There are many paths to the top of the mountain. I think having some understanding of grammar rules is actually very important. So learning some grammar rules is not a bad approach. However, if learning the grammar rules becomes your main goal, it could become a barrier to output. Anyway, please try many methods of learning and find what works best for you. 一方で、脳の構造的に13歳頃から丸暗記が難しくなるので、大人になってからの第二外国語習得において論理的な整理(ここでは前置詞のイメージに基づいた使い方の原則)も有効と感じます。
この辺りの気持ちは逆にネイティブとして英語を習得した人にはわからない気がします。
