Great track. Easily one of the top-five all-time great songs from Melodifestivalen. Love that high-pitched note she just tosses off in the middle. Insane that she can do that shit live.
I spent my entire life thinking that high pitched note was instrumental. Imagine my disbelief when I learned in 2023, 20 years after I heard this song for the first time, that it was HER VOICE.
+George Austin Tay most of her songs are just as good today as they were when they came out same as "Avundsjuk" that came out 1998 the beats are timeless well at least in my opinion and her voice is very unique at least compared to other Swedish singers
She was at the time (90's) the first true competitor to break away from the schlager genre in Melodifestivalen. Yes, her songs sounds very modern, even today.
The term you look for is timeless. Her songs feel just as contemporary now as when they were released. (Truth to be told, they did never feel super modern, they feel like last years summer jam but keeps on feeling like last summer forever.)
Poor Nanne. :'( She sends pure awesomeness in Melodifestivalen, yet she was ALWAYS robbed! This song would have guaranteed (in my opinion) a Swedish victory in ESC 2005!
She´s fantastic. This is the first song I listen to every day, when I come to work. It gives me a lot of energy and joy for the day and my work. I admire her so much, also for the personality she has. Wonderful woman.
A few years past, while I was in medical school in Minnesota, I discovered Nanne Gronvall and her powerful vocals through this song. Watched a bunch of UA-cam videos of her music. I introduced it to a friend and classmate, who is of Swedish/Danish descent, and he thought she was awesome too. One night, at another classmate's social gathering, I met some Swedish medical students who were visiting. Told them how much I liked Nanne and they laughed about it. Told me her music was like "country" (folk?) music. Lol. Still think she's awesome.
You don't say, in sweden many of us are tired if the jury because they have no sense in music taste. You might be an expert in music but your experties doesn't matter to what the public thinks of the song they hear. The jury just ruin the shit for our artists who deserved to win since the people of sweden voted mostly for the one they liked the most. But I guess the jury doesn't always wanna give a good show from sweden in eurovision :/
This must be the best song ever Sweden have had in the SwedishEurovison - can't belive that it not won!
I have always loved this song by Nanne. Great singing, great choreography, great supporting musicians, catchy music. And boy, can pint-sized Nanne DANCE!! Fantastic! Much love from Australia.
15 years later and still in my opinion one of the best songs ever from melodifestivalen. I still can't believe they didn't send this to the festival. What a song, what a performance. just SUPERB
She is one of the few singers around today that can write, sing well and in tune (not lip sync) and dance. I wish more of the people voting had liked her.
Her 20th year as a music artist, 9th participation in the contest. And the experience shows. She *nails* it with 200% energy, sounding even better than the studio version, while also doing the choreography and the flairs perfectly. Kudos for that. And as a great bonus: that camera direction is amazingly slick.
I love Nanne's voice. Not only is she powerful, but I love the fact she's not in a super high soprano range where most end up sounding like they squeak. There's some great talent in that woman.
I can not believe that I am JUST finding out this was a Melfest entry this was one of my absolute favourite Nanne songs and it could have graced the Eurovision stage????????
I remember we could buy songs like this to our cellphones back then. Do you remember polytunes as phonesignals? A lot have changed since then. Now we can watch stuff like this on the Phone.
I love the song too. In my opinion, it would fall into the genre that we lovingly refer to as the "Eurovision"-genre, which fits it nicely; it can be a mixture of rock, pop, any genre really, seeing as Eurovision has seen some ethnic performances as well. The singer, Nanne, is pretty much a legend in Sweden, she started out in her twenties, and for being over twice my own age, I take my hat off to her for her fantastic stage presence and competence as a live singer. ^^
My God Sweden, your Nanne is a superstar!!, she scores with every performance. This is the first time I've seen this and caught up with the story about how she was robbed by the juries that year even though the public vote was overwhelmingly for her. I hope she can make it through a future final. Love from the UK. x
Oh wow! How is this crazily powerful voice coming from such a teensy little package?? What a fun stage presence too, wish she would come to the US so I could see her live :)
This was the doomed year when we sent "Las vegas" I've never ever been so ashamed of watching eurovision for beeing swedish!! And we had Nanne! We could've sent her and gotten at LEAST a #3, but NO!! We sent the worst song EVER in Eurovision! WHY??!!
I've listened to this song countless times (and loved it!), but I always assumed that the high notes (i.e. in the opening: [guitar] dun dun dun dun dun. dun dun dun dun dun - EEE!) were electric guitar. Seeing that that part is really sung is... impressive, to say the least. That it sounds like an electrically amplified instrument really accentuates the force of the singers' vocal power. I also always assumed that Nanne Grönvall was in her vocal prime when she sang this. She's a strong singer!
+AtticusRh0des Who doesn't seem like an English speaker?? Nanne has competed in the English version of Melodifestivalen, she has also recorded a bunch of songs in English...

I surf-walked to here just after Salvatore flipped his step-grandma
That this never won Melodifestivalen.. is still a mystery.. 💖
It's incredible how modern this song sounds, might as well be a hit in 2016
+George Austin Tay most of her songs are just as good today as they were when they came out same as "Avundsjuk" that came out 1998 the beats are timeless well at least in my opinion and her voice is very unique at least compared to other Swedish singers

Poor Nanne. :'( She sends pure awesomeness in Melodifestivalen, yet she was ALWAYS robbed! This song would have guaranteed (in my opinion) a Swedish victory in ESC 2005!
Celestial Trash at least she went to the contest in 96.
This song was recently voted the best ESC preselection song in an online poll- and I agree with the choice!

I'm noticing something with Melodifestivalen... the public vote winner is always way better then what the juries choose if they disagree.
You don't say, in sweden many of us are tired if the jury because they have no sense in music taste. It is beyond my comprehension why this did not destroy the competition at Melodifestivalen 2005.
Well that's the shit what really happens when hyped music gets the front seat.
Would've absolutely loved to have seen this at Eurovision
It did destroy the competition, according to the peoples vote.
But the rigged jury groups just loooved the lame ass dude who eventually won.
asymptotally5 Televoting wise, it won by landslide, the Juries though voted for the other guy..
Dorienne Grech
3 more points from the jury and this wouldve been in Kiev
I remember listening to this while being young.I used to listen to this all the time.

Oh my god I love this woman!
She's like the Tina Turner of Sweden!
She has such a powerful voice, and enough energy to support a country.

Helt underbar !!
I adore her personality. Her singing is amazing and everyone on stage looks like they're having a blast.
It's a DAMN SHAME that this force of nature didn't get to represent Sweden.
Blame the international jury... the swedish public want this.
She REALLY should have been in ESC with this song.
woooooooooooooooo!!!!! SÅ F F MÄKTIG LÅT!!

Her voice is absolutely awesome.
She is one of the few singers around today that can write, sing well and in tune (not lip sync) and dance. I wish more of the people voting had liked her.
Thank you, Salvatore. Not many know that Salvatore went back in time so that Nanne could sample his song. Good work, time-traveling Salvatore.
aww, her band looks like they're having so much fun performing with her, too :)

Fantastic song. I don´t understand a single word, but still, it´s great to listen to the melody and Nanne´s strong voice. Swedish music is the best!
Can’t stop hearing this song. Awesome!
Precis som Nick Borgens "We are all the winners"
Sveriges rockfarmor 8D
nää, kanske inte farmor, men hon e asbra!
älskar fortfarande den här låten!

Maybe she'll reach Eurovision with an even better song next year, she'll be in Melodifestivalen
Nanne is just great! Loved her since the first time I hear her. :D She has a great voice and so much energy!
Looooove the performance... love the song, love the spirit. Love from Indonesia
What a catchy song! How come it lost to "Las Vegas"? This song is way superior !
NA
Hard to believe a voice that powerful can come out of such a little woman. ^_^ She's fantastic!
i was 11 years old in 2005 times really flies...
I was around the same age. This is my childhood right here.
I remember we could buy songs like this to our cellphones back then. Do you remember polytunes as phonesignals?
A lot have changed since then. Now we can watch stuff like this on the Phone.
and within 10 short minutes of discovering this song, it has become my favorite melodifestivalen song of all time

It's really well paced this, both the song and the choreography. The peak at 2.58 sets my blood racing every time. 😊
She has so much energy and personality! And a fantastic voice!
This was my favourite song that year! And rachel, nice comment!
Nanne, du är suverän!!!
And the queen is back
Wow! This is really extremely powerful singing! Impressive!

does the fact that the drummer's in a Tutu mean they know about the epic Princess Tutu AMV?
Maybe :> Hehe the AMV made me LOVE the song, funny how often my favorite songs I know not a single word of :>
Considering the show was never dubbed in swedish i doubt it, and she dosnt seem to be an english speaker, so id say no.
+AtticusRh0des Who doesn't seem like an English speaker??
Nanne has competed in the English version of Melodifestivalen, she has also recorded a bunch of songs in English...
She is so cute. And got a great set of pipes.
Song....stuck...in head....forever.
Yes, I think that this song had been placed high. I mean, it is such a good song and it´s not what Sweden usually send, and how can you not love Nanne?

Wow. She sounds EXCELLENT live, which is a stark contrast to most American pop singers that don't have the balls to actually perform without lipsynching to a prerecorded track. You can tell she's really singing, because you can hear how out of breath she is toward the end. The fact she actually has the guts to do it -- and do it WELL I might add, she doesn't sound much different live than she does recorded -- makes her one of my new fav artists.
i just find it amazing when anyone can deepen there voice with power like that while singing
Queen Nanne !!!
Thanks grandma
fantastic perfomer!!, great voice ! absolute top class!
2019/20 anyone? ❤️
