It's actually Dave's fault for the dress thing, if you really think about it. There's a long history, at least in the Western World of men wearing dresses in comedy shows going all the way back to Ancient Greece, where male Actors would put on women's dresses and act like women, because women didn't act on stage with men. And as TK talked about it, there were a lot of popular black comedians including Eddie Murphy in the 90's and before (i.e. the Nutty Professor) who had done movies or shows where they'd put on dresses and there was little to no serious backlash they received from it. But then Chappelle did that interview on Oprah about the industry, and the rest is history; which is why it's hilarious to see that Howard Stern clip. Chappelle did more to popularize the idea that wearing a dress was a purposeful act by the entertainment industry to marginalize and destroy the image of Black men, and given how big of a celebrity he was at that time, and how viral and impactful that era of his life was (he's still getting paid based off of it), it shouldn't be surprising that he made doing so, the taboo that it is today, especially among brothas.
