Theres always a problem about taking your head to engineering if it didnt give you any problems. 7 out 10 it will come back with some problems. Theres a saying that says "why fix it if it aint broken". Congrats on your 1st engine rebuild

Sometime the engine doesn't fire straight away,you need to advance the timing on your distributor while starting...

Oil pump pressure and ur timming belt timming is good only distributor timming needs to be advanced for faster revs

Tapping sound is because of oil pump... pressure is low get a proper oil pump cost nearly 1k those for 300+400 will still do tapping sound... once ur engine is cold again tapping sound will come back I have a mk1 as well for 5 years now

The noise you hear are thr Tappets they arent lubricated yet or the valve buckets were not set right from the machine shop, take a feeler guage and set them to spec you can find the spec on the vwclub site. AAD-ADY blocks are one of the most simplest motors ever.

Tappet noise is from the lifters or the oil pump if it comes back, i also noticed you have the incorrect distributor

Well it comes from the fuel relay that is under the driver side dashboard

Well I don't know what you should expect but the first thing make sure that you check the timing before you disassemble the engine and buy the tools and I think you're ready to go because I think it was kind of easy but scary

It will work since it's all mechanical they never really changed much the difference being that the carburettor distributor has vacuum advance and the mp9 does it automatically
@misfitsa well the mp9 distributor has 3 wires that help assist with ignition and timing (TIMING WITH THE MOTOR AND TIMING FOR INJECTION). And makes the wiring neater. Just trying to help
The are not tappets that car has hydrologic lifters especially that injector engine

The car information isnt giving the second thing u need is air which lead to compression and that means u need spark to make the car run without enigen oil u can leave everything as is 😂 and sell the car as is
