Customizing Divi’s Secondary Menu Bar with a Call to Action

- The most important information on your site should exist above the fold (roughly the top 600px of your screen). Divi takes advantage of this concept with their secondary menu bar.
The menu bar sits at the very top of your site to showcase important elements like share buttons, a secondary menu, a phone number, and an email address. Users should always be able to find this important information no matter what page they land on and without having to scroll to find it.

As I use this video absolutely nothing is happening when I edit the header.php file. Yes, I am using the default DIVI header. Somehow something has changed and this video is no longer relevant. I wish they would take down these old videos because at least half I have watched for tech stuff are no longer relevant.
The "SHOW MORE" button has a link (Read Article) to an Elegant Themes page that has step-by-step documentation for the video. In it it explains that once you've created the Child Theme, you have to copy the header.php file from the parent theme to child them. Then you edit the file in the child theme.
How do you remove the secondary menu?
Hi Mak, at the start of this video you mentioned that it's advisable that we use a child theme so as to ensure that when DIVI is updated it does not clear all our code yet in this video you place your CSS in your Theme Options, Custom CSS field. I have asked this before but is CSS placed here lost with future DIVI updates? Also, in this video you updated your header.php file so I need to ask if this code is also safe from future DIVI updates?
Hi there, I am trying to locate the CSS code you used in the Blog article, could you include it in your reply please?
this only work on desktop version. How about mobile version?
Just delete the part of the css that says @media { }
I was wondering what code you would enter to have the CTA link open in a new webpage, so the user wouldn't have to press the back button to return to my website. Thanks.
Again! Very useful stuff
If you're using child of Divi theme like you should, it seems to be theme-header.php instead of header.php
I only want the CTA in the secondary menu appearing on every page. How to do it?
I want to exclude this from the homepage. Is there a way to do this?
Hi,
I like your videos. I have learned a lot.
I do not have the editor option. How do I get the editor option to appear under "Appearance"?
I found the solution on Google.
@@hellomaids5519 lol you came back to tell us that comment but not share the answer?
I had done this before, but this video is outdated now. et-secondary-menu does not exist in header.php anymore.
A great tutorial but my phone number isn't showing. Any ideas?
HI Mak, Firstly, I love your tutorial videos - so quick and easy to understand, you get right to it!! For this tutorial I was a little lost at the part where you edit the header.php I'm using Divi Child Theme (not one I created but one that I downloaded from Divi. When I go to Appearance > Editor and look for the header.php it is not even an option at all. Also, I just want some text in the secondary header (no links).
Why would you create a child theme and then modify the header.php in the parent theme? Makes no sense. And why not keep it simple by adding a WordPress menu to the secondary menu bar?
good day mak, thanks for all your tutorials, please is it possible to do a tutorial on how to add countdown timer to primary or secondary menu
could you please show us how to make scrolling down button with every module not just full header please . thank you

shouldnt these changes be made to the child theme? I followed the video and edited header.php in the Divi theme (Not my divi-child that i created), will these changes be gone when i update the theme next time?? PS. thanks for all the awesome tutorials!
Hi... can you make a tutorial on how to embed an rss player for music on the secondary menu using divi css
Nice tutorial!
Can you please make a tutorial on how to have a Regular Sidebar on Pages with using page Builder in Div?
I made a blog page with GRID layout but unfortunately my default sidebar has disappeared and i ultimately wanna have it back, can you tell how is it possible, anyway?
This is outdated we need a new one!
I bought this thing to don't use code, but to do everything I need I have to code
Can you share, how to create Road More Text Link, please?
thank you sir
You're welcome
I was hoping you could do a tutorial on how to create a child theme. I have read a post whichNick Roche wrote but it has assumed knowledge and I got stuck quickly. I'd be most grateful. Many thanks.
I installed a plugin "Child Theme Configurator" from the Wordpress repository and once created, I just deleted it.
Hello!
Is it possible to add an Instagram logo to a secondary menu? Like Call to action form.
i used the menu image plugin. Uploaded the png file (24px x 24 px) of the instagram icon to the file library, created a new menu under the secondary menu, uploaded the image within the secondary menu, choose "hide" for title position, then went to appearance > customize and added this code
@media (max-width: 980px) {
#top-header, div#et-secondary-menu, ul#et-secondary-nav {
display: block !important;
}
#top-header .container {
padding-top: 0.75em !important;
}
}
to the additional css section to keep the secondary menu on the top when viewing on mobile.
Hey mark how do I know if I have child theme thanks
Check in your themes section. It's likely you don't have one if you haven't installed one.
I don't have an editor button under appearance.
I found out you have to turn it on, but then I realised that would be a rubbish idea so I did it via FTP instead.
Congrats.. very good! I need to put an Eframe (whit login to a school sistema manager) in this Space of Secondary menu. Is it possível ?
you call yourself #1 theme and there is no straight way to add text to the top bar
absolutely agree! or anything else any marketer needs, they don't help with that!
The beginning of this video is ok although after he places the phone number and email the rest is wrong. Watch when he edits the header.php file in the top right corner he is using a child theme called "MAK" the parent theme is "Divi" this is how I am set up also. The email looks good although you have to give up your search and the social icons. The CSS code is being placed into the child theme and the link is in the header of the Divi theme so yes when you update this you will lose your work. MAK is a good man he has done some really cool things. Although this one for me is not even working. I am using the Divi child theme most likely the same plugin he is using. Although I hope MAK can tell me were to place this code I have gotten from the wed site listed here on his blog. The number is showing the links href="#" is showing although when I place the code I do not get the actions that are placed within the code is about 70 lines of CSS I believe this is suppose to reside within the child themes CSS file maybe its the plugin I am using I have just made my child theme after making my first page. Although this code is not working within the themes options CSS down bottom.
Divi is the 3rd class page builder .👿👿👿👿
I bought this theme and i gotta say for $200 it is garbage as far as header options go.
