I think that something that could have been an impact on your disliking of the Dutch book is that people whose native language is English are maybe less used to translated books and some times the translation can destroy a book

And your Goldilocks idea you 100% describe credits by Penelope Douglas, minus the taboo effect

I love your anecdote about approaching translated fiction like you would a foreign film (coming from someone who has just graduated from their Masters in Film Studies and is looking to continue those studies into a doctorate).
I've been listening to The Gingerbread House (not a Hansel and Gretel retelling) which is a translated Nordic Noir book set in Sweden, and it's definitely been interesting. At 60% in, I'm probably sitting at a 3.5, because the first third was kinda slow and jumpy, but the second third really picked up and slowly started to reveal the links between characters. Despite that though, I couldn't tell you much about the plot or even character names, I just know I'm enjoying my time with it when I am listening to it.

Believe Me was available to borrow on LIBBY so I'll be giving that a listen 🎧
I told ya about THRIVE... It put me in a slump with that series... But when I finally got back to the next book, all was good again... Still 3 more to go!
I don't have a preference when it comes to Best to Worst or Chronological... Surprise us each week... Keep us on our toes!
OK... Let's get NEGATIVE... So I decided to give that Powerless by Lauren Roberts a try since some of my now EX-Booktubers were praising this book like it was the next masterpiece. I went with the audiobook so I wouldn't be too mad if I didn't like... I got 7 hours into this book and just had to DNF! In those 7 hours I felt like I was just reading Hunger Games with a bit of Red Queen thrown in... And I don't mean some "similarities" like all these Girlies like to say... It was EXACTLY like Hunger Games. All I could think was how this author wasn't SUED by Suzanne Collins!? And the writing overall was just so juvenile. Objectively, I can't see how some of my favorite booktubers were calling this their favorite book of the year. I know why... Because the author is a fellow Bookish Creator who they're all just trying to hype up... I now can't trust said Booktubers and had to unsubscribe... OK, I feel better 😁

"i'm literally reading this book to find out your personal information."
ugh you didn't have to expose me like that!! 🫠
and personally i liked the chronological order! to me it felt more cozy and conversational and less like a presentation somehow. 😊
