- 'Avalon' was a hit for Jolson in 1920. I love the way she starts with a leisurely andante but starts tapping sixteenth notes on her hip. Why? You find out why eight bars later when the brass kicks in. Yep, she was telegraphing her tempo! The entire telecast is wonderful. Music lovers, do yourself a favor and buy the CD or DVD online now.
She is awesome and so enjoyable to listen to and watch !!!
Her timing is impeccable...that band is smoking!!
Yep. This is my favorite O'Day filmed concert. Half a century later.
She looks great. Sounds great.
I love how hard that Japanese band swings too...everyone was on point here!
The great Anita O´Day. Supported of a great bigband.
Great Big Band great jazz !!!!!
We should all be aware that somehow this amazing set of performances from Japan ( when she was kind of barred from American gigs) is now severely restricted. Much of this performance is either truncated or no longer available on UA-cam at all, "copyright restrictions ", et al. These recordings dont make any scratch any more (sad), so why prevent young singers from having this resource, tutorial, example, inspiration?
Recorded in Studio G, Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) on December 30, 1963.
