      All parts of the plant are edible, the flowers, the stems, the leaves, and the seeds, the seeds are pretty spicy though but Iove them!

      While I keep meaning to do something with my seeds other than saving them for next year's planting, I still have yet to do a video on pickling them or turning them into pepper. I usually just eat the ones I am not saving fresh, I love them!

    The white storage lids made for mason jars (Ball, Mainstays, Bernardin) fit loosely enough to allow for the escape of carbon dioxide produced in veg fermentation. No special lids are needed.

      I agree, that is why I do not have pickling tops, I do not think they are necessary. I made kimchi for many years without the need for special equipment

    My Nasturtium seeds must have been too old this year, they didn't come up for me. I'll have to get some new seeds and try this next summer. My blackberry ferment is 48 hrs old and it's really going to town. I don't even have to shake it and I can hear the fizz. My red raspberry is fizzing, just not as much. I started a huckleberry ferment yesterday, and I think that'll be the slowest, but it's only been 24 hrs and when I shake it there's fizz. :) I started looking around to see what other fruit I could ferment. LOL I think I'll start with making your natural soda and then try Kimchi. I tried to make that years ago and it didn't do for me. Thanks!!!

    I just tried my first batch of cabbage, green pepper and now I forget what spice with some hot pepper flakes with my berry fermentation starter - better check on it, though I put pickle pipes on all my ferments now, makes it so easy! Unless I use a regular neck jar, ugh 😊
    Love nasturtiums, I should try fermenting them; grape leaves were my first this year.

      I am going to start a batch of fermented pickles today (at least that is the plan) and will finally be adding grape leaves to them hoping they truly help them keep their crispness

    This was great! Can't wait for the next nasturtium video... I have some growing and I don't use them 😬 they are kind of spicy... is that normal or is it because they are a few months old and rather leggy?

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  7 років тому +1

      They are spicy anyway, that is their nature. Have you ever tried the seeds? They are REALLY spicy!

      Yep! I have a video from last summer (2016) on the health and medicinal benefits of nasturtiums. I just filtered out my antibiotic (nasturtium leaf) tincture the other day :)
