Vanessa keeps getting better and better. ♥ Love how she's true to her sound. The way she speaks about Mumford & Sons and "The Cave" shows how much of an artist she is.
I'm might be a decade late, but yet by the time you posted this comment, she released 3 albums after the album which had the song "A Thousand Miles". You have just been living under a rock.
Anyone that has a negative comment towards this remake is really close-minded towards different renditions to this song. I think Vanessa Carlton is extremely talented and has a unique voice. I love Mumford & Sons, they make great music, but i also like this remake by her.
Her voice is a gem. I LOVE Vanessa. I also LOVE Mumford And Sons. They're both great artists and both have extreme talent. Some people, like me, have been with Vanessa since the start and have a little part of our hearts that will belong to her. Others have been with Mumford And Sons since their start, and love them a little more. QUIT TALKING TRASH. It's dumb and makes you look stupid.
I only ever hear this song on one radio station that tries to play a little more than top 40 Hip-Pop, I think she's awesome and it'll make me like the song more.
I don't think this is the best song for her voice either, but I like the vibe and the "OoooOOoo" =) Vanessa's voice can be heard as "nasal, annoying, immature, imperfect" but I find it "emotional, endearing, innocent, raw" instead.
Mumford & Sons may make this a soulful song, but Vanessa makes this an introspective and emotional song, imo. I love M&S, and they sing it with great conviction, but Vanessa's rendition makes me think and feel much more than theirs. I love how the beautiful melody (which M&S wrote) is much more apparent than the loud "jangle-pop" of their version.
I love how people who do not perform themselves place such judgement on their precious Mumford. Music is a conversation. Jimmy Hendrix himself did many covers and made it HIS OWN. The beatles? Hello ever heard of the 'Black Checkers' yea they did most of their songs too.
Finally! Someone does a cover from mumford other than White Blank Page! I like her version, not as much as the original of course but I like it nonetheless.
i appreciate how they kinda made it their own, but M&S is so much better. Also the guitar player left off so many distinct notes that it almost sounded like a completely different song
Haven't been on UA-cam for years Im starting to look at the comments, I'm reminded why I don't like people -_- oh well, I liked the cover mostly cuz I idolize Vanessa Carlton but u know to each there own(probably used the wrong there)
People really get the meaning of a cover but they don't like others to RUIN the song. Just because she "made it hers" doesn't mean it's forcely great, if so I'll sing my "uh uuuh" and make it mine so it'll be soo amazing cuz it's how covers are supposed to be done
I think she did a great job. And about her reading lyrics? No that's for her piano. Memorizing lyrics is easy but memorizing notes for a piano isn't so easy even the best of players have to use sheet music occasionally. Don't hate her.
i have posted on laura marling videos before that nobody can cover correctly except a few. I said to those cover makers that you either 100% replicate the thing or surpass or you don't cover it. Vanessa carlton obviously has a better understanding than me cus she is capable of surpassing yet she is still modest that she should preserve and that it's hard when she try to blend her own take into it. I ain't gonna say it again. Plus VC said best. so stop covering shit on youtube unless you mean to
I think she did a great job. The only thing i dont like about it is part of the chorus when she sings " i " she sounds airy like she's singing through her nose. Otherwise i think its a great sound :]
I do hope you mean the best cover besides the original. And it is a nice cover. She has put her own twist on it which is nice. But it is still a cover. No cover is better than any other cover because they are all covers. But she has taking out on of the best part of songs, the slight aggresiveness and the ability to make you stamp your feet. But she's put her own spin on it and I concratulate her. And in my opinion you should avoid changing a folk song to a slow quite song, doesn't work.
And what the FRAK does being a man have to do with this song? Lyrics can mean many different things to several listeners. I feel this version actually shines to the lyrics. Powerful imagery on M&S part (and I adore them) However, whatever the 'true' meaning may be to a song, m&s has said several times they try to steer clear of 'whats the right meaning' of their songs. Learn. Play. But before all that LISTEN.
@JusttRayna don't get me wrong, i like her, she's a good artist. and she's not even messing up the song making it "hard to listen to". i just don't think this song was meant for many people other than the original band itself to be sung. the accent part to me takes away much of the "music" and the not being a man thing takes away the "feeling" of the song. again, it's not a bad cover, but i do feel feel like it's a bad choice
She can sing and I like that she tries to make it her own. However, the guitar is overpowering at times and I believe it would have been better sung a cappella or with just the piano. Of the covers, this is reluctantly near the top 5 that I have seen.
Vanessa keeps getting better and better. ♥ Love how she's true to her sound. The way she speaks about Mumford & Sons and "The Cave" shows how much of an artist she is.
I love how she incorporated her music and style on this cover. Great job VC!
I love the version of M&S but this brings me to tears. her voice fits great with the song especially the high notes. I ♥ it
This is a magnificent cover. Vanessa is so underrated it kills me. What a talent.
I love this girls voice. Wish I could hear more from her.
Beautiful song, beautiful rendition and a really beautiful artist.
This cover got me through my first semester of college ❤ I love her!!!
This song really suits her and her cover was really well done.
@SonnyTV1 Agreed. I love Vanessa's take on the song! She wrings the pain out of it.
Amazing cover.
Vanessa is mad talented no 1 gives her the respect she deserves
I think it's lovely. Her voice it amazing x.
Still iconic!!! Love you Vanessa!!
serious, all the covers of this song are great. just because it's this song.
i havent heard her since 1000 miles... and my she has come a long way. beautiful

I love this cover - one of her best
A nice take on the song, love Vanessa Carlton!
I actually love this >.>
love mumford and sons and vanessa carlton
WOW... her voice was made for this song
I love this.
As she said, cover are tricky. You don't wanna coppy but you wanna preserve the vibe.
She definetly made it :)
I only ever hear this song on one radio station that tries to play a little more than top 40 Hip-Pop, I think she's awesome and it'll make me like the song more.
Love it!
Vanessa's cover >>>>>>> Mumford & Sons entire discography.
favourite band eva
amazing ;)
She pulled it off. She made it her own. Vanessa has a lot of soul, I'm sorry you cannot see it.
Awesome V!
She's amazing and I say that as a metal head.
it really fits her voice... it's magic when she sang the line '.. and i will change my ways." =)
Love it! Reminds me of New Slang by The Shins!
just hearing her voice reminds me of terry crews......
amazing cover girlie.
I love this version :3.
She can do no wrong. Mumford and Son's should feel blessed.
i love her
She just put my two favourite things together.
her voice is cute.
I love her she cab sing real good ^_________^
Love this actually! Stop comparing the two. Just keep calm and listen xD
The song was already perfect. Give the original a listen.
I don't think this is the best song for her voice either, but I like the vibe and the "OoooOOoo" =)
Vanessa's voice can be heard as "nasal, annoying, immature, imperfect" but I find it "emotional, endearing, innocent, raw" instead.
@DhakkanProd She did "walk a thousand miles" if you heard it.

i was ready to marry her back in the 90's and i still am.
I love Vanessa. I like this cover. It's not suppose to sound exactly like the song, this is why it's a cover.
I love how people who do not perform themselves place such judgement on their precious Mumford. Music is a conversation. Jimmy Hendrix himself did many covers and made it HIS OWN. The beatles? Hello ever heard of the 'Black Checkers' yea they did most of their songs too.
Amazing job, Nessa :)
Finally! Someone does a cover from mumford other than White Blank Page!
I like her version, not as much as the original of course but I like it nonetheless.
anyone can write what she said at 3:53 to 4:55 please
You have a very beautiful, interesting voice.
@JordanKerk99 She had at least two singles before that got some decent radio play, Pretty Baby and Ordinary Day
cute cover
nice..!!!
People still don't get the meaning of a cover. She took the song and made it hers, that's how covers are supposed to be done.
this
stop bashing her!!!!! it takes courage to post these videos.................. her voice is not that bad
@Loudnproud93 Two Door Cinema Club does a cover of The Cave, as well and Sara Bareilles does a cover of Little Lion Man.
@miguelianni, EXACTLY, this was good, idk why those others dont see that, nice to see someone intelligent commenting on youtube :D
@GenoNicholas I love it when that happens!
How u doing
❤
Nice
Different versions of the same song, it's not Mumford, it's Vanessa and she made her own version
i appreciate how they kinda made it their own, but M&S is so much better. Also the guitar player left off so many distinct notes that it almost sounded like a completely different song
Haven't been on UA-cam for years Im starting to look at the comments, I'm reminded why I don't like people -_- oh well, I liked the cover mostly cuz I idolize Vanessa Carlton but u know to each there own(probably used the wrong there)
AWESOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOME >:(
Apart from the "uuuh uuuh" i actually liked this! Only cover of this song I liked this far.
@TravellingMusician WELL SAID. :)
Fair point, fair point. Well I admire her greatly for that, i think I just prefer Mumford because of depth in it.
Vanessa carlton is famous you could hear plenty more from here lawl
Makin' my way downtown
walkin' fast
faces past
and I'm homebound
People really get the meaning of a cover but they don't like others to RUIN the song.
Just because she "made it hers" doesn't mean it's forcely great, if so I'll sing my "uh uuuh" and make it mine so it'll be soo amazing cuz it's how covers are supposed to be done
Gah this was suggested video for Taylor Swift singing one of their songs and when I saw Taylor I was dissapointed and clicked this and got excited!
I think she did a great job. And about her reading lyrics? No that's for her piano. Memorizing lyrics is easy but memorizing notes for a piano isn't so easy even the best of players have to use sheet music occasionally. Don't hate her.
Taylor Swift did a pretty damn good White Blank Page...I agree with you on this cover though.
This is good but still NOWHERE near Mumford & Sons version. But yes she deserves credit. Reminded me of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah
@jaxlevitan Um you obviously don't know what her voice sounds like. I agree this isn't the greatest cover but that is just what her voice sounds like.
i have posted on laura marling videos before that nobody can cover correctly except a few. I said to those cover makers that you either 100% replicate the thing or surpass or you don't cover it.

add glasses and do her hair a certain way and BAM! its amy from big bang theory
Money doesnt dictate talent.
I do hope you mean the best cover besides the original.

@The1ns1ght i suggest Sara Bareilles' cover of Little Lion Man. top-notch.
This isn't her song, really. Lets be honest, but its a good effort and i like to "ooooo"s in the instrumental bits.
And what the FRAK does being a man have to do with this song? Lyrics can mean many different things to several listeners. I feel this version actually shines to the lyrics. So why is it categorised as 'musical contradiction'? I thought it was quite nice.
@charmed1243 i can hear her right now, and it is nasal.
I'm number 5
Vanessa Carlton, like coffee, is an acquired taste. Yeah, I will admit that. I'm one of the people that's addicted to what she's got, though.
very good, but nothing beats the original for me :)
Wuhahaaa *__* ♥
90% of the people who find this video will probably be fans of the original and aren't gonna be pleased with anything...
She fucked up "Big Yellow Taxi". No surprise she'd fuck up Mumford and Sons too.
@jaakee The sexism... IT BURRRNNNS
How damn cute is she????
This would be fantastic if he used an ACOUSTIC GUITAR!
