Wow, this brings back memories. When we were young back in the 1940's and 50's, we never liked dumplings made with suet so our mum made them with this recipe but instead of using the melted butter she used to rub the butter into the flour (short crust pastry method) and then add the liquid, (your way is much easier when using melted butter). When I married in the late 1960's I carried on making the dumplings the same way as my mum had so thank you very much for taking me back in time. Such a small thing has brought back so many memories of when we were young, in fact your video brought tears to my eyes. I am now 80 and every single member of my past family are no longer here. I love watching all your videos so thank you very much. Mum also used to use the same method when making savoury puddings.
Wonderful Barney. the simple things in life were the best.
❤
BIG AL in wigan , love all your videos an the great banter , after working for HEINZ for 41 yrs I loved the BIG SOUP hack you did for the 5 minute no suet dumplings vid ….❤
Another sensible, every-day cooking idea from Martin & Sharon👍. Much more practical than fancy chef recipes. You should have your own TV series😂.
I made dumplings with stork and a little oil over a year ago they were light and amazing because I had no suit! Glad you done this vid.
I have always used this recipe for dumplings. Got it from my mum. I put a pinch of mixed herbs or parsley in mine. Surprised to see it worked in cold liquid - I always added the to really hot stews! Another thing learned from you both. Now I can’t wait for S and K pudding!
Same here, I sometimes use self raising flour same results lot cheaper than suet, I think its a northern thing.
Yes I do too and add some baking powder to it. (My mum called them doughballs because she said they weren’t real suet dumplings)
No it's a working class thing I reckon@@kevb948
I’m glad you’ve gone back to the easy, quick, traditional meals. It’s the hints and tips which make all the difference. Casserole season is almost upon us so this is a perfectly timed ‘no suet dumpling’ idea. Thank you both. X
I always remember the Big Soup cans being bigger than normal cans. As with everything else they have got smaller but the price has risen🤬
Genuinely surprised that dumplings without suet is a thing. Thanks for sharing this and also to the person who suggested it to you as well.
Our pleasure!
Only ever made dumplings with suet but after watching your video definitely will be giving yours a go. Have a great holiday 😊
5 mins to cook is what amazed me , I mean 5 mins !! That's really amazing for a quick meal if you've been working and just want something quick but tasty .I've been using Tescos own brand suet in little bag instead of box about £1.40, it's a bit cheaper and you get a few lots out of it.
A very good video with lots of helpful tips eg maggi seasoning , I must buy some, great as always 👍
Briliant, thank you. I would never have worked out the dry ingredients, let alone the milk and butter!
No scraping mums rice pudding off the ceiling
in texas and other areas of the american south chicken and dumplings the dumplings often use similar receipes
I discovered your channel yesterday and am delighted. I watch all the time. I have a Ninja 15in1 myself, so your recipes and tips are very helpful.
Cheers to you guys, I look forward to every video, you do a great job.
Welcome aboard!
Thanks, can't get bags of suet now in Ontario Canada .
Just the ticket now. I have always made dump a lumps like this and didn't know the traditional way was with suet and they have always been fab. Love a bit of Maggi too, a great addition. Keep warm you two.
I do love them big soups, and thats a good idea of having the dumplings with it, well done 👍👍
Since watching your channel, I use Maggi's seasoning all the time, it's absolutely gorgeous. Those dumplings looked good 👍😊
Sharon's Dumplings looked wonderful,,, mmmmmm that was quick and easy, well done.
Brilliant idea about the dumplings.
That looks so simple and easy and delicious thank you for sharing watching from South Africa
Brilliant again guys. I love dumplings but can't be bothered to make them.
Spectacular stuff.
Hi guys I be made these for years ,when our children were young in the 90s ,money was short great f illers.and delicious 😋
3 tins oxtail and dumps. lol yum
That looked very nice for dumplings. A big savings.
OMG!love dumplings,they look yummie!😋
Looked fantastic
Of course Maggi seasoning's good. It's got MSG in it.... everything's better with MSG👍
I use Selff Raising flour, parsley flakes with butter and water they are Chinese Dumplings yummy
I cannot wait to try the no-suet puddings. Thx guys, greta as always. Luv ya both xx
Thanks so much! The recipe booklet that came with my Cosori was not very helpful! You guys are teaching us how. Be well and stay safe!
what an easy lunch, just bought maggi seasoning today, found it at tesco, i cant believe it only took 5 mins to cook ,very easy on a busy day
Waitrose sells it too.
Good recipe . I'm veggie and used to make my dumplings with frozen butter that I grated. The baking powder wasn't in my recipe so will try this. Big soup chunky veg is a regular for me. With a bit of mash and dumplings makes a great meal. That looked lovely. It's also popular with the kids
Sounds great!
yep ive used the big soups for years as a stew over yorkshire puddings. i add bit of gravy granules or stock cube . unfortunately they have doubled in price and are now too expensive 🥲. another great video . have a good week❤❤
I like them finished off in the oven to make the top likes roast potato will now try them in the air fryer. Will try this but you can buy dumpling mix in box makes 4 used to be £79 p just over £1 now they do a batter mix they are lovely I am very fussy about quality.Yellow box called Goldenfry est 1958.The dumpling mix is fantastic highly recommend.
They bought dumpling mix last time because of the cost of suet😊
My mum used to use lard instead of suet. It used to be cheap but probably isn't now.
Definitely going to try them now
Definitely going to try them dumps Sharon, thanks for that.Xx
You are so welcome
That is a fantastic meal.
Thats a Great meal.... Love those dumplings!! Thanks Both xx
Ooooooooooooh! that looks fantastic.
1 pound of basic steak strips 🥩 and brown stock and 1 can tribute alcohol and salt and pepper with veg and dumplings us all in 1 pot lest then a £5 for it all and you get 5 portions of food but it's all down to taste and if you not got a pressure cooker then slow cook just as good for about 3 ours but can strew are good for quck food keep up good videos
That looks the absolute nut's 👍🏻👍🏻 Cracking one Martin and Mrs B 😍
Thanks 👍
Might just try that sharon .I'm all for a quick meal thx for sharing ❤
I have been making dumplings this way for many years after I found it in a very old cookbook and I think it’s the best way
Spot on Martin and Sharon that looked awesome 👍👍👍👍
What a good idea so simple going to try this😊
Thank you for all you do on your channels . I’m waiting for my Cosori air fryer oven to arrive after watching you use it .
Sounds great!
Wow that looks amazing guys xx
I always do mine like this but with parsley and mustard as well, really nice!
I busy pressure cooking my first ever beef stew with dumplings in my Cosori pressure cooker as we speak. Cheers as always for the inspiration :)
Hope you enjoy
@@butlersempire Thanks, it was really nice, I need to work on my thickening method but it tasted great. Cheers as always.
Thanks for this recipe! Try placing a tea towel over the vent while releasing the pressure to stop splattering and wet steam going everywhere! Love your videos ❤
It is dangerous to block the vent in this way.
love it
nice tasty evening meal with dumplings 😊
Love your recipes as they are so simple but heart warming. You two are homemade geniuses 🎉❤. Enjoy your hols and put your feet up so deserved x Rosey
Thank you so much Rosey.
Looks very tasty. Giving that a go ❤
Definitely trying out this recipe. Bought a dumpling packet mix last week and it was rubbish! Also bought my first bottle of Maggi seasoning, thanks to you, and I'm totally in love!😘😘😘😘
We have used Maggie for years it goes with so many things, this was my recipe for the dumplings I much prefer them to suet dumplings as so much lighter and fluffier I also add so parsley into the mix
I have just ordered my Cosori Pressure Cooker from Amazon after watching your videos.Thank you Martin and Sharon for your recipes.I look forward to watching more in the future.
Hope you enjoy
I'm thinking of buying a one as well. I'm terrified of the original pressure cookers but that cosori looks safe and sound
Thanks for sharing guys!!❤
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant, am going to try this recipe for dumplings, as i love them in a stew.
Hope you enjoy
Loved this Shazz, i remember doing those dumplings years ago with butter when i had no suet, but i rubbed the butter in like breadcrumbs, your way is easier well done xxx
Gosh, I have only used suet, but I will try your recipe. So impressed.
We know Martin ☺️
My family call this a cobbler but with proper stew
Brilliant
That looks ace I think I will save up for one of those pressure cookers would be ideal for me great recipe will definitely try it .
They are lovely I made these years ago
Those dumplings look absolutely delicious..i used to be scared of the old pressure cookers.but seeing your new pressure cooker has changed my mind,i might buy one myself.love to you both and family members.❤x
Been doing dumplings with butter for last 15 years lol 💗
I've make dumplings like that a lot when I don't have suet they are just as nice, luv dumplings in a stew 😋 ❤
Love you too, ive learned a lot from you sharon, keep it coming please xx
Wow thanks for trying my dumpling recipe I prefer them so much more than sure ones as so much lighter and what a great idea to use the big soups I will be doing this to , can’t wait for your Greece holiday
You are so welcome!
Oh my goodness, we’re just in Spain and its so hot, wifi and signal intermittent and I believe the uk weather is horrid but on the plus side I can catch up with your vids next week, they sound delish as always, xx
Just made it but with the chicken and leek soup then put it in a giant Yorkshire pudding!!! Loved it!!
We have a family member who runs a very busy local cafe. They always make their dumplings this way but oven cook them. Needless to say, very popular.
You really are tempting me to buy one of those pressure cookers, I have the Amazon Basics stove top pressure cooker which is great but I fancy the all singing all dancing Cosori 🤣. Another great little video, thanks so much.
Me too and that little oven as well
Going to give this ago save money on the suet, well done Sharon your a genius. Can't wait for the holiday ones garuanteed a laugh.🥰
Well that's made me hungry now lol.
This looks so good! Another great meal idea, thanks guys. Also less calories than using suet too 🙂 xx
My Nan had one of those old types of pressure cooker with the little black knob on the top and it used to scare the be-jesus out of me
Yes, My mum had one too in the 70's.
Great video that's made me hungry
Hiya Martin ans Sharon, omg how good is that,ha love it n yes will try...thanks a lot, take care now xx
You are so welcome
Amazing what a quick winter meal for anyone getting in from work or whatever to warm them up My mum ended up with beetroot juice all over her ceiling from using a pressure cooker lol. I’ve always stayed away from them but you are making me like them. Thanks take care
My mum's pressure cooker did the same back in the 50's and 60's, but she was cooking dried peas and they exploded all over the kitchen ceiling. I have never touched a pressure cooker since but the one Sharon and Martin use looks so easy.
I agree@@barneybuster8915
First it was accusations of SIMPLE FOOD 😁 and now CHEATING 😳, what’s going on at Butler’s Empire Mansion ? we need a public enquiry for sure 😂, Martin you can’t keep things in the closet for ever 😁. Sharon’s dumplings are the best for sure or so I’ve been told , by Martin of course 😁👍🏻.
Hi Martin and Sharon, another good video. Yes the price of suet is shocking, the last time i went to get some i just bought the packet mix instead. I used to have an electric pressure cooker years ago and did mainly veg in it. I always kept it clean but the seal always smelt of cooking so i threw it out. I'm thinking about getting the cosori one now as it's very handy
My mum always made dumplings without suet , so I just followed her recipe 😊
Thanks definitely try my dear mum used make lovley dumplings,i cheat with packet s ,good tips
Have an amazing holiday in Rhodes, I live in Athens so if you ever need info or anything else just ask!!!XXX
Realy real people❤
My wife has a cheat for chicken and dumplings she cuts flour tortillas in half then into strips about 2 inches wide and dumps them in the pot they soak up the broth yummy
Well I never . I love dumplings and always buy suet. I’m definitely going to definitely going to try doing them your way . Thanks guys.👏👏❤️❤️😘😘🙏🏼🙏🏼
Awww my 2 little dumplings !!! Another tasty and cheap meal, glad you showed us the dumplings they looked fab, really don't know what I will do when you go on holiday I will be starving !!!! Thinking of getting the pressure cooker, do they only do one size cause it's just little old me when I cook, although when the fam descend it would be fab, thanks Shaz n Mart love you more 👍😁❤
Brilliant idea using butter instead of suet. I'm sure it must be better for you as this is less fat than suet. Will definitely be using this method next time thank you xx
😮.
I think that I could manage that.👍🙏
What a quick meal,love dumplings😂❤😂❤
Hello again Sharon and Martin just watched your nine suet dumpling recipe I love them but your so right the price of suet is awful so to substitute the melted butter a great idea so now the weather is changing time for stew and dumplings thank you guys
After seeing you use Maggie got some from sainsburys really liked it
soup isn't cheep anymore either but i love dumps
Always used butter but not melted rub into flour then water salt pepper and any fresh herbs you fancy , light and fluffy
You can get magies seasoning from the co-op love the dumplings xx
