  • Escape Room, 2021, Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller
Seen here installed at Luhring Augustine Gallery, New York. September 10 - October 23, 2021. Currently showing at The Lehmbruck Museum, Duisberg, Germany from 27 March 2022 to 14 August 2022 (ESCAPE ROOM EXTENDED TO MAY 2023!) as part of the major retrospective exhibition "Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller". (Escape Room at the The Lehmbruck Museum has been extended until May 7th, 2023!)
Visitors movements trigger the various vocal, musical, and SFX tracks as well as lighting changes in the room. Numerous viewers in the room create a cacophony of sound and when the space is empty, the piece fades to silence.

Looking forward to seeing this next month when in New York. Another classic work by Janet and George that transports us into a world of their making, disturbingly similar to ours. And I loved the self-quotation! But it too is disturbing...the 40 Part Motet installed in some bleak space, and someone has toppled the speakers and interrupted the installation...
