    I played this one a lot in the 60's and 70's. A good game. I added a few custom rules to make scouting a little trickier when it came to correctly identifying enemy ships.

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  Рік тому

      That's a neat idea! Did you ever try a refereed game?

      @@LegendaryTactics - No, just played in the usual fashion, with the screen. You could get different scouting results, depending on a die roll. Some were more accurate than others. The least accurate was simply "ships". The most accurate was exact info about how many ships and which types. Then there were different degrees of accuracy as to numbers and types of ships. The less accurate numbers could be halved or doubled from the actual...and so on.

    I've played this game too many times to count, I know the game pretty well, and I have to say this is an excellent video. The only small thing which either you forgot to mention or I didn't hear, was that a player has to reveal on what zone aircraft returning from a strike are landing on. This is why it can be a good idea to return to Midway.
    In all the games I've played, I don't recall ever having to fight a surface action. Very strange... 🤔

      Very good. Thanks for the feedback. We want to come back to this game. We're having fun with a lot of other Avalon Hill games atm like War at Sea and Waterloo.

      Hello - I started playing AH games back in the early 1970s. I just purchased a copy of AH Midway (1964), but it lacks a rule book. Is there any chance that you could provide me with a PDF or pics of the rule book?

    Where can I find this computer version used in the video? All my searches only show the old static board game or AH's simplistic 1984 DOS computer game.

      Tabletop Simulator and Vassal both have modules. Tabletop simulator looks better but has a cost attached. Vassal is free but a clunkier interface.

    I played this game back in the mid-70’s. The search feature reminded me of the old Milton Bradley “Battleship” game. It was somewhat juvenile and relied on your opponent’s honesty. I never really like it.

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  2 роки тому

      Yes, it depended on your opponent's honesty - but then again, don't most games? I think these games also have to be viewed with some context - they were very unique and innovative for their time.
