@MrBlpete Are you saying the decision with him, the team and coaches was he would play the first half and then sit, regardless of if he reached his record? Or he would sit down ounce he reached his record regardless of when it was or if they were ahead? If what happened was preplanned, they (the team) were good with it, then that's what matters. Everyone complaining are either dumb or hypocrites. I commend Travis and Shadeur for playing their entire games however I will not condemn someone who made a smart decision and chose not to play or to leave early. Anything could have happened, there was no reason to risk your future in a game that virtually means nothing towards your future. The bowl game is mostly for those not going into the draft. You’ve gotta put yourself first in life. He didn’t betray anybody. He simply put himself first, I’m sure his teammates don’t feel any way towards his actions as they understand why he did it in his position.
The Miami Ducks are the most unserious program in college football, and this is just Exhibit A. You opt out before the game starts, not at halftime when up by three. To spend three weeks running your mouth about how you want to finish what you started, only play the first half just to get the touchdown record, take yourself out of the game, and not have enough of an inner competitor in you to take the field with the game on the line for the last drive of the season with all of your teammates depending on you? UNREAL. As for being pre-planned, then that's Mario Cristobal's fault. Shane Beamer doesn't let anybody in the transfer portal play, except for Robby Ashford for some reason, and I'm not saying that guys in the portal shouldn't be allowed to play, but as a coach the guy either is available for the entire game or doesn't make the trip. Shoutout to Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter by the way for playing all but the last 2 minutes of a blowout loss that was over at halftime.
He was down to risk getting hurt long enough to get his shiny record. If he completely sat the game nobody would care. He actively chose to chase records over winning a bowl game for his team.
A Tennessee player did the same thing the Arkansas player did to Brock Bowers last season after his ankle surgery. No flag, no repercussions. It’s the only time Bowers lost his cool in the three years he was with us. Intentionally trying to injure another player is assault and should be treated as such. If we penalize for targeting to protect players from injury, how can this be allowed? Also agree 100% that what Cam Ward did was classless and unacceptable. Opt out or play for your teammates. People will make every excuse in the world to justify his actions, but at the end of the day, you NEVER quit on your team. All these guys who enter the transfer portal before bowl season ends are also kinda the same way if the team is bowl eligible. Plus, if someone has transferred multiple times as Ward did, that's a whole different mess. If it were me, if I am going to play, I want to play and lead my team to victory. There is no doubt in my mind that Ward would have been able to keep them in the game and win if he had not just abandoned his team like he did. Hell, he was even suited up and staying warm as though he was going to play. This sure shows you the type of player he is going to be and the type of person he is. Players like Travis Hunter and Shedeur who could have easily opted out played in their bowl game and didnt give up on their team. I get that they have the coach there who helped create the team they wanted to play on, but that should not matter in my opinion. Never quit on your team and finish what you start
Colorado lost by like 22 and only scored 14. That didn’t help their draft stock with that performance but at least they got their asses handed to them thoroughly, in the whatcha call bowl.
A lot of people are taking this thing out of context. Cam Ward was asked about that and he was reluctant to answer, usually when a player does that the coach had something to do with it. And the coach pulled a good amount of his starters out of the game in the second half. If Cam Ward is a quitter why the hell would he play the game to begin with? It’s pretty obvious the coach had no plans on playing him in the second half.
With the crazy NIL and benefits college players receive now to play. Their contracts should include requirements to play ALL games if not injured. Look at Colorado and both Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter playing vs BYU in a blowout loss to finish out their college careers... The direction college football is heading is pathetic. If it continues down this road, fans will walk away and viewership will decrease.
All NFL players need to play in all preseason games as well? Also no one should never miss a day of work at their jobs regardless if it doesn’t benefit them to work that day!
I doubt any single player in cf could even survive 5 seconds in a battle of Roman times...they'd all leave for the portal and let the rest of their army get slaughtered😮
Matt, one of the wonderful things about a team sport is that each person should believe in putting the team ahead of self. All the good teams support this value system and talk about the beauty of it. They talk about "loving" each other, which means you give of yourself, and you count them as more important than yourself. What Cam Ward did puts self above team. It's more like narcissism, where your image is more important to you than anything.

Not that it was right, but he had been poked in his eye twice that game and had to come out a play because of it before he did that in a pile near the goal line.
Why are there so many people saying this was planned and the coaches choice. If that is true then its none of our business. We aren't a part of that locker room
Thank you Matt!!! This is exactly what I’m saying. Cam Ward is the most SELFISH quarterback in CFB. You play TO WIN, not to focus on stats. Miami fans want to make excuses of him trying not to risk injury, then WHY did he even play then? Emory Williams no where near did good when he got in. Miami fans are AWFUL. Always hype up their team saying the U is back, THE U IS NOT BACK. U’s DOWN
This is a prime example of why NIL monies should be held in escrow until a player either graduates or goes pro. They should get a monthly stipend and if you leave early, there’s a penalty against those funds. If you have conduct that is detrimental to the team there should be fines. When you graduate or leave you get the remaining amount minus penalties, and the penalties for transferring should be strong. That would be the only saving grace for NIL.
@mbrownie22 so what? Well the beef should be with the coach for.... making sure hus QB got the record, stayed safe, and gave another kid who's been working to get a chance to see the field in a game that didn't have any further advancement.

No it wasn't. Prove it. Not with something somebody said after the game was over. Nowhere before the game was that made clear to anyone. It's a cover and you know it. Ward and Cristobal are weak
That was an agreement between him, his NIL deal & the coaches BEFORE the game. Guarantee you all his teammates knew. Not one NFL team will care. It ain't war. It's a Pop-Tart football game lol. "Game-winning handoff" from Beck?? No way you're serious. Cam made a business decision. I seriously doubt, as you've stated, he'll regret in 20 years, that decision if he's accumulated the wealth. Record is meaningless. What he did is cowardly and selfish. You don't quit on your team at halftime. Either opt out before the game or play the damn game from start to finish.
Cam Ward could have spent part of his $2 million and bought a one game insurance policy. NIL contracts need to include a "No play, no pay" clause in them.
Isn't he receiving NIL to play what's the difference if he was in the NFL. If he's already under contract in the NFL he might do it for a new contract. Just don't look good on him.
Honestly I dont see the issue. He played, he broke a record and dipped out so he can focus on the bag. Nobody had an issue when he transferred from school to school and I promise 95% of folks didn't even know who he was before he got to Miami. Now all of sudden he plays one half of a bowl game and now he's a buster lol a year from now nobodys gonna even care especially him since he's gonna make generational money while most of us in the comments gotta clock in to pay rent. The internet warriors will forever be lame for these takes.
I'm pretty sure saquan Barkley is only playing next week to break the rushing record...Risking getting hurt before the playoffs. if he break it in the first half he won't play the rest of the game
What Cam Ward did is the epitome of only looking out for yourself and not caring about your team. I don't think any NFL scouts will look over he actions. If I were a GM I would pass on this guy without any second thoughts.
The sad part is people are actually surprised. This generation is for gratification and trophies. It’s very hard to find athletes who just play for a little more. I don’t care about no record, either I’m going to war and finishing or I’m going to pass it to my next General in charge.

Funny how actual Miami fans weren't even mad about this, myself included. Shit, a lot of us were surprised to even see Cam Ward play in the game to begin with. I usually like your takes but I can't get behind this one. This decision was already agreed upon well before hand and he put up 35 points in the first half. We lost because our defense can't stop a parked car from moving. It's not like the coaches called upon Cam Ward to go back in and he said, "No. I don't want to." He and his team ALREADY KNEW he was playing one half and had Emory been just half the QB Cam was, and the defense just been able to stop ONE drive, no one would have even talked about this.
It was actually part of the gameplan. Miami wanted to get Emory Williams playing time to see what he can do. BUT, where Miami screwed up was not putting cam back in the game when he was needed.
These kids with this NIL are pathetic. Hopefully this gets fixed very soon. Need character analysis in high school. I don't care how good a kid is, if he isn't a good person then don't recruit him.
As a Miami fan I really am torn. Part of me understands why he did not play anymore for his future, but if he was going to do that I would have rather not seen him play that game at all.
I find it hard to believe that any of the truly great Miami QBs of yesteryear, if given the opportunity, would have ever entertained the idea of doing what Cam Ward did. Apart from being cowardly, it sets a horrible precedent going forward.
What I want to know is if he made that decision or if the coach pulled him to see the backup QB because he wanted to know how the team would look after Cam Ward left for the NFL. It might not be his fault.

I have been a Bama fan all of my 62 years of life..I remember when 90% of the teams were from there home states and played with pride and love of the game...Those days are long gone...
Saban’s players still competed in the bowl games even when they didn’t make the playoffs. Not a single star player from that ‘22 team opted out.
Very true. You should be happy because when Saban was there paying every/ anyone to come there, they were all from states other than Alabama
@@teddyghioto unfortunately you’re correct; I remember watching Paul Bear Bryant coach his final game in the liberty bowl. Alabama had a bad season but every single player played in that game and wanted to win that game for coach Bryant. They beat Illinois 21-15 and carried coach Bryant off that field, it’s something that stuck with me all this time, how much pride and loyalty those players had for their coach and their university.

Ummmm no. The coaches were perfectly fine with this. that bowl game was completely useless and everyone knows it Your playing for nothing. Cam went in got the record and was out. Touché to him. So what no one cares. His team mates were completely fine.

The NCAA needs to put in a rule than anyone getting paid more than 500,000 in NIL cannot opt out of a bowl game.
I agree. But all that's gonna do is cause fake injuries to spike. Ham strings can get you to sit out a few plays, even a whole series.
@ dentonyoung4314 why do you think the NCAA could do anything?
@@Trey-o2m Because in this case it's not a restriction on the NIL, you can get as much NIL as the school is willing to pay you, which is why they kept losing lawsuits before is they were trying to limit the actual amount of compensation. The courts would view this differently, you're just asking they if we pay the money for the athlete to play the game, they actually do it.
@@dentonyoung4314they aren’t paid to play football dawg. It’s their name image and likeness. NIL isn’t intended to correlate with success on the field, even though it inherently does with very few outliers. Bruh, if I go out there and pass for a quick 3 touchdowns IN ONE HALF plus we rush for another, you boys should be able to go win the game in the 2nd half. He spotted y'all 28 points and yall couldn't finish it out. Cam Ward doesnt play defense. It's not like he was getting beat down in the game and just decided "I'm done playing football," he made a business decision. Im sure this was the plan going into the game and it was discussed with the team and coaches well beforehand. He made a business decision and made a compromise and went out there and played an entire half when he didn't have to go out there at all and risk anything. How many coaches made a business decision and took a job at another school, leaving his old team without a coach for the bowl game? But its a problem when players make business decisions
How did playing for his teammates work out for Becht in Georgia? The defense makes 1 stop and we aren't even having this talk😂😂

I am a little confused by the "meaningless" bowl game stuff. I know Im old school, but these games DO matter. It counts toward your year record AND bowl game win/loss stats. I think it matters to all the boys that play or the games just wouldn't be played at all. I love watching bowl games. So far the bowl games have been more competitive than the playoff games.
The coach took him out of the game for the second half, they also took did the same thing with jacolby george. This was a preplanned thing that he would only play the first half
Coach absolutely did not take him out for the second half. And if he did he should be fired. You have no evidence of that so why try to push that narrative bozo 😂
@@brotherman96First of all bozo, a coach protecting a qb from getting a carson beck type of injury in the second half is no grounds for him getting fired. You wanna talk about not pushing a narrative? @ lol it absolutely does things for his draft stock. The problem lies within that. Yall have made it so much about the league players have chosen to treat college like the league. Which it’s not. Coach did not “protect” his qb. Cam sat out voluntarily in the first half. Nice deflection though

4:01 Suspended 3-4 Games and NIL money for that period of time is given back to the program
I really thought that he was going to go back in for the last drive to try to win the game, but when he didn't, I was so disappointed,if he didn't intend to finish the game, then he should have opted out all together.
Blah blah blah
Their school also provided them 10 million dollar insurance in case of an injury.
I doubt any single player in cf could even survive 5 seconds in a battle of Roman times...they'd all leave for the portal and let the rest of their army get slaughtered😮
he played to get the record also it was a coaches decision Idky y’all on his case about this
Matt, one of the wonderful things about a team sport is that each person should believe in putting the team ahead of self. All the good teams support this value system and talk about the beauty of it. They talk about "loving" each other, which means you give of yourself, and you count them as more important than yourself. What Cam Ward did puts self above team. It's more like narcissism, where your image is more important to you than anything.

Him stepping out to the side line In the final quarter was a disaster decision ever
If i was an owner/general manager or head coach. I would not draft Cam Ward.
When the NFL decides they don't want to put up with these people or at least drop their stock and pay, they will start behaving better.
Respect to Shedure for finishing. Character team wise and organizationally. Leadership quality.
