  • As the flight to Antarctica draws closer, Ben and Tarka finish off all the last bits of expedition prep - including packing all the food, customising the skis and shaving off all the unnecessary weight to their kit that they possibly can.
In October 2013 Ben Saunders and Tarka L'Herpiniere are departing on arguably the most ambitious polar journey in history - an 1800 mile unsupported return journey from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole retracing Captain Scott's footsteps.
It will be the longest unsupported polar journey in history and first time Scott's route is completed.

An amazing video. This is one of my favourite expedition preparation videos. I just wish you guys had made this a really long like 15 - 30 minute one, where you explained all of your equipment. That would be really cool. Any chance of a follow up video to this now? p.s. How was your expedition? Any more planed?

Wow, this gives a great insight into just what a huge logistics exercise this challenge brings. A really interesting video.

Lightening thet toothbrush made me think of that couple on NGC or Discovery some years back trekking Africa or something - They clipped off all clothing tabs, extra fabric and all they could find excessive. They got a kilo or there about = 1 liter of water:-) Like you do later had I seen more than 15 seconds...

So worth doing on the longer expeditions! It gives me satisfaction when I’m packing and start doing that.. It means the adventure is soon to begin!

Holes in tooth brush, name tags cut off. But then 60 lbs of packing material for food. Makes sense.

Instead cutting the toothbrush and clothes labels you could leave few days food unpacked.

I think the most efficient way would be storing a lot of fat in your liver. Like geese. The natural way.

Why are you taking 2 pairs of skins each rather than just changing the skins?

Imagine changinging your skins in a snowstorm at -40°C with mittens on...

Music is way too loud. You're hard to understand. No captions, even auto-generated. A lot of very unique and usefull advice is going down the drain :/
