The reason I subscribed so long ago is because of your accessible painting style, you can tell you paint to play, not to replicate the Last Supper with a Space Marine diorama.

Love the video. As a former crew on a tracked IFV who worked with tanks as well, crews did indeed work hard on keeping their vehicles operational, but cosmetics even in peacetime kind of fall by the wayside. Tanks and IFVs get dirty extremely fast and even bird baths with high powered washers only help so much. Forget about being too harsh on weathering, they only get painted when they absolutely have to so even garrison vehicles will be chipped with a lot of rust in hard to reach places, grease and exhaust stains in all over. Crew are always moving all over the vehicle scuffing all the upper edges, equipment and tools for setting up night time perimeters is kept on pretty much any flat surface. Then you have environmental from driving through terrain and picking up scratches and so on. In short, clean armored vehicles simply do not or did not exist and there really isnt any such thing as too much weathering.

Uh, thanks for that. That is EXACTLY what we need/look for.
We play in 1/72 or 20mm, but don't own a Airbrush yet (to be true, I like the old way with only brushes...but I'm old😁) and are in desperate need of howtobrushuseaware Video.
    Thanks for that.
We now made our own texture paint for Bases and buildings. We finished the first tries of cheap diorama buildings that came with our Panzer IIs and I'm surprised how well it turned out.
    Thanks for your help! 👍

Nice work! I found an effective and simple technique for 'fading' the camo red and green is to mix it with the 'sand' colour you are using, it doesn't require access to an airbrush or thinning but does get the weather faded look of the field applied schemes, which often did not use the correct paint thinner and were therefore less durable.

Your assessment of the colours is accurate to be best of my knowledge. RAL 7028 DUNKELGELB (MID WAR) is a dark mustard colour & evolved from RAL 8020 GELBBRAUN which was used in Tunisia doing the last days of DAK. Some of the vehicles which were intended for North Africa were sent to the easter front & the crews found that this " Yellow" colour worked well on the Russian steppe by adding a Green and/or Brown pattern to it. RAL 7028 DUNKELGELB AUS ’44 DG I & 44 DG III were more of the beige colour as the chemicals which were needed to produce the paints were in short supply. I found that RAL 6003 OLIVGRÜN & RAL 8017 SCHOKOBRAUN were used mostly between 43 & mid 44 & late 44 it was replaced by RAL 6011 RESEDAGRÜN & RAL 8012 ROTBRAUN due to production constraints

I didn't think I was far off the mark! Time constraints mean I ordinarily won't go too deep into shades and colours of what was actually available, but since I don't script things I can muddle through some of the explanations - very glad to hear I was right in the main. 😂

Re: the painting of the cammo pattens, I read a few accounts, from allied and axis perspectives, of them using mops and brooms to apply paint. IIRC most of the really slap dash effects were with the whitewashing and it might have been preferred as it was splotchier and looked better.

The model looks great! I have learned a lot from your channel and one of the things I learned is using makeup brushes for painting. I am currently building a 1/72 M2 Bradley that has been dry brushed using makeup brushes and it really has an airbrushed look to it using them. Thank you for the information and inspiration.

CONGRATS on 250 posts! (As usual and always, your clearly illustrated techniques and 'friendly patter' as you produce really fine results are a godsend to hobbyists at all levels...)
What I MIGHT SUGGEST (since the 'TIGER' is one of the most iconic of WWII AFVs of any of the combatants indeed...) is that you MIGHT consider a 'Follow Up' video on how 'Super Detail' this 'Table Top' Tiger into something a little more 'Showcase'... (I'm sure viewers would appreciate this?)
Though ABSOLUTELY not essential for a 'Table Top' wargames model, the addition of further painting detail, heavier weathering particularly 'round those pristine decals, some stowage, perhaps some 'net camo', the addition of the kind of 'crap' tank crews tend to hang on or upon the machine (Buckets, Boxes and Barrels!) EVEN the kind of 'natural camo' like 'tree branches' or shrubs that Tiger crews, (particularly in Northern Europe in the Late War era) ADORNED their machines with.
AS you OFTEN say in your mini-painting videos, "You can leave it there OR we can go CRAZY!!!" (Or words to that effect!!!)
I'm SURE such a video 'Follow Up', (given the HUGE appeal of the Tiger 1 as a machine...) would be really well received by viewers. (And you're the man for the job!)
Here's to the NEXT 250 videos from our favourite mini-painting vlogger!
    CHEERS! xx SF

Hey Dunkelgelb, I might offer some insight from the german literature on this topic. There are more than one variants of dunkelgelb. The RAL Colours were created or better branded and unified by Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen (National Committee for Delivery and Quality Assurance) in 1927 - before the rise of the nazi party.
They kept on doing it and the first Dunkelgelb were:
    1. "Dunkelgelb (RAL 7028)" for agricultural vehicles like tractors. This is a beige-grey color and is older than the war. It is up to debate if this colour was ever used on military colours in the beginning. Maybe as experiments during the decision process for the German 1943 Camo project. This is NOT the colour that were used in North-Africa, this was RAL 7027.
    2. "Dunkelgelb (RAL 7028) after Pattern" or sometimes called Dunkelgelb 2 in scientific literature. This was the first Dunkelgelb selected and ordered by the Werhmacht in their order from 18th february 1943. More yellow and way brighter than the civilian colour. Was only in usage for a short time BUT was distributed widely and used for tests before the official order by many units.
    3. "Dunkelgelb (RAL 7028)" or sometimes called Dunkelgelb 3 in scientific literature. Less yellow, more brown. Was introduced in march 1943, just some weeks after the first order... This stays for nearly the rest of the time but often vehicles in Dunkelgelb 2 were not repainted, later painted not by the troops but in the factories - and even here the color mixing was often done wrong.
    4. Endwar crisis, changed again, dunkelgelb 1 for agricultural vehicles is used, sometimes the vehicle is left in the oxide primer and the dunkelgelb is sprayed or brushed on without a color primer, feel free.
So to make it short: vehicles in the German Army will look different, the whole idea behind the Reichs-Ausschuß für Lieferbedingungen (National Committee for Delivery and Quality Assurance was a unified system of colors and they failed at it. I mean having three colors under the same number with different names and pigments is nuts. If the troops mixed the colours to thin, used water instead of petrol, whitewashed the tank in winter, were in different weather or cleaned the tank more often you will get totally different results.
And one anecdote: German troops often used petrol gasoline to wash their tanks, it was even done in the german bundeswehr until it was forbidden because it ruined the infra-red properties of tank camo. This is a lazy but effective way to clean but yeah... dangerous and not smart for the camo.

So for wheels they actually should always be painted a solid color, never a pattern! This is because when the vehicle is moving the wheels spin and the pattern would create a visual effect known as Pattern Induced Flicker. This attracts the eye and provides something for a enemy gunner to really focus on easily. So this is one time where a camo pattern would counter productive. Yay for us since it makes painting one little thing more simple!

Congrats on the 250th. A nice job - and the molded zimmerit is a nice touch from Warlord - you want mind-numbing, hand scribing it into a 1:72 Tiger is the very definition (followed closely by painting 'ambush pattern' on a Panther). If you wanted to go all in on the tracks (if Sonic's track work is an 8, Martin takes it to 11), the best video out there is from Night Shift (he does metal tracks, but can confirm works on plastic and/or old school rubber ones) ua-cam.com/video/rcL3DyKDgAk/v-deo.html

It's not missing if I deliberately left it off. 😜 I think I mention it at one point in the video, but it's left off during painting since it's one of those things you'll smash to bits while you're drybrushing.
