    That went down to the wire! Both sides had fleeting opportunities to change the ever-shifting tide of battle. The mobility of the mounted units proved to be too much for the shambling horde of Undead.

    A fun to watch game! Now, about your "last-minute" question. A unit with Wild Charge HAS to test for it if it has an enemy within movement distance (it looks like the Heavy Riders could have reached them, even taking into account the need to bypass the Spears' zone of control of 3") and in line of sight (the Riders had it all along). So the Riders would have either charged or stopped, and - in both cases - wouldn't have been able to get off the table. That's exactly the idea of a Wild Charge: to prevent impetuous units from doing what YOU want them to do ;-) Also, the unit of Spears could not have formed a line to block the Riders' line of sight. First, because Wild Charges come first in the turn sequence, second, because that violates the Unit Cohesion rule (ALL models must be within 3" - 1.5" in your case - of one selected model, and third - because even with the line as it is (if it were possible) the Riders could still see the enemy.

    Don't forget to make Courage Tests (morale test) whenever a unit takes a casualty. Doesn't matter if the unit wins, loses or ties in the combat.

    Excellent game, but I think you could use some simple movement trays, mostly to speed up movement and to minimize wear and tear from handling the individual figures.

      base them on 3 to base 2 to a base and 1 to a base, this gives you 6 men.. and you can track the health quite well and slightly speed up movement, great for small scale

    The giants seem to be fragile but it may just have been the dice.
    I think you called the last wild charge correctly - the knights would have avoided the fight and left for the win.
    I cannot get my head around the ZOC with friendly troops - wonder if it comes from the greenskin vs greenskin 'hatred' often seen in other rules?

      The biggest mistake was not using 12d6 for every full strength unit regardless of model numbers. The greater warbeasts are almost impregnable against all but the strongest 6d6 attacks.

      @@TheJoyofWargaming Good spot - I forgot these rules have that quirky dice mechanism. 👏🏻

      I think that if you didn't have a ZOC around friendlies in this system, the mechanics would be screwed up and it would be hard to keep track of troop integrity for each unit. DR is different because it's all sequential driven (vs. simultaneous movement/combat/morale phases); based 100% on single unit to unit movement, combat and morale resolution. Most other systems allow you to attack a single unit with Mutiple units, or say, add all missile combat effects together. But here it's all mono a mono with sequential stages for everything.

      IIRC it uses a base number of five figures per rank. I would have very small units.

    Did I miss any house rule for combat dice? It's always 12 dice regardless of beginning strength points and 6 dice at half or less (on 6 and 3 SP's). Excellent entertainment though 😊
    -Wild chargers always... charge wildly at eligible targets but you may select target if there are more than one (unless they have hatred for any unit, those must be chosen over those they don't hate).

      @@TheJoyofWargaming It's really a shame you missed the 12 dice rule for all units at 50% strength or better as far as the battle between the warbeasts went. If you would have rolled the 12 dice per the rules, then statistically speaking the partial hit = a casualty rule for Undead types wouldn't have been nearly the advantage that it turned out to be. The expected number of hits from the Greater Beasts would have been 8; meaning 2 casualties as the expected value for lesser warbeasts when on the defense. The Lessers would have still likely caused a single wound even when on the defense, but almost NEVER 2 wounds. Odds are the Greaters would have won any combat when on the offensive and the Lessers would have been battered.

    Does War Beast cover all the monsters, or do some get specific stats (like dragons)?

    • @caleb-hines
      @caleb-hines 2 роки тому +2

      There are two categories of warbeast (greater and lesser) that are meant to cover everything. But each troop category can be further specialized by buying additional capabilities.

    • @caleb-hines
      @caleb-hines 2 роки тому +2

      And nothing says you *must* use a warbeast stat block to model something just because it's a beast. If your dragons act more like elite riders, you could certainly use that stat block to model them instead.

    Hi... Question: (at min. 19 in the rough terrain...) Why do the lesser Warbeast deal any damage? The Armour of the greater Warbeast is 4, or am i wrong? So enemys have to score min. 4 hits to do 1 Point of damage. Or is it the terrain that changes the Armour to the Warbeasts?

    • @TheJoyofWargaming
      @TheJoyofWargaming  2 роки тому +2

      "Rough terrain changes most units' Attack and Defence Values to 5+ and their Armour becomes 2 regardless of their usual profile."
      Greater warbeasts have the Ranger Trait, and so this should not apply to them. Oops.

      Also, and more importantly as to your question, @TheJoyofWargaming uses the "No Feelings Rule" for his Undead units, so they don't ever get battered and fight until their Courage roll is a modified 0 (or less), as I understand his explanation in the video. Such units are, "fragile" (this is a DR optional rule for undead), meaning that any hits inflicted during Attacks are rounded up (this includes a single hit resulting in a casualty no matter the armor value). I believe @TheJoyofWargaming should have rolled for courage tests, which would have happened after any casualties were inflicted. In the case of the Undead Greater War Beasts, their Courage is modified to a 0 however, so with 1 casualty you would always pass in any case, but not so for the heavy riders charging the bellicose foot. They should have rolled a Courage Test after any round of combat where they suffer losses.
