thank you. for the feedback. yes the gasket had busted and the water has leaked to the engine block. we removed all and replaced the gasket. also checked the head floor level and block floor level for further leaks. no issues. now engine is running. we are monitoring. thank you for the advice.
You should have added more pressure to see if it will start letting some air out past the designated pressure of 15 psi. That's how you know that it is not stuck.
As a matter of fact I did. Last week I pressure tested with a friend of mine who is a Auto Mechanic. I'm an amateur but I have to say my engine, reservoir and new radiator cap are MUCH cooler since I installed my new cap which is a very good sign that this may have been the source of my overheating?
I'm sure it does. Just didn't see the procedure in the video. Anyway, I will be replacing a defective radiator that destroyed my head by blowing off the upper radiator hose (new rad & bad bad fitting design). Been down for a year and finally just got it running. Not sure, but I suspect the cap isn't releasing at rated 13 lb. So when I replace cap, still want to test new one. Would make me feel a lot better after experiencing thousand dollar plus loss not to mention time. Would auto-part store have such test equipment?
Jake Jones yeah..u can rent it for free..when u start to pressurize the cap with the tool..u keep pumping..and you will see that u can pump beyond the rated pressure of the cap

That would have simulated the coolant passing through the rad cap pressure release valve to the coolant reservoir tank, if I'm not mistaken. Thanks anyways. Still a very useful video 👌
the top seal under the cap keeps the coolant system sealed? if that seal is leaking you may not get flow back into the radiator when the system cools creating the vacum and instead will allow air to be pulled into the system.producing an air cavity

I want to know how to check if the cap opens up to draw back the coolant from the overflow tank. My cap was new about 8 months ago, but the coolant often does not return from the overflow bottle when the system cools down.
klowny1969, good video, but as I was watching your video I was expecting you exceed the rated 16 psi of the cap with the test pump in order to demonstrate the cap actually releases the excess pressure and stop at 16 psi. Also, if your stant tool is capable or using other vacuum pump tool otherwise, I was hoping you'd demonstrate the opposite - vacuuming - to simulate the scenario when the coolant cools, and vacuum release action of the cap kicking in. I hope you'd do another video to show these 2 actions, which are the main tasks of a radiator cap.
klowny1969, ok, but I said that because I didn't hear you in the video saying/emphasizing you're trying to exceed the pressure while pumping. Like I said, I hope you'd do a video to show the workings of the vacuum release mechanism.
