Caves should definitely be a much faster way to get ores, since it's more interesting and less grindy than strip mining. To compensate, caves should be harder, with more mobs and harder mobs (as we have seen will be added), plus the drip stones if they pose any threat. That's so insane because I remember I used to watch TheShadowCaves whole series about how to do stuff in minecraft and once I saw that first clip at 0:41 I was instantly thrown back in time to the good days when life was simple
Y-12: (Minecraft Xbox 360 edition late 2012 -2013) I get a nostalgic feeling from those words and I still use the same technique of strip mining other than making my gaps have 2 blocks in between
Here’s what I do, found a cave that goes to bedrock and just start mining coal, there are a lot of good ores hidden by coal. I didn’t know that till I mined coal and found emeralds.
This video took me way back, lol. I started playing in the last days of Alpha after some college buddies introduced me to Minecraft. It may have been due to us not having any exposure to what few LPs were around back then, but our early mines typically were 1x1 vertical shafts with a ladder, that would then branch off at more or less random Y-levels in search of ore.
Mining is however not only about uncovering most blocks per block mined, but also the speed at which you mine. With an effeciency diamond pick the slower crawl speed is the bottle neck of mining speed, therefore standard strip mining is actually more effective (at least if tou gave effeciency
Everybody comment your favorite mining technique! (My favorite is strip mining and turning in every direction when I find diamonds. You can get a full set in about three hours, if you're lucky)
I think saying that large quarries are inefficient is a bit of an over statement. While for the purpose of gathering diamonds that statement may hold true. Mining is also important for gathering large amounts of stone, coal, iron. All of which are very easily gotten through quarrying. I tend to use quarries as most of my builds use stone. And when I need diamonds I will strip mine, as my chances for finding diamonds are increased, and my collection of resources like stone is decreased.
The 1.18 cave system will likely not make caving for diamonds efficient. Many people don't seem to realize this, but ancient debris was specifically coded to never be exposed to air (yes there is the occasional fluke but 99.99% of ancient debris is hidden). From what I remember, they're planning on doing the same with diamonds, and some ores like lapis will have a "reduced exposure".
I build a lot of quarry mines. I know they're inefficient to find diamond and similar, but I mainly do it to dig up a lot of stone fast (during the early game, when you don't have more stone than you can store yet.)
The fact that over half this video is about the first three years of aplha's and beta's instead of its nine years of updated releases after that, means you can really just change change this series to "What was '______' like before the game even released." and nothing would change.
Been playing since 2012, with hundreds of hours in survival minecraft and never had I heard nor thought of the 1x1 strip mine. I am disappointed in myself haha
In my opinion, you still missed 1 technique, my favoritr, I'm not sure if I came up with it but I never saw it from any other sources. All you need is a riptide trident, respiration helmet, a door, and optionally an aqua affinity helmet. You go thru caves and ravines and with a fortune 3 pickaxe I usually get a stack of diamonds ever 10-20 minutes, although that's not it's strong suit. It's strong suit is how fast you can get every other material, like coal, iron, and lapus. I think it's the fastest for those materials (besides tnt mining but like tnt mining). Also, I think regular strip mining is faster than crawl mining with an efficiency 5 pickaxe, as you can go much faster and with thorns you don't have to worry about mobs anyways.
@3:44 that’s one of my favorite Minecraft play throughs. DavidAngel64 is the UA-camd. It’s old school UA-cam now so under edited and really really early Minecraft
In my first world I built a 10x10 shaft and then a 20x20 shaft. Insane to think how inefficient that was but back then we legit thought it was the best way to mine. Now the wiki tells you how common ores are and at what level making it obvious to focus mining at lower levels.
I do a pretty standard strip mine, but instead of only digging a few blocks to each side, every branch becomes its own tunnel. I also bridge over smaller lava lakes in order to continue, but I'll stop the tunnel at bigger lakes, ravines and such. This way I end up with a giant lattice 2 blocks tall, with 2x2 pillars of stone exposing the biggest possible surface area. It's a little harder since the cave update, but having one mine at y=10 and one at y=-54 has worked well enough.
I remember starting minecraft in beta as a kid without sprinting and being so scared of mobs in mines to the point that i wouldnt even mine for diamonds :D Funny how now mobs are just an inconvenience
I generally just do a 2 high hallway then dig 1 high 5 deep holes in the walls every 3rd block or so. This doesn't really give certainty that your getting everything but as you don't have to change your perspective while mining, its easier and doesn't waste time moving the camera around while mining. Also since most veins include at least 2 blocks; there isn't really a need to see every block as long as you see what is on either side of it.

Cool, random person which i've never heard of
Hallo, nice to meet you here... ;-)
That's so insane because I remember I used to watch TheShadowCaves whole series about how to do stuff in minecraft and once I saw that first clip at 0:41 I was instantly thrown back in time to the good days when life was simple
Why is all of his replies hahaha or hahaha true? TheMisterEpic is robot confirmed? Mark Zuckerburg and TheMisterEpic collab?!😳
Hahaha hahaha true
@@TheMisterEpic oh no. Love ur vids btw, been watching since 3.47k
Mining has gotten so complex over the years lol. Different techniques, etc. Its crazy how smart players have gotten..
Also: once again, you have given me more nostalgia. I always come to your channel when I want nostalgia. :)
This is your year your getting 1 mil this year i can tell. And probably even more.
TheMisterEpic: You cannot progress in Minecraft without mining.

Never been this early
Love the content coming form a fellow Aussie
Hey can u guys check out my recent video? No hate if you don’t tho.

Strip mining is where you clear out fast spaces, and Branch mining is where you dig the many tunnels. Many people are still unaware of this.
Wow I’m really early also misterepic you are my favorite Minecraft youtuber! Keep up the good work ❤️
:)
@@TheMisterEpic Thank you for the heart that never happened to me before 😀🙂
Mining is however not only about uncovering most blocks per block mined, but also the speed at which you mine. With an effeciency diamond pick the slower crawl speed is the bottle neck of mining speed, therefore standard strip mining is actually more effective (at least if tou gave effeciency
Bro X's lets play of Minecraft was what got me into the game back in 2010. He's one of the true OGs

@@icy5122 umm dude if you want to grow your channel then dont do it thro comments ima watch it and see if it is good
Everybody comment your favorite mining technique! (My favorite is strip mining and turning in every direction when I find diamonds. You can get a full set in about three hours, if you're lucky)

10:30 the other disadvantage is that it's, claustrophobic as HELL...
Mining is going to completely change with the cave update
Seeing alternating ladders instantly brought me back to the days of Alpha Minecraft
Man I miss David's minecraft videos, brings back so much childhood memories
The 1.18 cave system will likely not make caving for diamonds efficient. Many people don't seem to realize this, but ancient debris was specifically coded to never be exposed to air (yes there is the occasional fluke but 99.99% of ancient debris is hidden). From what I remember, they're planning on doing the same with diamonds, and some ores like lapis will have a "reduced exposure".

loot chests: *"Allow us to introduce ourselves"*
I build a lot of quarry mines. I know they're inefficient to find diamond and similar, but I mainly do it to dig up a lot of stone fast (during the early game, when you don't have more stone than you can store yet.)
Shows giant tnt mine machine: "This might even become mainstream!"
Me: *Im going to have to stop you right there.*
The fact that over half this video is about the first three years of aplha's and beta's instead of its nine years of updated releases after that, means you can really just change change this series to "What was '______' like before the game even released." and nothing would change.
the concept/idea of minecraft is so incredibly genius yet simple
Been playing since 2012, with hundreds of hours in survival minecraft and never had I heard nor thought of the 1x1 strip mine.
I am disappointed in myself haha
*Now you know how to start a Minecraft ore tycoon*
Waiting for the mining strategy where somebody gets 6 block efficiency
In my first world I built a 10x10 shaft and then a 20x20 shaft. Insane to think how inefficient that was but back then we legit thought it was the best way to mine. Now the wiki tells you how common ores are and at what level making it obvious to focus mining at lower levels.
Honestly i still dig up whole chunks because i make small mineshafts out of them and find it satisfying to see a whole chunk get delet
That ladder space ladder thing at 0:58 gave me a wave of nostalgia
I generally just do a 2 high hallway then dig 1 high 5 deep holes in the walls every 3rd block or so. This doesn't really give certainty that your getting everything but as you don't have to change your perspective while mining, its easier and doesn't waste time moving the camera around while mining. Also since most veins include at least 2 blocks; there isn't really a need to see every block as long as you see what is on either side of it.
