The good part is the hot broth and the yolk. I used to love it when I was a kid. Now I’m in NYC. I haven’t tasted since then. It’s not a food that I say, I missed it. 😉👍
this is a fun vlog...just want to point out though that the balut here in the US is not really incubated to the correct time and the duck fetus inside is small compared to the balut in the Philippines. the duck eggs in the Philippines are incubated for exactly 18 days, duck fetus is twice the size of what you'll see in this video, and is fully formed. other than that, these girls are quite brave! I've seen US GIs throw up at the site of that duck fetus when I was in the Navy! 🤣🤣🤣

Always ask for a 16-day old balut so the embryo is a lot smaller. Crack the wider side, sip the soup so it's not messy later on when eating the rest of the egg. Eat the embryo in one go (dissecting it is a bit gross, so kudos to the 3 girls 👊!) Dip it in some vinegar and salt, of course. The yolk part is the best! The white part is hard so most of us don't eat that. I love the Ukranian girl, so very brave! She even loved the dinuguan! (which is my personal favorite, if cooked correctly. 🤤)

You shouldn't have DISSECTED the whole thing before their very eyes. First time 'balut' eaters will be taken aback with what you did. That would be GROSS and TRAUMATIC for first timers. You should have casually eaten the whole thing as you will do to , like, a normal boiled egg then explain later. Reason why Filipinos eat balut during night time and when it's dark, literally.
