Wow, so impressed with choosing sentinel from the jump. Go you! If you get used to focussing on using powers then it can be very useful. Though ME1 is pretty gun heavy regardless. The next games provide a better balance for focussing on power use. One class in particular can be played in the 2nd and 3rd game with almost never using your gun. People who think you'll actually stop and dig a grave and have a whole service for Jenkins before moving on with the mission 🙃

Hi. I haven't watched the playthrough yet, but in the options, you'll want to change your squad's power usage level from "Defensive" to "All". When it's set to defensive, your squadmates won't use all of their abilities. I have no idea why the developers set the default to defensive, but it's so stupid. ME1 is the only game in the trilogy that does this; the rest don't even have this option.

Thank goodness a streamer that wasn't duped into playing Vanguard, objectively the worst class in the game. The idea it gets better in ME2 is also inaccurate since in ME2 you can Only use Pistols, Sub-Machine, and Shotguns and combat is much harder, although better in ME2 and 3. For a first Playthrough of the game Solider or Adept are both great choices. I would absolutely love to see any of these weird Vanguard enjoyers play ME 2 and 3 on Insanity and use that biotic charge lmao, would Love to see that.
Your comment is irrelevant regarding ME2 and ME3 as you're only talking about a specific level of difficulty. Of course vanguard is a very hard category and it's unforgivable in ME2 ME3 in the hardest difficulty (since in insanity, you're done as soon as you put half a finger out of cover), but that count ONLY if you plan to play the game like this, which she doesn't (as a first timer) and we, Vanguard enjoyers, don't. In lower difficulties, it's a unique tps experience. That being said, you're actually wrong about Vanguard in ME1, for the original at least. Since in the OG you could only use certain weapons depending of your class (i mean, yes, precision and damage is still affected in the remaster, but you can use them all with more than decent result now), Vanguard was actually overpowered as it was the only class that could handle Krogans (WORST ENEMIES in the game) or Get Destroyer efficiently.

The reality is first time streamers spend most of their time using Snipers and Assault Rifles as Vanguard in ME 1, then using pistols and even submachine guns more in 2 and 3. For a first playthrough Vanguard is plain and simply the wrong suggestion. Just to try to please fans streamers end up doing a biotic charge in ME 2 into a group of Krogan and dying instantly. It's bad advice based on what You like to play, with zero consideration about what would make a good class for a first playthough. It's not magic that combat in ME 2 and 3 is harder with Vanguard than any other class, it's because the class is trash. Yay they can do a lot of close range damage with shotguns, so can Soldiers.... Who can also... Wait for it.... In a game where people who aren't skilled in FPS can't keep up with combat.... SLOW TIME.

In the ORIGINAL ME1 (not the remastered one, Adept is as good since you can now use all type of weapons no matter your class, which youy COULDN'T in the OG), Vanguard was the best class. Because you had access to shotgun nd biotic powers simultaneously. In the highest difficulty, Geth Destroyer, Thorian's servitors and Krogans (IN ME1) are a nightmare to deal with without having access crowd controlling power (biotic) + shotguns. Now, about ME2 and ME3, Vanguard is perfectly playable if low to mid difficulty, which was my point (again, re-read my comment and you'll see it, i know it's almost impossible to play like this in Veteran). In an adequate difficulty, it's an objectively unique experience (no shooter has such mechanics). If you can't even in those type of difficulties, then it's just skill issue. You also proved that soldier is as boring as it gets, especially in ME3.

Vanguard for me, so much fun and ridiculously OP at times 😆
If you play the Original Edition, then Soldier first and *then* Infiltrator so that you can get "Assault Rifles" as a bonus feat.
