" girl to break them up.
This is my current favourite anime of the season. I'm not at all bothered by the two chatterbox characters. They have opposing personalities and some teenagers are just like that.
Anyone else feel for Akira with the mushroom?
The other girls got to experience the bliss of the mushrooms and she had to save them, and they were talking about how nice it felt and akira felt guilty cause she had one. Idk why but it just hit me different, cause you could say the mushroom is like alcohol or another substance that takes away from your life but feels good. I was stressed out cause I didn’t want her to die 😭
I watched this show from Day One. Shows like this normally follow 1 of 2 paths -
1) They can either be the weirdest, yet most interesting series in years
or
2) They can end up like "Wonder Egg Priority", and go off the rails
Off the rails. Yes, that was on purpose. Sue me.
That almost happened on episode 2, but instead the rails just got entirely destroyed.
still so mad about wonder egg. It was one of the best and most interesting animes I've seen... then the ending crashed...
@@Azure_Sky222 - Off the rails.
@@UsaraDark The rails didn't actually break as far as we know. They only bent all over the place. If they did break, then the morse code communication wouldn't be possible
By far the most interesting and best anime of the season, so far. Though, I also fell in love with Jellyfish can't swim in the night! That will totally slip under a lot of peoples radar.
this is one of the best and strangest anime i have EVER watched in a long time.... AND NO ONE WILL WATCH IT.
Personally I think the dialog and the constant chattering is what's going to make this show one of my favorites this season. As for the characters being in awe of the outside only to immediately go back to chattering nonsense, I think it makes sense seeing as they are children. So, I feel like the dialog is going to make or break the show for some people if it keeps up. I do think it will calm down though, because it wasn't as chattery in episode one as in episode two, which makes sense because in episode two they only had each to talk to and didn't really have to worry about or do anything unlike episode one and seemingly with episode two jow that they are in a new town with new people.
This.
I'm surprised that people come expecting cute girls show would be bothered by this. I've seen many cute girls show did this, but the conversation doesn't seems as natural as this. It feels like the kind of conversation you would have with your buddies. The fact that they're talking super fast is making it better because that's how usually japanese talks.
Yeah I think the chatter makes it feel genuine.
The weirdness of this odd apocalypse story makes this story more interesting. Most train animes I have seen are embedded tourist trap advertisements - so I am expecting future episodes to have wonderfully rendered scenic backgrounds
This show is crazy and I'm super interested to see what's next.
I really loved the first episode too. I love manzai. I use to watch manzai on TV and live shows with my grandparents growing up. This can be the sleeper gem of the season or it can fall flat.
This sounds like a lot of fun, I’ll add it to my list, hopefully get to it at some point.
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the map. All the images show the future 30 stations.
THIS ANIME IS SOO GOOD, PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW~!
You had me at “mushrooms”. 😂
But, seriously, this show wasn’t anywhere near my radar, but I’ll definitely give it a shot now.
Definitely one of three anime I watched this season, and I love it so much!
I really loving this one so far your review is really spot on with everything. Because it felt like I said nearly the same to a friend of mine that I was describing this show lol. I even mentioned the creators where on mushrooms
I swear I'm not listening in on your conversations.......
Decided to try to do episode-by-episode average scoring this season and this is now my highest scoring show of spring 2024
I’ve already watched the first two episodes and what were they smoking when they made this and can I have some because this show is downright enjoyable
I personally have always loved shows with fast paced chattering like; The Monogatari Series, Saiki Kusuo, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei or Occultic Nice.
A place further than the universe + wonder egg priority
Hehe, Odd Taxi and Heavenly Delusion. Girls Und Panzer and Girls Last Tour.
So it's a Monogatari like conversations with Cute Girls going on Bizarre Train Trips.
finally... the long-awaited prequel to ODDTAXI!
Haha
The third episode was kind of dark. Loving it.
This reminded me of school - live that started all normal as anime progress got darker . I hope this anime gets better and we can get to seeing more strange city and people .
I’m interested to see how they plan to pace out the season. Episode 2 ends with them reaching stop 1 / 30 on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line.
So either: Skipping stops, rushing through multiple in an episode, or just never arriving in Ikebukuro.
First option seems the most likely.
Most likely skips. Either that or they may gauge interest and have a point where they can skip or not.
just run for 48 episodes smh
@@abarette_ The most unlikely of timelines. But I mean… If they had the nerve to do that, I’d be so down.
@@Manyime1 haha that's not close to being an option, I was joking. But really you would need to budget another cour in order to not have a "rushing through the stops" in like episode 8
@@abarette_ Lol I know, I know. It’s only listed for 12 eps and is not something I would expect more than one cour. I just like entertaining the thought of how crazy it would be if they actually did something like that.
My bet is they’ll just skip most of the stops anyways.
This, Jellyfish and Girls Band Cry are my top3 new show this season so far!
Jellyfish is amazing, still need to watch band cry!
This and Jellyfish look super interesting. Very chatty, though. Hopefully they'll be able to pull it off and not lose steam as the show progresses.
Jellyfish is sooooo good!
This is such a great series, and I hope it can maintain the quality through the remainder of the season. It's one of three new series I'm enjoying, the other two being the "Spice And Wolf" remake and "Tonari no Youkai-san." That last one is slipping under a lot of radars and I'd love to see it get more attention.
As a side note: The total number of months a person has to age before the change in this world is 255, which is the largest number you can express in binary with eight digits, AKA one byte of data. So it sounds like they reach their rollover point in thisa 7G network, run into a buffer overrun error, and get reset as something else. Why months? Because cell phone billing is monthly. (Yeah, the show's hitting my inner geek buttons and pushing them hard enough to embed into the motherboard...)
This is interesting note, i always wondered why they added extra three months after 21
Have you seen Sony Boy? This series reminds me of it.
Don't remind me of sonny boy lol... (they struck my channel..so I deleted all my vids on it)
I walked in to see my bf watching this the other day and was so confused. He said it's something about 7G? 😂
I definitely going to check this out!
lol yes think they were high when they wrote this but loving this anime.
i havent seen a lot of anime that has this style of dialog but a couple came into my head eccentric family and tatami galaxy, both was kind on this pacing if not faster. on a personal note i really like this style of dialog, in fact the dialog is what i think is the strongest point for me. but im also a sucker for kansai culture.
i also realize that this show, in term of tone, is exact opposite of Frieren
Your main complaint about the constant talking, was exactly how I felt. Sometimes it feels like they forgot to let the next character NOT talk for a moment, after one character said whatever needed to be said. Like there is this apparent lack of a pause between "breaths". Other than that, I'm on board the train (har-har) for this wild ride. I went into this not knowing about the animals aspect (dunno if that was even teased though?), it COMPLETELY caught me off guard.
Had the same reaction. Almost didn't put this one on my queue, but I am now in for the ride. Hope it doesn't end like WEP.
lol, I seemed to remember thinking at some point "breeeeaaath..."
Episode 3: anyone say mushroom??
I love the constant bikkering. It's fun and cozy. But I guess everyone got different opinions.
I would not be surprised at all if it would start to pull a Made In Abyss a few episodes in. 😏
You've pique my interest. I will add this into my list
Cool premise. Looks great. The world and minor characters are intriguing. Just not sure I want to spend much time around these MCs.
I am a train enthusiast, so I am auto-watching this and Shinkalion.
Wow! Spot-on review. My exact reaction to the first two episodes of The Train to the End of the World. Great theory that they brought in a basket of mushrooms, and it all started from there. Really interesting animation, an intriguing journey, excellent character designs. but too much talking. This one is either going to be a train wreck or the Big Hit of the Spring season. That map from the swan guy looks to be real as the next stop of mushroom people is on it.
My "problem" with it is the clue that duckman gave them. There's around 30 "stops", first one being animals and the second is mushroom.
Are they going to fit 30 stops in 12 episode series?
Gauge interest and decide later to do multi cour??
Similar premise to “School Life”.
My enjoyment was spoiled when I heard the news that the production might be in trouble.
Why would that ruin what you've already seen? It should only affect what is to come, if it even does, if it's even the truth. To me the comment should be, "Our enjoyment might be spoiled with rumored production issues".
I've heard that there was a mistake in delivery of the art for episode 4, but nothing more than that.
like an idiot i just watched episode 2 first and watched episode 1 as a flashback... story telling whiplash lmao
I'm not sure if this one is for me. I need more substance and emotion from the characters and more world building in a show that has so much devastation. Like I don't want this to be a "happy" show, billions of people are dead right? Not sure I can enjoy a show of giggle girls walking through towns of grotesque petrified mushroom people.
Like walking through a town from The Last of Us and just making ambivalent small talk while walking over the loss of life. Or like if you took that movie Annihilation and had a cast of bubbly little girls derp their way through it with bad anime plot armor.
Is my impression of the show more or less accurate or am I way off?
I love the contrast. Being sad in postapocalyptic world is kinda double the same thing. This show actually portrays that even after the end there is still place for a laugh and other emotions.
That's the only problem you found?......
This show was too ridiculous for me xd
Though this isn't my favorite new anime of the Spring 2024 season, I think it has been really good so far. Considering the age of the passengers, I'm a little fearful of plot armor preventing anyone from getting hurt but the tsunami in the 2nd episode has me hopeful that at least it will continue to seem like there's some stakes and that it's not just a fever dream.
