I suppose the biggest challenge to making such a miraculous repair would be to find an exact match to the original yarn, if the item is not something which you knitted yourself. Absolutely amazing process! This is light years beyond simply (ha!) picking up a dropped stitch! 😁 Thank you so much for sharing! 🥰
You're unlikely to find the perfect colour match, but if you choose something slightly darker or greyer than the original, it'll look invisible 😊 the eye just skims over it assuming it's a shadow. Or you could lean into the contrast and do some visible mending, which is its own art and can make a piece really unique.
Either way, repairing clothes is such a lovely thing to do, I respect everyone who gives it a shot!
I've tried yesterday but the wool I used was slightly thicker and slightly lighter so the result was not satisfying. But at least I get an idea of the technique. I'll try to find a better wool and try again

That is a piece of art. It takes a great deal of skill to do that. Love from Rome.
Oh my goodness. I’ve never seen anything like that. I expected the usual cruss criss weaving ive seen in youtube. But thus was incredible. It was like an ancient art. You created the actual sane knit. Im keeping this one. Of course it will never turn out like yours. But what a challenge to try. It looks absolutely lovely

It's called darning.

Nice to see people still using skills like this today, because my late Mum and Grandma were always repairing clothes like this. Sadly, too many people don’t bother to make the effort to repair clothes and just throw them out and buy new ones.
Вы правы во всем
I recently thrifted a wool sweater for my husband, after cleaning it up there was a weird wiry thread sticking out which I pulled on.
It turned out to be a reinforcing thread in a perfectly invisible repair like this one! Lucky I realised before totally unwinding it.
I love thrifting quality pieces because they have so much history. Somebody made it, somebody sold it, somebody wore it, somebody lovingly repaired it, and now it's in my hands. All these people I'll never meet are connected to me through this object. After decades of existing, a sweater can still be new and exciting to someone in a charity shop.
With thoughtful cleaning and repair, it will last for many more years. I think that's so special.
A friend with three little kids has cancer, I bought an Aran sweater from a cancer fund raising second hand shop, unwound it and created her a sweater with her kids initials in Gaelic lettering and dragons for strength. When I told her where I got the wool from she cried a little - happy tears…
@catalinacurio that's so sweet ❤️

I am a 76 years old man and probably will never have to do an artistic repair like this but I enjoyed watching your work, it was very satisfying.
Thank you so much for sharing this technique. I have a pair of socks which need to be repaired.
And using a latch hook to pick up stitches is *brilliant*. I'm going to keep one in my kit now because I'm always dropping stitches.
Fantastic.
I see...that tool is a 'latch hook'. Thanks.
Crochet hook is good too
Thanks for identifying the tool! So helpful!
I didn't realise that tool is not a crochet hook. Is there any difference?
@@ThexBlackxKitty A crochet hook is just a hook. A latch hook has a little "latch" that is a piece of metal on a hinge. In this case, the video shows the hook being inserted into a stitch and grabbing the next bar up. And the latch comes into play when you pull that bar through the stitch, because the motion causes the latch to close, keeping the yarn inside and making it a lot harder for it to slip out of the hook
AMAZING!!! ASTOUNDING!!! I gathered up all the sweaters here that need a fix. I'm so glad I waited to see this first )))))
This saved a sweater I was working on over a year ago where yarn split and I had a massive hole (4 stitches high and 20 wide). Thank you for the video!!!
yikes
I have a cardigan with holes on it that I would like to mend it. However, there are broken yarn around the hole and make the holes grow larger and larger. I can’t see any handling of broken yarns before the mending process in the video. I wonder whether this would work for my scenario 😢

What a lovely way to perfectly restore any knitted item. I love it and will try it on one of my sweater. My Mom used to do this for us all but she is gone now and it's not easy to find people that can do old fashion things like this.
I watch every step, a wonderful skill to know.
Thank you for sharing.
This is clear, nice and slower than other repair videos I have seen, and taught me how to do it with relative ease and "pain free"! Thank you so much. I have a lovely old wool sweater and I got it back from the dry cleaners with several holes in it! - Or, they just appeared after that - who knows. But I am so happy to learn this technique. I did not have a matching yarn but am very happy with the "patchy look" and the confidence it gave me.
I don't knot or sew but found this video extremely intriguing. You do fine work. Your title was 100% truthful.

This is the best technique I've found for repairing holes and I can highly recommend this video. I used it to repair a friend's sweater and if the darning yarn had been the exact colour, the repairs would have been invisible. Thanks so much.

Wow, this is a great demonstration because of how clear the video is. It is much more complex than I would have expected and I’m guessing a lot of people who don’t knit would be saying “never mind” right about now 😂 I was hoping it would close the hole without showing the thread I want to use much, since it’s not a perfect match, but if you do have matching yarn, this looks really great! The latch hook has me thinking about upgrading from a crochet hook just for normal oops fixing, too!
素晴らしい!すごく解りやすい!

@Sunny TV • This technique is absolutely brilliant. It explains why some purchased sweaters come with that extra bit of matching yarn. Matching yarn is also a good reason to save and label extra yarn on anything you make.

But you need that tool , what is that silver tool call? and where can you buy it at .
@@nys1759 • It's a latch hook but you can aalso use a small crochet hook.
@@yvonnetomenga5726 thanks ,where to buy it ?
For Crochet hook -it doesn't have that opening like a sewing needle for thread /yarn to go in through
@@nys1759 • A crochet hook will still pull the thread through just like it does when you crochet.
I love watching these repairs! It looks like there never was any kind of hole in that sweater. 😊

This is sewing with the complex nature of knitting. Such a talent
Jeepers! What incredible manual dexterity you have!
How I wish my mom had taught me how to sew. She was an excellent seamstress but a thoughtless mother. She never bothered to teach me how to cook but I turned out to be good at cooking. Still sewing is important, too. Darn, every time a sweater of mine gets hole I have to throw them out and buy new ones.
Hopefully, others will learn from your videos.

すご…
I think this is absolutely brilliant, but I would like to add one small comment for beginners: right at the very beginning, just before you insert the needle right to left, I'd recommend securing the yarn once or twice, underneath, to stop that loose yarn being dragged to the left when you begin hooking.
👌🏻❤! Gracias
