김영재 명인은 국가무형문화재 제16호 거문고산조 예능보유자로 국립전통예술학교 거문고 교사와 예술부장, 전남대학교 국악과, 한국예술종합학교 전통예술원 교수를 역임하며 인재 양성에 힘써왔다. 2013년 예능보유자 지정 후에는 신쾌동류 거문고산조 보존회를 구성, 거문고산조의 계승과 발전에 이바지하며 꾸준한 활동을 이어오고 있다. 국악의 발전을 위해 힘써온 명인의 공로를 인정받아 KBS 국악대상, 대한민국문화예술상, 임방울국악상 등을 수상했으며 특히 2015년에는 방일영 국악상을 수상하였다.
Master Kim Young-jae is renowned as a custodian of the Geomungo Sanjo, a prestigious form of Korean music designated as National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 16. His commitment to cultivating talent is evident through his roles as a geomungo instructor and head of the arts department at the National School of Traditional Arts, and as a professor at both Chonnam National University's Department of Korean Traditional Music and the Korean National University of Arts' School of Traditional Arts. After being recognized as a master artist in 2013, he established the Shin Kwae-dong Style Geomungo Sanjo Preservation Society, playing a vital role in safeguarding and enhancing the art of geomungo sanjo. Master Kim's efforts in promoting Korean traditional music have been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including the KBS Traditional Music Award, the Republic of Korea Cultural Arts Award, and the Im Bang-ul Korean Music Award. A highlight of his career came in 2015 when he was awarded the prestigious Bang Il-young Korean Traditional Music Award.

"신쾌동류 거문고산조(Shin Kwae-dong Style Geomungo Sanjo)"
신쾌동류 거문고산조는 신쾌동이 구성하여 현재까지 전하고 있는 거문고산조이다. 신쾌동은 백낙준(白樂俊, 1876-1930)에게 거문고산조를 사사하였고, 많은 연주 활동을 하면서 제자들에게 전수하였다. 1967년 국가무형문화재 거문고산조 예능보유자로 지정받았으며 현재는 그의 제자인 김영재가 보유자이다. 신쾌동류 거문고산조는 그의 스승인 백낙준에게 전수받은 가락에 본인의 가락을 더해 50여 분의 산조로 구성했는데, 진양-중모리-중중모리-엇모리-자진모리-휘모리의 순서로, 총 여섯 장단이다. 백낙준의 가락에서 휘모리를 추가하고, 엇모리와 중중모리는 새롭게 구성하였다. 신쾌동류 거문고산조는 다른 유파에 비해, 역동적인 시김새와 탄법이 인상적이며 굵은 선의 가락, 명쾌한 조의 구분과 화려한 꾸밈이 특징이다.
The Shin Kwae-dong Style Geomungo Sanjo, a unique style of geomungo sanjo music, was originally composed by Shin Kwae-dong and has been preserved through generations to this day. A student of Baek Nak-jun (1876-1930), Shin Kwae-dong not only mastered geomungo sanjo but also passionately imparted his knowledge to his students. In recognition of his mastery, he was named a National Intangible Cultural Heritage holder for geomungo sanjo in 1967, a distinction now held by his student, Kim Young-jae. This particular style of geomungo sanjo, lasting around 50 minutes, blends Baek Nak-jun’s teachings with Shin's innovative additions. The composition unfolds in a sequence of six rhythmic cycles: Jinyang, Jungmori, Jungjungmori, Eotmori, Jajinmori, and Huimori. Shin not only added Huimori to Baek Nak-jun’s original melodies but also created Eotmori and Jungjungmori. The Shin Kwae-dong Style Geomungo Sanjo stands out among other styles for its dynamic, ornate sound and performance technique, marked by robust melodic lines, distinct modal clarity, and intricate decorative flourishes.

〈장교동 한규설 가옥〉
서울시 민속문화재 제7호인 한규설 가옥은 1890년대에 지은 것으로 원래 중구 장교동에 있던 집을 1980년 12월에 국민대학교로 옮겨 새로 지었다. 대한제국 의정부 참정대신(총리)을 지낸 한규설(1848-1930)이 살았던 곳으로 조선시대 양반가옥의 형식을 갖추면서도 서구의 실용성을 반영한 건물이다. 한규설은 을사조약을 끝까지 반대하다 파면되었으며, 일제강점기에는 조선교육회를 설립하는 등 독립운동에 투신하였던 인물이다.
〈The Han Gyu-seol Residence in Janggyo-dong〉
Recognized as Seoul's Folk Cultural Property No. 7, the Han Gyu-seol Residence, constructed in the 1890s, originally stood in Janggyo-dong, Jung-gu. It was moved and rebuilt at Kookmin University in December 1980. This historic home belonged to Han Gyu-seol (1848-1930), who held the position of Chamsaengdaesin (akin to Prime Minister) in the Korean Empire's Cabinet. The architecture of the house is a fine representation of a Joseon Dynasty yangban (aristocratic) home, uniquely blending traditional Korean elements with Western practicality. Han Gyu-seol, known for his firm opposition to the Eulsa Treaty, was relieved of his duties and became a prominent figure in the fight for independence during the Japanese occupation, notably founding the Joseon Education Association.
