I’ve really been enjoying videos from “smaller” creators like yourself. I’m actually connecting with a real and regular person - not some influencer demanding that I build an “empire” and “generational wealth”. Also, it’s very easy to follow your coherent communication style.

I'm just trying to pay for rent, food, diapers and look after a family. If i can invest & save.

Happy new years. I can really relate to this as well. I'm 36 years old now. I know my strengths and weaknesses, I'm an alright web dev. Want an app made in next ? Sure. Remix ? No problem, I'll figure it out. But I'm never gonna be that one dev rocks every leetcode problem and knows how to scale apps like Netflix does.
I'm tired of being a developer. It takes a lot of energy, and more importantly often it's also not very fulfilling. Often you end up doing something only for it to be scrapped 1 week before it was supposed to be released. Often you just implement shit that annoys users to make some extra profit.
For now my goal is by the time I'm 40 I want to code at least 50% less than I do now. How I don't know. Management? If I can't do that I'll try transitioning into doing freelance 3 times a week or something else.

a big reason why is autistic mega nerds made web-dev life (in JS ecosystem) a hellish treadmill JUST to create essentially the same crap we could just do in Laravel + PHP or NodeJS + Express + markup

Hedonic adaptation gets to all of us at some point, but the fear of losing what you’ve gained can paralyze you into inaction.
All I can say is that we all face some form of regret, whether it’s from staying in the same loop or taking shots and missing. The real question is, what kind of story do you want to tell yourself when you look back? Which form of regret would you rather endure?
Thanks for this video, bud. Wishing you the best this year! 🇨🇦

More like Richard Stallman in his younger days. I was 100% sure he's some low level guru, maybe OS or kernel developer. I was quite shocked when React came up. But that explains why he doesn't enjoy programming anymore 😂

As an engineer at a stable job in his 30s, this resonates with me greatly. One mindset that has helped me stay invested in coding is to actively look for ways to make my day-to-day work easier (e.g. infra improvements, alarms, etc) so that I can put less effort. Ironically, this has the effect of growing my skills, which keeps me employable and valued on the job.

Relatable. I'm a dev moving to Tokyo in the summer. I made a career change into this field a few years ago because of the job opportunities, but I realize now that I will never be an elite engineer, either. I don't have the energy to make another career switch right now, so plan to just chill in a 9-5 in Tokyo for a bit and see what other opportunities I can find once I have the energy to push toward another path again

I'm just a year after uni working a web dev job in my country and I can already feel this way. It was exciting to work at first, but now it just feels more like a torture. I spend 5 days a week at home looking at a screen solving technical problems I don't care about. And at the end of the day I'm so drained I don't wanna do anything. I can't accept I'll have to do this for the next 20 or so years.
I've tried to work on some of my own projects but haven't earned much from them and abandoned most. Now I don't have much motivation. Maybe changing a company would help, but it wouldn't solve the underlying issues.
Would be nice to come to Japan for a language school and work in IT afterwards. I'm afraid that I wouldn't handle the job culture there though end eventually just leave.
Looking forward to hearing your take on working only half a week.

Dude, I am 36 male, with 5 years of experience. I mainly develop with React Native. But I am tired of using it, due to its limitations. I have been freelancing in the last 1 year, but looking for full-time job but it seems conditions are harder now.
I am learning Kotlin-Jetpack compose, to see how native side works. Maybe I tried to publish a app to see if it grows or not.
I am applying jobs but it is annoying. It is annoying to spend time for CV-cover letter, being reject, even not hearding. I am constantly switching between "Find a job" | "Forget it, work your own idea.". Any way, I have at least 16 hours a day but rarely utilize it.

In some countries it's an earned title (like doctor or lawyer) so it's illegal to misuse it. Japan makes it easy to pass for one as they katakanized the English word. And they love overblown titles on business cards; I had an "Engineer" coworker who had no technical background or skills whatsoever, and I mean not even in another field (that wasn't needed for the job). There's 技師 as well but I never heard it in the context of IT.

I was working in the low level programming domain, it was my first job after passing out from college. But it was too much work but it was good work , taught me a lot about the underlying principles of how a CPU works. So, I left it. Started working on my own thing, building trading tools using the soy stack. But soy stack is actually kind of nice, to ship products fast. But yes, I will not spend my whole life building tools using JS, had a blast when I learned about the auto garbage collection of these high level languages. When I build things in JS, the code just doesn't feel like its mine.
Yes, I'm an Indian, will be coming to Japan in probably like in July and will work with 1/3 rd of what you get paid. But my work will never match the quality of yours. You have more experience, because of which the 3x pay you get is worth it to the employer. I have just graduated, so I might not know much about failing as you do. But building something of value takes time, and you can always take time out of your day to work on it.
    Goodluck.
