I think it’s because developers can use a trick to get chip tune (8-Bit) sounds to come out of the SNES, but I can’t explain it sadly as I don’t really know how it’s done
Having actually had the game as a kid, I do remember the manual having a very clearly stated warning about the risk of epileptic seizures in the front of it - though yeah, it was otherwise in the early-ish days of games and shows actually warning about such things.
Funny thing is if you grind enough, Ness only needs the bat & PK healing later on. Paula & Poo will deal with everything with PK Freeze. & Jeff's Multi Bottle Rockets for bosses.

A huge insufficient waste waste of 98 PP that can be better spent on other stuff... but undeniably cool and does a metric fuck ton of damage nonetheless. Starstorm Omega is much more PP efficient and can't miss. Then again, can't hurt to have both (along with Multibottle rockets).

In my game, it's called PSI Soul, which I also refer to as a "Soul Strike". Basically, using the power of your very soul in order to strike the enemy. In other words, exactly what PSI Rockin does.

I truly believe earthbound had to have given kids seizure, but it was just so “back in the day” that nobody documented it

you can do so much fucking damage in one turn in this game. One time I beat a boss with only one multi bottle rockets, I think it was super starman
