- This is an inexpensive Stand Up Assist Casting Bar that can be mounted either on a track system or to the hull using an aluminum walker purchased from a thrift store and bimini top parts. Total cost of project less than $30.
Parts:
Walker: Aluminum 1 inch in diameter tubing
Bimini Top Parts: www.amazon.com...
Marine deck Hinge: www.amazon.com...
Making my own after watching your video! One thing that I have came across that others may encounter, my rails are spaced wider apart (by about 3 inches) than the vertical legs. I am going to cut the handle area in half and use the adjustable piece (since I know it will already fit over the diameter of the tubing) as a spanner to mount the two pieces back together. That should allow for a few extra inches of play depending on track layout in different kayaks. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks Nate. I like the spanner idea.
I really like your design. Simple , yet functional. I've got the same type of Walker to use for a Hobie Mirage sport.
Thanks Stanley.
Very clever! You have one of the best Kayak channels on UA-cam
Thanks!
Another great idea from Aksman. The factory standup bars are priced too high, so I just never bothered (kind of a luxury item). Keep it coming as I steal your ideas with pride!
Haha. You can't steal something that's free. Thanks!
Slick idea. I just have to steal my mom's walker and take it apart. Kidding. I think it looks great without paint.
Lol. Thanks Wayn.
This is great. I'm going to attempt a version to mount on my Kaboat, which I'll have to strap to D rings on the outside of the Air tubes. I'm wondering if the top handle should wrap around you instead of come toward you. Please let us know if you turn that top tube/handle around so it surrounds you some. Thanks for the video.
that is a cool idea with the walker , I went fishing in my Pelican canoe today and even though I can stand up I though it would be cool to have some kind of support this is great thanks !
Thanks Bob.
A+ brotha...looks like you bought it...thats the diy videos i like...not the ones that look like a bunch of crap that someone duct taped together
Thanks Dave.
Great job. Your entire setup looks very nice.
Thanks Brian.
Very crafty.
Good work!
Thanks Mike.
Very neat!! Thanks for the idea, this is exactly what i need to install for my kayak this spring👍🏼
Thanks!
awesome job .. imagination and ingenuity !
Thanks Are Lee!
Bloody good job. Well thought out and executed! Cann we have a video of it in use please! You have great content!
Thank you!
Dude this is awesome, very nice looking and very professional looking, I am in the process of making an outrigger, adjustable on my yak, all aluminum, all parts from lowes, can be lifted out of water when ready to paddle, very stable, add about 75 lbs of bouncy to my yak, heading to the gulf stream soon, but not until I put my jet engine on it.
Thanks. Post some pics of your project when you can.
Thomas Janssens I have a Nu Canoe F12 , what are you using for parts ?
Thank you for sharing your videos big muscles
Lol! Thanks Luis.
Nice build!
Thank you Martin.
thanx i've used a few of your ideas in my build !!
Thanks Craig.
I'm glad I saved your video a couple weeks ago I was at my local convenience center near Lake Keowee / Walhalla and there were 3 Walkers leaning up against a fence. I got them and will be using your video to reference to build a stand assist for my #BigTuna
Great!
Don't Laugh at me, but I was given a portable potty seat by my sister in law, took all the potty elements and the frame fits perfect, it is also adjustable on all four legs and I can make it higher or lower, I ordered the Bimini parts and once they are here I will mount it to Kayak, I am still working on the adjustable out riggers, trying to get together all the parts I need, I am very close, I once again want to Thank You for posting this video and giving us all some awesome advice on how to make a stand up assist bar
Thank you Thomas. I like your DIY porta potty seat idea. Please post pics when you finish it.
if u turned the main bar around it might give u more room [just a thought]. i'm making on but the could not find the type u used , will use side of walker for front bar . thanks again !! wi post a pic when done.
Thanks again Craig. I thought of that too but it would make it harder to grab. You could always crawl under it and lean your back against it.
@@Aksmaniyak you answered my question about the main bar facing away or around you. Thx!
You are welcome Jeff.
I will post my project once done
Great idea, and looks awesome !!!
Thanks XXavier.
You should have put the beanding top end the other way. So its going out wards. It would allow you to fit in the bend. More room.
You could do that but then it wouldn't be close enough to help you stand up.
Those walkers are stronger than the $200-$300 premade stuff you get.
True. Most have a 200-300 pound load rating.
Great Video,thanks for the idea!
Thanks!
What a clever ideal! Would your bar allow a person with a bad knee to enter and exit the kayak, or would that put too much torque on the structure? Also, once seated, is the bar strong enough to allow pulling yourself up? Thank you.
Thanks! Yes, it is strong enough to support getting in and out of a kayak. It is strong enough to pull yourself up too. It is stronger in the forward/backward directions than side to side.
@@Aksmaniyak Thanks again, you’ve given me hope.
BUT ~ if you see me floating by, please use your boat hook!
Pretty sick
Just got my first kayak
Kinda surprised how expensive stuff is
Thanks Gack. Yep, that is why DIY is so popular with many people.
Great idea and I'm heading to the store to pick up an old walker tomorrow. Questions: 1. what gear did you use to attach the poly plates to the tracs? 2. Can you tell me where to get the fittings you used? Bimini?
Thanks Kenneth. The parts links are listed in the narrative. This link to another video shows how to make the attachments. ua-cam.com/video/IbFReZeH1V0/v-deo.html
Great job!
Thanks Joseph.
What are the deck hinges for?
I’m totally doing this bro, thank you!!
You are welcome. Which hinges?
I have frontier 12 ..can you show parts ordered and where to order ..Thanks
The parts are listed in the narrative.
My mum wont be very happy when I steal her walker.
LOL!
Can you bend the aluminum a little? The width is to narrow.
You could. You could also widen the base mounts to make up the difference.
Just curious what did you use to put them in your track I need to do this for my catch power 100 I’m a big guy
Hi. The parts are listed in the narrative.
Ok I see the Amazon stuff and watched the cutting board part but that dont show you how to place the bar in the track mount and tighten it no worries I’ll figure it out thanks
@@rondumb6055 Hi. The bolts just slide into the track.
No videos of you using this ?
No, I usually only do overall modification and shakedown cruise videos.
My problem is finding walked like that ...All ones I find are collapsible ones not your type ....
Very true. I was lucky and found 2 at different thrift shops.
Hi from France ! Do you have instagram ? I would like to have your opinion on a walker please
No sorry, but I am on this Facebook page that you can join and post to. facebook.com/groups/3521517597860461
