Wow, this brings back memories. When we were young back in the 1940's and 50's, we never liked dumplings made with suet so our mum made them with this recipe but instead of using the melted butter she used to rub the butter into the flour (short crust pastry method) and then add the liquid, (your way is much easier when using melted butter). When I married in the late 1960's I carried on making the dumplings the same way as my mum had so thank you very much for taking me back in time. Such a small thing has brought back so many memories of when we were young, in fact your video brought tears to my eyes. I am now 80 and every single member of my past family are no longer here. I love watching all your videos so thank you very much. Mum also used to use the same method when making savoury puddings.

I have always used this recipe for dumplings. Got it from my mum. I put a pinch of mixed herbs or parsley in mine. Surprised to see it worked in cold liquid - I always added the to really hot stews! Another thing learned from you both. Now I can’t wait for S and K pudding!

Same here, I sometimes use self raising flour same results lot cheaper than suet, I think its a northern thing.

Yes I do too and add some baking powder to it. (My mum called them doughballs because she said they weren’t real suet dumplings)

5 mins to cook is what amazed me , I mean 5 mins !! That's really amazing for a quick meal if you've been working and just want something quick but tasty .I've been using Tescos own brand suet in little bag instead of box about £1.40, it's a bit cheaper and you get a few lots out of it.
A very good video with lots of helpful tips eg maggi seasoning , I must buy some, great as always 👍

Good recipe . I'm veggie and used to make my dumplings with frozen butter that I grated. The baking powder wasn't in my recipe so will try this. Big soup chunky veg is a regular for me. With a bit of mash and dumplings makes a great meal. That looked lovely. It's also popular with the kids

Brilliant idea using butter instead of suet. I'm sure it must be better for you as this is less fat than suet. Will definitely be using this method next time thank you xx

Hello again Sharon and Martin just watched your nine suet dumpling recipe I love them but your so right the price of suet is awful so to substitute the melted butter a great idea so now the weather is changing time for stew and dumplings thank you guys
