    I had a doubt ma'am.. usually when we say that there's repeated stimulation, it's associated with downregulation of receptors right? eg in case of drug tachyphylaxis.. So why doesn't a similar thing happen with long term potentiation?

      Very good question…it is based on up regulation and down regulation of receptors …in long term potential ion inherent mechanism by NMDA receptors causes increase in number of receptors and also increase in neurotransmitter release…
