Well, it really wasn't at the start. Horikoshi was just making the latest chapters connect with the movies like he adapted so the movies would fit in the main stories

@@jameshealer9688 The movies literally were always canon. Even as far back as the first one, Two Heroes, Horikoshi made an official extra chapter showing how All Might got his Golden Age costume (the one he wears for most of MHA) from David Shield when Melissa was a child, which inspired her to be like her father and help Heroes through technology.
