My heart goes out to you all. I am going to show my age now. Back in 1985 I can remember seeing a tractor baling in September using the split breaks to steer in the wet . The bales were then bagged as wrapping was new then. Good luck.😊
in 1985 we made our hay first week of September was rotten on bottom before even cut but all baled into small bales dry but rubbish ,then straight into harvest ,if it went in combine and straw came out other end we went ,although one afternoon it looked a bit wet in tank so I stopped and tested with mosture meter ,it was 40% decided to stop ,most went through drier twice some three times
Similar experience about 20 years or so ago, weather was awful all summer. I was wrapping bales, harvester and trailers struggled to travel in fields so most silage ended up being baled and wrapped. I worked 8 weeks straight without a day off, some of those weeks were 100+ hours. On one occasion I had to get towed INTO a field to wrap the bales 😅. Fun times!!!
Hello everyone happy cow Tuesday. Tom, you’re doing everything you can. We understand that the weather gets you behind and you gotta make sure the farm is taken care of so please don’t stress about missing a video here there those of us could’ve been here for a while and any real farmer or farmer interested person totally understands. Be well be.You
Weather every where has been crazy but the work has to be done and you need to save what you can and worry about the other things later. Love your videos Tom and the realities of real farming. Thank you for all your hard work. ❤❤
my fields are a lot wetter and when i did silage i managed to get on my fields with a 15t hay trailer but i do have a 650 hp tractor pulling the trailer
Hi Tom great to see you keeping going, it was wet it will come good, nice to see dad and people come up to help, land will dry out, keep up the good work,
That is why you have to respect to the farmers out there on why they complain about the weather all the time. I salute to you Tom, keep doing what you do best 🫡 💪
To say that this year is challenging is an understatement. Even though it is so wet, you really have no choice but to follow the process through to the end and that in turn, then causes more problems by churning up the field. It can't be helped of course. That is where those bales forks on the front and rear, really came in useful in minimizing the inevitable damage. I really feel for you all - especially for my brother who is in the same situation as everyone else.
I don’t think some people my realise just how wet it as been till seeing your videos Tom well done on your videos and keeping everything runing when things are tough make sure you look after yourself 👍
Hi Tom pemberton we were bailing ourselves tom cover Ur sillage bales with white paint but a cross on the bales keeps the birds away from them it's a fast job
My self and the wife called in at your farm on the weekend. We got 2 stacks and they were amazing. Keep up the great work we will definitely be back again 👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻
With a good chain harrowing both ways and the use of some Cambridge rolls that field will be back to normal as this season reminds me of 1993 when it was as wet as this year Tom 😊
I just want to say, great job working through difficulties. I mean there’s were some garbage bales but you have some good silage bales. The field can be repaired. Smart to get at it when it wet enough to move but not boggy. Get vids out when you can cause the real life comes first ❤ I want those bale carriers!
You could sell the mud as mud packs for face treatments All joking aside when I was in Royal Navy in 1970s I was in the fleet air arm I used to move helicopters with a big yellow Fordson 2000 they are sort of like moving four wheel trailers with a steering axle at the front we only towed them for longer distances much easier to push them .
Those roots looks fun to work out. I can definitely say that, after all, I had to do that fun work many time. You know how fun it will be when the combine header has water cooling from the water on the field. 😅But that's farming. If every year is perfect, it would be too boring. :D
Jeez Tom, I remember trying to get siloing done near Grange over Sands in the nineties. Every year the rainfall seemed to increase. Sold up and moved to Canada in 2000. The few times I’ve been back the years since must have been drier because the people who bought the farm have generally managed to get done without marking the fields too badly. I guess you wouldn’t object to a drought year for a change?
The weather...... 😮😢 I watch a horse channel Black Horses Friesians. You can imagine how BAD the fields were after winter with horses.Tracey uses an ancient harrowing machine and Super Seed grass. They've come lovely.

Now that the field is a complete mess. With tyre tracks. I would have ploughed it over and reseeded it. But giving the time of month, it guessing that’s not possible. but the state of the field is something to consider that option. As you’ve already created trenches. Lol
City dweller so please excuse if this is a stupid question ... for the fields that have been rutted this year, do you roll and seed or have to plow and reseed?
Oh gosh. The field! Yikes. Will you have to go back and fix it once it dries a little? I’m assuming yes because the ruts will trap water, but I’m not a farmer so I don’t know.
Great video Tom you guys did struggle with the bailing have you thought of running,a power harrow over the bad bits in the field Olly did, it on some bad patches a while ago 👍👍
The weather is weird this year. Do you have the old wives tale too in the UK about leap years, uncharacteristic weather and bad harvests? I am living in Portugal in Alentejo central, where it's usually so hot that by July everything is barren (except for evergreen trees) and lots of fields still have a greenish hue instead of the sun bleeched gold.
all that rain is a pain it seems, we don't tear up our fields, if it's too wet we wait a day or two.......as wet as that is won't wrapping it rot it? ........disc and replant when it dries out
What stops the first bale being scratched or plastic torn when loading the second bale? We had one on demo but it was hydraulic assisted on the first bale to lift it up so it doesn’t tear the plastic/ bale when you go load the second.
To stop the plastic being torn on the first bale you have to set the first bale in nice and tight beside the second bale then pull your tractor forward and line your bale lifter up to lift the two bales at once. Hope it helps
I know you need feed for the cows. I have a question, if you bought feed for the cows would the cost not work out to about the same with what the cost is going to be to repair the fields that have been destroyed? Serious question.

Cracking video. Pair the bales up then lift them. Means you wouldn't grab any earth. The Fleming bale handlers are really good.
