Budgie, War Horse, Captain Beyond, Dust, Quatermass, War Pig, Sir Lord Baltimore, Weed, Lucifers Friend, Trapeze, Blueberry Pancake, Baker Gurvitz Army, Dog Soldier, Bullet, Eloy, Roky Erickson, Bullet, Gun, Cactus, Elf, so many amazing bands that got lost in the shadow of the big name artists.

I saw Detective when they opened for Led Zeppelin and they were really rocking. Moxy should have gone far they were incredible live. The 70's hard rock band No Dice should be here. they're like a cross between Bad Company and Humble Pie with the Faces thrown in together.

Great episode that I'm watching 4 years too late. Happy to see you had the most enthusiasm for Sir Lord Baltimore. The Captain Beyond debut album is absolutely one of my favorite hard rock albums to this day and a timeless masterpiece!
Top to bottom this album just rocks with every song and with a sound unlike others. The lead-in from one song to the next is a great twist to the convention as this album stands alone for creativity and well ahead of its time...

Bloodrock had similarities to early GFR, because they were both managed/produced by Terry Night. Underrated band, Time Piece, DOA, Jessica, Melvin Laid an egg, are all great songs. Nitzenger contributed to many of the early bloodrock albums. Nitzenger's debut album is also killer, one of my all time favorites. Moxy was also great, their first album was their best, with Buzz Shearman, I also like Riding High album. Atomic Rooster, love their stuff, black snake! Overall, great picks!

I grew up in the seventies, heavy rock was everything for me. I enjoyed both shows a lot! Some obvious bands/albums that should have been included: Portrait of the Artist as a young Ram (Ram Jam), Sweet Evil (Derringer), Violation (Starz), Godz debut album, Fool for the City (Foghat), Making magic (Pat Travers), Just a Game (Triumph), Yesterday & Today, Accept debut album, If you don’t rock now (Downtrip), Trust debut album, St Paradise, Goddo debut

Again sorry for being so late. Excellent show as always.
But also surprised with some of the obvious omissions in this 2nd segment as I was the first (the first segment glaring omissions were Sweet, ZZ Top and Black Oak Arkansas if their careers bled into the 70s count), but in this second segment obscure bands omitted could be White Witch, and NOT so obscure but hugely influential were Blue Cheer and of course Vanilla Fudge (both 60s bands that bled into 70s too) - Deep Purple basically acknowledged to have copied their sound... I'm sure there are more but these are just off the top of y head.

Can't believe Dust wasn't mentioned . Every time I heard German Prog I kept thinking Eloy . Some great albums . Some Heavy songs to consider are Hawkwind - Magnu 1975 , as well as Master of the Universe 1971 . UFO - 1 hour Space Rock 1971 album rivals Black Sabbath in sheer discomfort , and depressive Heaviness . Pre Schenker guitar virtuosity displayed by the mysterious Mick Bolton . Force It by UFO could of been considered Heavy Metal , it rivals Obsession for UFO at their best , and hardest Rocking albums . Another great band that could be considered a mix of Montrose , and The Mighty Legs Diamond would be Dirty Tricks . Angel - Under Suspicion from the White Hot album could be considered one of the Heaviest songs of the 1970s . It's often overlooked due to the fact it's the only Heavy track on the White Hot album.

I have some of the "TOAD" (2 live albums), a great band from Sweden, heavy blues and hard dynamic rock and roll, Sir Lord Baltimore, is another heavy metal band, from the very early years of good heavy rock bands, IRON CLAW (Scottish band), they sound more or less like Black Sabbath, although their sound is darker and deeper than Sabbath if you ask me; another band people do not know a lot is HOOKFOOT (I have the live album), they were a kind of funky-rock mix and they used to be the support band for Elton Jonh in some of his songs.
if you try "BEDEMON" (aka PENTAGRAM) their pre- PENTAGRAM ......... is a kick-ass sound of pure very heavy doom metal.
TRUTH & JANEY, another band from the USA, these guys were influenced a lot by CREAM as you can clearly hear it in their sound.

RIOT's FIRE DOWN UNDER album is the most underrated hard rock album of all time! Every track just shines with ferocity, complete skill and command of dynamics and white hot melodies, energy through the freakin' roof.....topped off with Guy's world class vocals! It is the first thing I play for unsuspecting friends and I never fail to see the same reaction every single time-JAWS DROPPING TO THE FLOOR and the question: "Oh my God, who are these guys?" as a big, shit eating grin comes across their face! The Narita album will also punch a hole in the universe! sakblabbath65 - NICE!

@@FlashframeFilms Oh man! I can only imagine how good they were live-up close! Riot should have been the headliner at most of those shows, I mean the Narita album and especially the Fire Down Under album are complete ass kickers! Awesome riffs, on fire rhythm section, and Guy's perfect hard rock voice..... Did they absolutely nail it, live? Was the crowd blown away, yourself included? Did you see them play the Fire Down Under material? YOU LUCKY BASTARD! You were in the presence of greatness! take care, Treff

Yo Treff, totally agree with you on all of ur Riot statements! Just an incredible hard rock outfit. Yeah Fire Down Under was their big breakout album at the time with “Swords & Teauilla” getting a decent amount of airplay on local hard rock radio. They definitely had all the right parts & pieces to be a killer, big time breakout band, but just never seemed to get to that next tier of popularity.

Hi Pete. Some excellent choices there. Stellar bands and albums. But there is one band that I rate above all-comers, be it underground or more main stream bands and that band is Jericho. It's criminal how seldom they are talked about but IMO they are at the very top of the heap. Above Zeppelin, DP, Sabbath etc etc. There - I said it.

Klaatu Hope 1977 was my get high and impresses the honor students with my musical taste album. Klaatu debut Sgt Pepperish studio album was accompanied with rumor that secrete band was reunited Beatles. Hope was theme album about people leaving dying planet in spaceship in search of new home. It has one of the most impressive endings using every trick in music class. If you never heard or dismissed Hope because it was too operatic at least give “madman” a listen to wet your interest. Your grown up now, it might be amazing.

Hi again Pete, sorry for all the posts. I think I missed this video and now have a list of bands to check out. A band I found maybe 3 years ago might be included here, Stray. I love this band, great hard rock from the 70s. Their first album I think was either 69 or 70 and does really have that 60s British sound, but after that, just amazing. I'm curious to hear your opinion on the band. Take care!!

I knew Vince Crane of Atomic Rooster (because of my work) in the late 80s - he dressed like Neil from the Young Ones (hippy) and we had a few excellent liquid lunches in London. Him in double denim and massive flares, in an old-fashioned pub near Piccadilly! At the time slightly embarrassing because suited businessmen sneered at his appearance (and there was me looking like a reject from Faster Pussycat or Skid Row). But I loved his vibe, and we got on well (kindred spirits, man!). Some nice choices on here by the way - Sir Lord, Jeronimo, Stray Dog, Point Blank etc., I already knew about and loved... but some of the others were new to me and well worth checking out. Thanks for not making this overblown like some reviewers do. Cheers!

The Stray Dog debut has a cover of “Cheverlot” released less than a year after the ZZ Top original. Guitarist Snuffy Walden had BALLS. His documentary tells his crazy story.

Target from Memphis with Jimmy Jamison is very good. Saw them warm up Peter Frampton and two other times. Maybe reminds me of some Bad Company. Jimmy was a great front man.

Wow, Bloodrock. Respect!...I’m glad you mentioned Captain Beyond. They opened for Yes on their Close to the Edge tour. I had never heard of them. They nearly blew Yes off the stage if you can imagine that. The next day I found their second LP, Sufficiently Breathless. It turned out to be my favorite, a little more style and production than their first, which was a tall order. So they did two records and disappeared from the the earth, save for some failed efforts later in the decade.....and as another one said below, Bobby Caldwell did CB first, Armageddon a few years later. He also played with J Winter.........Budgie and Trapeze?

I have Captain Beyond's first and second album. I think the first is superior to the second although I love "Sufficiently Breathless" and "Evil Men". Glad to find many fans of the Captain here.
