i'm a canucks fan, and i honestly gotta say the wings are consistent competitors for the cup, and they will be for a long time. if i didn't live in vancouver, i would be a detroit fan for sure. :) at least we got samuelsson now! :D
With half of their roster gone with injuries and many of those being to top players I'm just happy their not in a worse spot. But I honestly think their a better team this year then they were last year. Last year they were in the bottom 10 in defense this year they're in the top 10. If they can continue scoring goals they will be fine. Now if they don't start winning once they get their players back then that's unacceptable.
kelmesc88 - i did not notice that but now that you mention it, he hardly skated at all, the guy from the other side of the ice is the one that ended up going after Samuelsson
You have a point Austin9215. Philly fans are intense, and the orange crush is great. I will admit that Joe Louis can be pretty lame sometimes. However...Philly is not an intimidating place to play because everyone who plays there winds up winning. Since 1975, Philly has been to 6 stanley cup finals and lost every one of them. And when they're not in the finals, they went out early. Nobody is scared of your atmoshere, or your underachieving flyers.
@nintendoman34 no, i completely agree with you. who knows how well these men will do in the future compared to the seasons they had. it's just shocking how well they did after leaving. but you're right. we got rid of them since they either weren't performing or salary cuts. i guess a fresh start with a new team can do things for you.
im a huge wings fan and believe me when is say that the only team that can contend with the wings is the hawks this season. pittsburgh relies on two guys, the hawks are the real deal. wings hawks in the playoffs this year will be interesting
yeah, i noticed. and thought at the time that khabby and the rest of the team would be livid at those guys. but i read nothing in the chicago papers, and heard nothing about it from either the espn or versus hockey crews.
Browers stick was so close to touching Samuelsson's on the back check.... Barker did what he could but one on three is too much. You cannot make mental errors like Campbells against a team like Detroit. It's not over yet though and I still believe and support the Hawks!
@Crymson1 and he was almost on loan to the Russian team he was on. He didn't fully leave, it was almost like soccer where clubs can put their players on loan to other clubs without really getting rid of them
What a beautiful goal, and what European class. When you break it down, Hudler from the Czech Republic passes it to Filpula from Finland, who passes it to Samuelsson from Sweden, who shoots and scores. Did i mention that samuelsson stole the puck from a Canadian defenseman Brian Campbell to start the attack. The red wings outclass the compitition, which is not easy to do in this sport. funny how the don cherry's of the world think that tough rock em sock em hockey is the way to go.
@letmepointout Don't kid yourself. Leino might've been a valid giveaway considering he did absolutely nothing for us and was unable to utilize his talent, but losing Samuelsson was a blow. He's a 20-30 goal scorer and last year we felt the sting of losing him, along with Hossa and Hudler.
If any team that's this far out can put together a performance good enough to make the playoffs and still be a hard team to beat in the playoffs its the Wings. That being said Kenny Holland thinks they'll need at least 95 points to qualify and thats atleast 13 wins in the next 21 games. All i know is whether or not they make the playoffs this year i still think they'll regain the form they had the past few years. This team has too much talent and leadership to completely fall off their horse.
Maybe but I think they'll be alright. This team isn't that different from the team that won the cup in 08 their D has improved considerably from last year and the beginnning of this year. They're 10th now compared to 27 last year and Pav, Hank and Nick are improving considerably. I think thay have proved against certain teams this year that if they work hard it's gonna be hard to stop them. They head into the break on a positive note. Let's hope they make a nice little run at it after the break
Well, I admit Ill miss Samuelsson and Kopecky, and MOST OF ALL Chelios. But Chelli was old and not too good anymore, but I still love him :]. But... BUT we have Bertuzzi!!! WOOP!!!
i just cant believe how the players the wings got rid of in 2010 suddenly became stars for their team, it's unbelievable. Samuelsson goes to the canucks and becomes one of their top scorers, Leino went to the flyers and absolutely ignited in the playoffs for them. it just makes me want to ask either two questions. #1: Why the hell did the wings trade them? or #2 Why now did they decide to step their game up? it makes the wings look like idiots for even trading getting rid of them.
Wings fan here but we lost that game because our only scorer was Jonathan Ericsson. You don't win games like that. And Pavel/Hossa were hurt throughout the entire playoffs
@Gphazor it just goes to show you how great the wings are. Kyle Quincey couldn't make the team, now a started on the avs. Sammy can't pass and dissappears for weeks on end, not for the wings, but good enough for the nucks. Leino doesn't back check but he is good enough for philly. Detroit keeps the best defensive forwards and the best offensive defencemen. It works. Watch how well Lebda does on Toronto. they might rename a street after him.
Ya, for every time samuelsson hits the net, he misses it 8 times, many of those times high and wide, usually wrapping around the boards leading to an odd man rush the other way. He never really fit into Detroit's defensive-minded system very well and he will not be missed.
Dude I'm just poingting it out. Pittsburgh is a good team. I'm just pointing out that if you lose that many games in the west a lot more teams are gonna pass you. The entire league is a lot stronger then it was last year and it's gonna be hard for the Wings to climb back into a comfortable spot but I think they can do it. Pittsburgh as much as I dislike them are a good team and won't continue their losing ways for long.
Anyone else notice that all be it a horrible play by Campbell, Patrick Kane and Samuelsson are at the same point on the ice when the play breaks out and Kane slacks back instead of backchecking hard.
@Crymson1 Samuelsson actually played most of the year on the second line. ur forgetting about Burrows whos the regular on the first line. sammy did play with the twins often on the pp though
@cursedlemon Certainly, Sammuelson could win a game here and there, but he wasn't worth the money considering the cap space they were up against. They had to select either Hossa, Franzen, or Sammuelson. I think they made the right choice, I just hope Orpick didn't put him (Franzen) out for half the season with his dirty-assed knee tonight. friggen pre-season game, what an asshole. without the cap, sure, Sammuelson would have been a great guy to have.
That's cause their in the east if the WIngs were in the east they be in at least 6th place. The Pens have 55 points thats good for 4th in the east but 7th in the west.
@serious789 You're a Wings fan? Because we are first in the West with a 3 point lead on your Wings. So what if we've never won a cup, neither has Washington, so I guess they suck too. Luongo struggling right now? He's top 10 in both Save% and GAA, and is 10-0-4 in his last 14. And where's Howard you ask? 28th in Save%, and 33rd in GAA. (I really hope your a Wings fan or else I wasted my time writing this for nothing. :P )
@letmepointout i love the wings but samuelson is a great player for the nucks now, he has a lot more confidence playing with their team for some reason and lebda is absolutely terrible with the leafs, i live in toronto and watch most of the leafs games and he just isnt what he was with detroit at all
@letmepointout yeah i think detroit would have kept sammy but he was UFA so they couldnt afford him. Nice try though. I love detroit cuz they're just so damn classy but the canucks.... They're more. Sedins are both 20+ on their plus minus so u cant say they're bad defensively.

Thanks for posting this. . . I had to miss the game today. What a game!
turn the speakers up and listen to the crowd. love listening to that.
WOW the joe gets loud! I love it!
Love the Joe!
this was one of the most beautiful goals scored in recent hockey history.
TIC
TAC
TOE baby.
Go Wings!
great game, amazing goal
I swear I can hear Mickey Redmond calling "BINGO BANGO BABY"!!!!!
31 goals and counting baby
Brower was so close to tipping the pass offSamuelssons stick. It's a game of inches, Barker did all he could but a 3 on 1 is brutal to cover.

Detroit Red Wings Overtime Goals 2013
Fuck yes. I missed sammuelson. I was pissed when he left he's got a good shot and he's a rightie. Something the wings need. Welcome back
WOOO WOO WELCOME BACK SAMUELSON
totally agree. i saw it too, and have wondered why no one is talking about it. not melrose, and certainly not the chicago columnists
With half of their roster gone with injuries and many of those being to top players I'm just happy their not in a worse spot. @TheWheatisHeat96
You mean, "Thank God the refs gave Game 7 away to the Pens that year"
1st Pens goal was an ICING
WOO HOO!
Nice backcheck Kane. Especially for a 3 on 1.
kelmesc88 - i did not notice that but now that you mention it, he hardly skated at all, the guy from the other side of the ice is the one that ended up going after Samuelsson
the most exciting game on the planet. This is proof
Lets Go Wings!
He fit in perfectly and Babcock used him as such.
what game was it when Darren Helm scored the OT winner in OT,I know its not the 7th game,I think it was in 08 in game 2 against blackhawks, but Idk

After 09 the wings completely changed I miss these days hopefully they can turn things around next year and return to glory
welcome BACK SAMMY :)
Browers stick was so close to touching Samuelsson's on the back check.... Barker did what he could but one on three is too much. You cannot make mental errors like Campbells against a team like Detroit. It's not over yet though and I still believe and support the Hawks!
aaahhhh, gotta love it if your a wings fan
@Crymson1 and he was almost on loan to the Russian team he was on. He didn't fully leave, it was almost like soccer where clubs can put their players on loan to other clubs without really getting rid of them
@italianobro
I agree. Samuelsson was one of my favorites. :( This was such a beautiful play.
fillpi, hudler, and sammy was a great third line
I wish we still has Sami, Wings still rock though
Samuelsson is one of my favourite players..in the Canucks! :)

WELCOME BACK SNIPER SAMUELSSON!!!
That's a GOOD thing

HAHAHA, "tick tack goal" I love it. Chicago just doesn't have the experience that the Wings do.
Now look at them. 3 cups. Lol
@@JRballer2377 they definitely learned a lot from this series looking back

welcome to vancouver! Mikael
Detroit skills kills !! loll
Welcome to Vancouver!
@solocamlad It's a good thing he chose the Canucks because he's a good player. No doubt about that.
damn i miss him
I am not a Red Wings fan but that was a great goal
Best goal of the season, hands down.
Tic, Tac, GOAL!
GO DETROIT RED WINGS!
The Blackhawks have shall we say a LEAKY blueline corp.
They should let local Chicago Bakeries sponsor the 'turnover of the night'
@Gphazor it just goes to show you how great the wings are. Kyle Quincey couldn't make the team, now a started on the avs. Sammy can't pass and dissappears for weeks on end, not for the wings, but good enough for the nucks. Leino doesn't back check but he is good enough for philly.

@solocamlad They didn't want him anymore see he became a free agent, but why would they do that after he just won an important game in OT?
i miss sammy and all of his shots that fired 5 feet wide of the net :(
Lol, shows how much Pat Kane and Toews care about their team... they just slacked it on the back check on that play.
Dude I'm just poingting it out. Pittsburgh is a good team. I'm just pointing out that if you lose that many games in the west a lot more teams are gonna pass you. Bandwagon, nuff said.
Anyone else notice that all be it a horrible play by Campbell, Patrick Kane and Samuelsson are at the same point on the ice when the play breaks out and Kane slacks back instead of backchecking hard.
haha nice backchecking kane
LOL. And very true.
yeah but man, we got williams back! we got bertuzzi back! and we got a shit load of youngins!
I think we should be alright this year.
in the words of katt williams or at least paraphrased words of katt williams " if you aint got haters you aint doin somethin right"
@Crymson1 Samuelsson actually played most of the year on the second line. ur forgetting about Burrows whos the regular on the first line. sammy did play with the twins often on the pp though
Commenter Da Guy is right! DETOILET HAS 6 MEN ON THE ICE WHEN THEY SCORED.... STOP IT AT ONE MINUTE IN.
at 0:22 the guy with the Shanahan jersey is not even moving
@relam13 Jiri Hudler has returned, they easily could have signed him again. They should have signed him again after this goal.
@Crymson1 Hudler's back
Better stop Cleary, making that guy whom the Hawks cast off look like an all star.
thats why the hawks need a goalie to win a cup.
Merry Christmas you got you're wish
the one person was the blackhawks goalie
that play is forever imprinted in my mind... why detroit gave him away i do not know:(
@cursedlemon Certainly, Sammuelson could win a game here and there, but he wasn't worth the money considering the cap space they were up against.
Why the hell would the Detroit Red Wings trade Mikael Samuelsson after that awesome OT goal?
That's cause their in the east if the WIngs were in the east they be in at least 6th place. The Pens have 55 points thats good for 4th in the east but 7th in the west.
@serious789 umm, accutally luongo hasn't lost in regulation in a month
You got your wish a year later.
@serious789 You're a Wings fan? Because we are first in the West with a 3 point lead on your Wings. So what if we've never won a cup, neither has Washington, so I guess they suck too. (I really hope your a Wings fan or else I wasted my time writing this for nothing. :P )
guess whos back in the D....
@letmepointout i love the wings but samuelson is a great player for the nucks now, he has a lot more confidence playing with their team for some reason
and lebda is absolutely terrible with the leafs, i live in toronto and watch most of the leafs games and he just isnt what he was with detroit at all
Haha Brad Stuart almost ate shit coming off the bench to celebrate.
@letmepointout yeah i think detroit would have kept sammy but he was UFA so they couldnt afford him. Nice try though. I love detroit cuz they're just so damn classy but the canucks.... They're more. Sedins are both 20+ on their plus minus so u cant say they're bad defensively.
The commentator absolutely lost his mind.
Looks like people really do hate the Blackhawks :P.
@jimih64 I don't know, sometimes people just run into douchebag fans on twitter, youtube, etc and think those are the only ones out there.
What does that even mean? Regardless....what a sic goal!!!!
@letmepointout yeah i think detroit would have kept sammy but he was UFA so they couldnt afford him. Nice try though. I love detroit cuz they're just so damn classy but the canucks.... They're more.
And Now Hes A Canuck
Not to mention, half there lineup is gone!
well, ya got your wish as of today.
campbell is 7 million? are u kidding me?
