    357 sig is really underrated and over looked by alot of people. 357 sig ammo can cost alot but if you know where to look you can get 50rds for around the same price as some other calibers.

      The same goes for 10mm. Much of it is loaded for under 1100 FPS with a 180 gr. bullet. Sig and MagTech are at least medium loads. American Eagle is loaded to 1030 FPS. Winchester is loaded to 1080 FPS. That is according to the box, not a chrono in my back yard.

      I got a box of +p 357sig for $19.99 truth be told though, bulk buying .357sig is expensive. Really expensive. Lowest price I've found is $0.37/round and that's FMJ ammo. Hollow points get up around $0.88/round.

      @@jasonvoorhees2701 thank you!! 10mm is 💩 unless you’re loading your own. Just get +p .40 and get the same velocities, even better if used in a carbine pistol! Speed penetrates more. I’d be highly interested seeing these two calibers compete with similar rounds of Underwood Extreme Defender. These use a copper bullet that won’t expand. The Underwood Extreme Defender comes in 90 grain 357 sig round, and a 100 grain 10mm round. You may need to have up to 20 + inches of fiberglass boards to shoot into. These rounds penetrate very deep.

    The sig was moving faster by 100 feet per second. I would say if the 10 was the same speed it would cause much more damage. The whole was larger in the 10 which “may” equate to bleeding out more quickly. So if we went with a slightly lighter load for the 10 allowing it to move faster, the 10 would be the better round, in my honest opinion. I Love the 10 but the sig is right next to it !

    I've got a Glock 20 & 29. What I like about the two and their relationship to the 10mm and .357 SIG rounds is that they are both out of the same cartridge, the .40 caliber. The 10mm is a .40 cal in a longer cartridge for more powder and the .357 SIG is a 9mm in a necked down .40 cal cartridge. So, with the G-20/29/40, you've basically got 3 guns in one; the 10mm, the .40 cal, and the .357 SIG all in one. To go from one to the other, all that is necessary is a simple swapping out of the barrel. Everything else is compatible from the magazine up to the barrel.

      124gr 10mm is too low of sectional density for 10mm caliber and would get outpenetrated every time by 357sig in FMJ or HP. I don't know about Fort Munitions because it's a fully copper bullet and results may be different, but it's not apples to apples. 10mm needs to be at least 155gr in FMJ for decent penetration. Here's a very good video where both are compared with some hot Underwood FMJ ammo vs pine boards:

    180 grain FMJ out of a 10 is really weak compared to what you can get out of the caliber with other ammo manufacturers aka Underwood, Buffalo Boar or Cor Bon. To me the 180 grain is only good for plinking and has a recoil similar to the .40. I wouldn’t choose it for self defense or hunting. So many better options.

    The 357 Sig is without question the superior round. Even though on this specific test, the two rounds appear to have penetrated the target somewhat equally, the fact is, the 357 Sig fires with higher velocity, and a flatter trajectory. In other words, more accurate than the 10 mm.

  • @kd2quick
    @kd2quick 4 роки тому +1

    Not really a close comparison, the 1/2" shorter barrel of the 10mm is loosing around 50fps as well as the added weight of the cartridge 180gr vs 125gr another 300fps, a total of around 350fps and that makes a big difference. If you could get both cartridges at around 155gr you would have a great comparison, but it was still worth watching thanks and keep shooting. God bless all free thinking Americans.

    The hole seemed bigger on the ten in the first two signs. They both stopped at the same point. With using a small grain 10 vs a much higher grain 357. Lets make sense of this and realize 10mm is definitely and better round. More damage even in lower grain. So this video is not a fair comparison. But both rounds are not to be taken lightly.

    I agree it's pretty safe to say that the 10mm with 100fps less bullet speed and 55 gr heavier weight round is a dead tie to the lighter fast 357sig. This 357 sig is gonna continue to be my round of choice over the 10mm. Simply because the round is so flat shooting. And all the other benefits of the 357sig round. Granted it does have 2 major draw backs for the meek. 1 load bark aka blast. And cost. As far as cost I believe my live is worth the cost of the ammo.

    • @ThePenetrationChannel
      @ThePenetrationChannel  4 роки тому +2

      The ammo cost of 357 SIG is pretty comparable to the other semi auto calibers where I'm from. I just wish it came in a larger array of weights. Thanks for watching.

      @Jeff Ioiselle - In the video the 10mm was a 180 gr. and the 357 Sig in 125 gr, so yeah naturally the 357 Sig will fly faster. But compare it to the 10mm in 125 gr, and it's velocity is at 1600 fps at over 700 ft/lbs of power. That's significantly faster and stronger than the 125 gr 357 Sig and the 10mm will shoot much flatter. This guy should have done a more equal comparison like both calibers in 150 gr or so. The 10mm is stronger than the 357 Sig and depending on the right ammo choice even slightly stronger or equal to the 357 Magnum. Both 10mm and 357 Sig sound about the same in noise blast, but the 10mm in lighter grains with Underwood, Norma or Buffalo Bore and people will think you're shooting a 5.56 AR.
      There's a reason why the Glocks make the pistol frames and slides bigger for 10mm, while the .357 Sig Glocks are smaller both frames and slides. Shoot a 10mm G29 with pinky extension along side a 357 Sig G32 since they're both very similar in size, and you'll feel the G29 jump more with far more snap. But 10mm are harder to find.
      If I'm gonna shoot a caliber as expensive as 357 Sig, I'd rather get the 10mm since it's stronger and more fun to shoot. The 357 Sig feels to me like a hot loaded .40 S&W

      @@jeffioiselle7982 - You didn't read my comment carefully. I said the 10mm in "125 gr", not 180 gr like the 10mm he used. The 125 gr 10mm has a velocity of 1600 fps, not 1250 fps. Also the 125 gr has around 700 ft/lbs, not 624. You didn't read up on the grains of the 10mm. He didn't use 125 gr 10mm, he used the 180 gr 10mm. He should have used a grain both in similar grains.
      Both calibers in 140 grains for example are listed as this.
      10mm 140 grain:
      Velocity: 1500 fps
      Energy: 700 ft/lbs
      .357 Sig 140 grain:
      Velocity: 1352 fps
      Energy: 500 ft/lbs
      As you can see that both calibers in the same grain, the 10mm is noticeably faster and more powerful.

I remember when it was being developed I new it was going to be a bad mofo. unfortunately if its not picked up by a large portion of the police deportment or military it normally wont gain traction. 10mm ammo would probably be easier to find and few manufactures are offering firearms in 357sig.

    I like both calibers equally for different reasons.and consider them both an improvement on 9mm. And both are FAR superior choices to .40 s&w.
    .357 sig is " better" at distance. I have a berreta 96 .357 sig conversion. I zero my red dot at 15m and its dead on out to about 150m. And delivers about the same kenetic energy as a 9mm at that range. And closer up its better for barrier penetration.
    10mm is just raw power. As long as you know what loads to buy. if 9mm just wont cut it 10mm stacks up VERY well along side 357 magnum preformance, and you dont have to limit yourself to 5-8 rounds.
