Onset is the only instrumental up on their official you tube therefore the only that can be reacted too in 100% safety. Enjoyed the reaction Jules and I do like the more detailed reactions. "Don't Be Long" was an "etude" for Miku to practice "tension" chords (sevenths and diminisheds) prior to "Different". They played it during their 5 U.S. appearances in September 2019, the last time they were in the U.S. Others have mentioned "Without Holding Back", and then there is the elusive "Go Nuts!"

      A second comment: others are mentioning that they have instrumental versions of songs from "Unseen World." You might think, "Well, a completed song with the vocals missing; that would probably just be an incomplete song." You might think that. You might be wrong.

    At this point, I think you're ready to meet Band-Maiko. The usual request is for a double reaction starting with Band-Maid's "secret My lips" followed by Band-Maiko with "secret MAIKO lips", but I suggest "Gion-Cho", the only fully original song for the project. It's almost more beauty than I can bear.

    The process is usually as follows:
    - Little musical genius Kanami comes up with melodies and submits them to the band;
    - Misa and Akane start working on the rhythm section;
    - Miku starts working on the lyrics;
    - They get together and Saiki has the final edit. If it's not good enough for her, it goes in the trash.
    The big secret is that there is no crumpled ego along the way, just work, work and more work with a lot of humility, all in real frienship in and out of the scene (there's a video somewhere on YT that shows one of their "training camp". They isolate themselves to work and rehearse, living together for several days, cooking for each other, have fun together).
    Note: Miku has made a lot of progress with the help of Kanami Sensei and you can hear it more and more in the way Kanami plays, cause she knows that she can count on Miku now to back her up. Same goes with Misa and Akane who are friends since school and know each other well.

    Kanami is responsible for how their music gets made and arranged. The method varies a bit from song to song but Kanami generally writes the riffs and melodies, creates a backing track, and programs bass and drum parts. She keeps the bass part simple and sends it to MISA to work out the details within Kanami's arrangement. Apparently MISA turns it around within a day or two. Then Kanami sends it to Akane. Kanami wants complex drum parts so she has often sent Akane parts that take too many hands and feet to play. Akane reworks the drums, again within the arrangement. Then Kanami gives it to Miku to write the lyrics. Miku and Saiki make adjustments to the vocal melody and work out the harmonies. Then Kanami puts it all together and mixes a demo. They take the demo to the studio and replace the parts one at a time. Sometimes Akane and MISA record together. Miku and Saiki often record multiple vocal tracks which get layered together. Same with guitar parts. I believe that Kanami generally plays all the guitars parts in the studio version. Then they all get together and figure out how to play it live. They add longer intros and breakdowns, cooler transitions, and sometimes more solos. Since Saiki is the lead singer, you may not know that Miku fronts the band. She speaks with the audiences and the press, takes the lead in interviews, and maintains their image. So Miku and Kanami are the heart and brain of Band Maid. Add the virtuosity of the other three, and you have a band where all the members' contributions are in total balance. Kanami clearly hold back to maintain that balance. And while she may put a lot more time into their music, she relies on the others for friendship and emotional support. Nine years and running.....

    As a hack bass player myself, I'm a huge Akane fan (you can see in her eyes she knows what she's doing and she's having fun doing it). She is always in the pocket, which allows Misa to do lead bass the whole time. Best rhythm section that I can remember as a boomer of the 60's. Kanami said that she writes everyday to keep her edge. Her undergrad was in economics. I've had courses in undergrad and grad school with Bio-economist (yes, there is craft as such), for example. They surely think out of the box, and open your mind to greater perspectives, Po! Stay the course, you're doing great!

    • @nomennescio4604

      Going by what Miku and Saiki has said, Kanami isn't so much an out-of-the-box-thinker as off playing with the fairies often as not - she is "like a Disney Princess playing with little animals". And Miku has taken to observing that people think she is "the weird one" of the band, then they haven't really met Mincho. Miku also has called Kanami a "genius" to her face at least once in an interview. Kanami shot down that kind of high praise in a New York minute, leaving Miku almost wailing "Why don't you believe me?"

    Keep on your current path in reaction style. It's fun, informative and a little quirky. Love watching reactions from people with musical knowledge. There are soooooo many reacters out there, and trying to remain original is hard, but your style is cool and fun. No more questions, just continue to evolve.....lol.
    This is hard, but the "holy trinity" (Kanami, MISA and Akane) is what sets this band apart from others. MISA and Akane as a rhythm section, speaks for itself. Kanami for me (my favourite) is a musical genius. Not only is she a great guitarist, she does ALL the tricks...selectively, but she's and outstanding songwriter...imo. These 3 are trained musicians and have been playing some sort of instrument from a very young age.
    Then we have Saiki who has dreamed to be a singer as a child.... her voice is broad, strong, soft, unique etc. I may be biased, but.... And last we have Miku. We all know the cool Miku back-story. She writes the lyrics, BUT she and Saiki provide the vocal melody for the songs, and between the 5 of them TOGETHER, produces this cool music.
    My next suggestions (all on their UA-cam page)
    "Sayonakidori" No vid but it is Miku on lead vocals. In my top 5 BM songs
    "Bubble", My top 3,
    "Warning", opening track to their latest album. A thrasher.
    "Alone", Their 1st original written song.
    "Don't let me down".... I can see Lemmy singing this and their 1st full English song.
    "The Dragon Cries", bluesy, in 2nd English song, Tony Visconti produced.
    "Start Over", Not my favourite by any stretch, but it is another aspect of their sound
    And so many more....You have to also check out the MV for "Manners"
    Then we have the "contracted" Anime theme songs... Sense, Glory, Different (on their YT page). .... and Sooooo much More.... This is just to keep you going for a week or so....

      I was impressed in the Christmas acoustic concert when Miku was the sole guitarist as well as vocalist for several songs, and she carried off the role well -- with Akane and Misa for Time and Sayonakidori, and then with Saiki and Akane (on cajon). For her to be the sole guitarist -- especially with just a cajon and two voices -- for a concert being viewed internationally shows that she has matured into a decent guitarist in her own right. She said that Akane was giving her approving parental looks of "Well done, Miku!"

But you know, Akane complained about BLACK HOLE. "I need some more arms".

    It's actually flanger not flangger. The original effect was based on having the sound on 2 reel to reel recorders and changing the speed of one by grabbing the flange of reel on one to slow it down. The way the music happens is Kanami writes it and records herversions of all the parts. Then it goes to MISA & Akane for them to do their thing. Akane will sometimes complain, "This drum part cannot be played by a human." Good thing she's half gorilla and part drum machine because somehow she's able to make it work. And yes, a large protion of MAIDIACS are MISA Guys. MISA is just great at doing what she does. But then they all are. Just remember it's ALL CAPS 3 Xs MISA MISA MISA!

    I just think they have everything. Fantastic musicians but also fantastic composition. Kanami makes the melodies but then hands it off to Akane and Misa to add their own things, then MIku writes lyrics. I think it's cool she writes the lyrics after most of the time. Then you have one of the most amazing singers who has breath control like no one I've seen! BTW I like the in-depth stuff. I've been learning myself. Especially if it's Band-Maid lol.

    Jules, BAND MAID play much like a cycling team in a time trial, each member taking brief leadings in the sound race for the sole purpose of winning the race and being effective in the show. They continually relieve each other. That's the way I see them and, for me, Akane is the race director but with Misa close to her. They are a full team with all the members having enough skills to win the race in doesn´t matter the scenario. Great reaction again

    btw, dont worry if u go deep into the analythis for the reaction or if u just watch and have fun. most of people that we wathc reactors for band maid, like that the youtuber be yourself in their unique way.

    Kanami is using digital delay, plus there's a third guitar part briefly played two or three times via a backing track. Your pronunciation of "flanger" is cute. My first pedal was a DOD bass flanger that I still have! I think the only other B-M instrumental is the recent, "Don't Be Long," and I'm not aware of a video for it. It's probably out there on UA-cam somewhere, though.
