NOW PLAYING!
Horthy was based; a shame history does not see it that way, and today’s generation is too naive to educate themselves properly.
He was in the end, right. His hope lied with the western Allies with which he was able to survive with, even if Hungary did not.
Kingdom of Hungary with Regent Admiral Miklos Horthy
Great Reggent Horthy
Horthy was a great leader, the hero of WW1. Spoke some five - six languages fluently, a sportsman. Who wanted a duel with Masaryk, and attached to the old customs.
Horthy was not fascist
Horthy was a great leader

The story of Miklós Horthy is one of very controversial and contradictory decisions. In Horthy's rise to power, yes many died and he advocated many strongman policies and voiced many antisemitic beliefs. However in the end, he was forced to choose between Hitler's regime (one which he vocally detested on several occasions) and letting Hungary get torn appart, he chose the former. He never wanted war for Hungary, he even betrayed his oath to Karl I of Austria because he knew the allies would quickly destroy Hungary if he was restored to the throne. Horthy was a nationalist who wanted to hold on to power, yes- but at the earliest opportunity, he tried to pursue peace, which not only turned his most ardent supporters against him, but also Germany itself. It's ironic he's a saint for many modern Hungarian right wingers and neo-nazis considering he didn't really want to even lead in the first place.
If horthy led Karl back to his throne mabey WW2 didn't happend...
Honestly, they should make a whole movie about Horthy. VERY complicated historical figure. Obviously, a villain though.
