Because he was actually Islamophobic and showed incorrect history in the movie , plus heeramandi is also a work of fiction nothing 100% accurately portrayed in the series , it was there in the disclaimer too
Another series you should watch is "JUBILEE" that takes place in the 1940's and 50's, and is kind of like the behind the scenes of the hindi film industry. It's an amazing series 😍

Also the series is from the pre independence era ,where Pakistan was a part of India and this story lies from the region of Lahore which is currently now in Pakistan and also the capital of Pakistan today.
Well these women shown here are courtesans who used to perform for nawabs(kings) and at that time courtesans was respected and have powers too but Britishers try to occupy that area and they defamed them as prostitutes and later Britishers got success in occupying that rich area called heeramandi (heera means diamond and mandi means market) refering to market of courtesans/prostitutes, in history both good and bad have been written about this heeramandi ,let's see how's the series story goes ,I am assuming it will be mostly fictional and some ideas taken can be real
The plot might be based on Heeramandi of Lahore but these cultural influences, language & traditions are closer to Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh than Lahore of Punjab. Lucknow was basically the city of Nawabs & Tawaifs and is the place where Urdu is spoken natively unlike Lahore where native language is Punjabi!
Lahore isn't capital of Pakistan, its Islamabad brother.

Tawaifs were there in many cities including Heeramandi of Lahore but Lucknow is specifically known for their heritage!

Why people from North India thinks South Film Industry makes Cringe movie's just because they have watched KGF Pushpa Rrr and many more mass masala movies. South Industry have done content driven film also however they haven't watched content driven film from Any South or regional movies.
