I almost always go for magnetic under hull shots, unless the ship is damaged making a guess on the depth more challenging. Always just set the depth to 1 meter below the ship. I actually find that the results are better as you don't have to worry about a glancing shot or a dud impactor. I find the magnetic detonation to be more reliable. If a ship sees a trail and turns it can glance off where it will still go off when going under the ship with the magnetic sensor. Not to mention one torpedo then does what might take 2 or 3 otherwise. It's more efficient in damage done per torpedo making your limited supply last longer. Another benefit is that a dud, on a electric torpedo, doesn't alert a ship as it sails right under. A hull dud shot makes a loud thud alerting the ship or convoy to your presence. So you can fire a second without the complication of a weaving ship following the dud. Magnetics therefore I feel are always a superior method.
