  • Many are declaring Anatoly Tsiris as the new master American wood turner. Anatoly came into his career as a wood turner after leaving college in Ukraine with a math and science degree. He realized he was not meant to follow in his parent’s schoolteacher footsteps. Starting as a furniture maker, Anatoly vigorously evolved his passion for wood turning into an art. Soon, a custom-made 2600-pound Nichols lathe replaced the small lathe he owned, and woodturning became Anatoly’s number one occupation.
He prefers to work on a large scale and is attracted to unusual pieces of wood, seeing the beauty in the irregularities. Anatoly uses only previously cut trees, disregarded for their defects. He turns the hundred pounds of wood chunks, exposing the unique personality of each tree, into the awe-inspiring vessels that claim home to many public and private collections.

Wonderful project. Thanks for sharing. Why do you use inches, instead of cm?

Fantastic! I would have thought that was impossible. Now I think I should do something like that myself, but I'll start with maybe a 200mm diameter by 300 log!!😁

Hi Colton! Anatoly gave the gallery this video to be on display with his exhibition at Alan Avery Art Company. We post the videos to our UA-cam channel after the exhibitions to share the amazing work our artists have been up to with the world. We hope you enjoyed learning about his process as much as we did!
